How late into pregnancy are pregnancy tests reliable?

I had a contraception failure in early Feb. Thought all was ok and have been having brief periods since. But I've suddenly got paranoid that I'm pregnant. Would a home pregnancy test give me a reliable result at this stage?

Upto 20 weeks I believe.

So a negative test should mean I'm def not pregnant and it's all in my imagination? Phew!

How many weeks do you think you could be? About 8-10? A negative is a negative then, but to be certain and to stop you freaking out, do another. If its negative, you're not pregnant!

About 12-14 I would estimate at. Period in jan was around the 20th.

Will do another test to be sure.

Sorry to say but with the "hook effect" it is possible for women to stop getting positive tests after 8 weeks, it is unusual for it to happen and this soon but it is possible.

The quickest and simplist way to solve this would be a quick trip to GP, who will feel your tummy and say if he can feel the uterus enlarged. At 12 to 14 weeks the uterus would be above the pelvic rim and clearly be able to be felt by doc.

Hope it turns out to all be in your imagination as you want it to be.!

Also meant to say that some women never get a positive test during pregnancy (my mum and my sister each had this happen on a pregnancy), so this is another reason to forget testing and go see a doc if you are concerned.

Did you take a morning after pill?
I would go to the doctor for a test to be sure. If the home pg tests don't always work, you can be sure a blood test at the docs will tell you the truth.
