Ok, not really conception as such but really don't know what's going on here...

I'm on anti-d's and the pill, not ttc but would be pleased if I had an accident. I've had a bit of a messed up time, used old (still in date) pills but a different brand because I wasn't organised enough to collect my prescription. Hadn't had a period for 2 months but tested and BFN, so the doctor got me in for a blood test.

I rang for the results just now, and the nice lady said that she and her colleagues don't know what the result means and I need to talk to the doctor who will ring me tomorrow. Surely it should be either positive or negative? What's going on? If anybody has a clue, please let me know!

Thank you, and sorry if this is the wrong place Sad

Hi I am no expert but I do know sometimes blood tests can be borderline rather than a clear yes or no. Some women have a certain amount of hcg in their blood even when they are not pg so it might be that they haven't found enough to be definitely sure but they have found some.

They might ask you to have another test to compare levels.

Hope you are ok and that you get the news you want tomorrow,

Xxxx

Thank you. It's the not knowing whether to expect the worst that scares me - what if they've found some godawful disease and don't want to be the one to tell me...

Do you know what they tested for? Was it just hcg?
I am sure that if it was something awful, they would have got you down to the gp's today.
Hope you are ok, can only imagine how stressful it is xxx

AFAIK it was just a pg test. POAS x 5 all negative but I hadn't had a "proper" period for 2 months (just gunk a couple of days before due) weight gain, water retention in my fingers and ankles. AF came saturday, the day after the test. I'm on Venlafaxine for anxiety and depression, just done a really fast wean to go onto Sertraline because it wasn't working. The wean has made me feel loads better so I'm sticking on the lower dose, but they don't know what effect it has on pg women so it's not recommended if you're ttc. It also means I don't really know what I'm really feeling atm Confused

I've been drinking and smoking and popping the pills, so fuck knows what I could have done to a baby if I'm pg Sad

Is your appt today? I hope you are not to stressed. If it was just an hcg test then I doubt they would have picked up on anything sinister, it could well be just a borderline result.
FWIW I was on venlafaxine a few hrs ago and it scuppered my cycles completely so hopefully you've just had the same thing.
Am sending a big Brew for you and do keep me posted on your appt xxx

Phone call before lunch, so a couple of hours. I'm off to give a mate a hand with her two girls with autism at a local park today so will have distraction!

Thank you so much for your support. I didn't know that about the Venlafaxine, and obviously nor did the doc; wish I'd known ten months ago when I started Wink I'll let her know about that one.

Good luck with the call, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed! Xxx

FFS, the doc rang to tell me it's a BFN. Why did that need 24 hours of worrying and 10 minutes of qualified GP's time? The doctor had already looked at the results, so quite why she couldn't just have left a note for the receptionist to tell me it was negative I really don't know!!!

Oh that is just ridiculous, putting you through all that! What a relief for you though! Hope you have a lovely stress free evening Smile
