ive been randomly weeing on these but NEVER had a positive. they are cheapo ones from ebay. last month had a few days with a faint line that coordinated with one day of egg whitey mucus, then rest of month no line at all, but faint on ov test is neg. Is it possible that im justing missing the surge? I dont test early afternoon as im out at work, have been testing mostly evening time, once a day.

I think it's quite easy to miss the LH surge, I've managed to detect it each month but have been using the tests 3 times a day! I do have an ok idea when i'm ovulating so only do that for approx 4 days but still is stressful! Some months I've got a positive for 2 days running others I only got a positive on one afternoon, the line strengh seems to vary too.

Last month I used the clear blue OPK which are clearer but expensive and not sure I want to spend that amount all the time.

Is it possible for you to test at work, I think 2 - 4pm is the ideal time?

I buy the cheap ones off ebay to, i did them every morning from day 6 of my cycle to get to know my own cycle (now just do them the week i know i'll be ovulating) the day before i get a 'positive' line i get a faint line, then dark the day after then next morning it's faint again it's also worth doing one a bit later in the evening when u have EWCM or signs of ovulation (i get pains & bloating) i do this every time and often get a faint line in the morning and a darker one in the evening also good to write results/signs on a calendar or diary that way u can get to know ur body and ur cycle as not many people have the norm of 28 days

I buy the cheap ones and have never had a "true" positive i.e the line as dark as control line, but I do get a dark line that I know is positive if that makes sense because it only happens one day a cycle and all the other days the line is really faint so Im taking that as my surge, because they are cheap Im testing twice a day to.

Hi, I needed reliable tests as I was using a sperm donor so had to get it right! I bought my tests from a website called Pride Angel, (www.prideangel.com) they sent them registered post and came quite quickly they were very reliable and showed a true positive so after two months of testing I had a good idea when my surge was due, which was good becauses I actually had the dates completley wrong. I found it best to test at the same time every day and I only tested once a day. Apparentley the homromes are strongest if you have not been the toilet for a few hours so I tested as I got up in the morning. Hope this helps, have a look at the website if you get chance. good luck Dawn xx

I had no joy with these but my bloods indicate I do ovulate. I reckon if you want to so opk you need to invest. I opted for temp monitoring and regular swi instead.

getawiggleon · 25/04/2011 10:36

I've peed on no fewer than 10 opks this cycle!! (Basically every time I went to the loo around ov time) and not had so much as a shadow of a line. I'm doing a monitoring cycle with a fertility clinic though and blood tests yesterday showed that LH was in fact surging so I've lost faith in the cheapie tests I'm afraid. I've used them every cycle for the past 8 months and have often had a faint line, building up to a v dark line but reckon I must've got a duff batch this time round.

I think they're rubbish. I purposley bought a huge stash of them with the intention of uing several a day so not to miss the LH surge. All I ever got was weither nothing at all or the faintes of faint lines! Good job they were so cheap! I've got a stash of their pg tests too, I wonder if they are really unreliable too Hmm

DreamingOfABump · 25/04/2011 21:20

thanks for the replies :) have bought a box of 20 clearblue digital ov tests, with the inention of just doing them for a couple of cycles til they run out to see if they pick up my surge. Im sure im ovulating as i have no reason to rationally think otherwise, but im crap at keeping my wee in for four hours before testing so maybe thats it!
i dunno why im really bothered as i plan to swi every other day from days 10-20 to cover it really, but theres something about ttc that makes you want to pee on sticks and monitor things like a loon
