Could this be a miscarriage?

Have posted this in general health too. Hope nobody minds but thought it might get spotted here. I'm still shaking!

I'm having my first period since having the contraceptive implant fitted 5 weeks ago. I have been bleeding for 7 days now. Just had a shower and passed a big 'thing'. It's not like a bloody clot, but like a big sack of skin with a hole in it. There doesn' seem to be anything in the sack. It's a pinky brown colour and I haven't got a clue what the hell it is. I know I wasn't pregnant when I had the implant fitted, and I tested again the week after the implant (negative).

Do I need to see a doctor?
What could it be?

I don't know but I didn't want you to go unanswered. I think you should see a doc as this clearly is out of the ordinary. PLease try not to worry. If you were pregnant then they will be able to tell and check you over. You poor thing, no wonder you're shaking.

Thanks for replying Ariesgirl.
My back has started aching now so I something isn't right. Just not sure what to do now. The doctors aren't open until Monday and it's not really an emergency situation. I'm not sure if this can wait or not.

Hi. What I passed during miscarriage was a circular jelly like clear sac. I have passed clots in the past that sound much more
Like what you describe. Almost fleshy.

WhatOnEarthIsIt · 16/04/2011 10:58

No it wasn't jelly like - just like thick skin. It's not at all what I would imagine a miscarraige to look like. It was just the fact it's a sac shape that made me wonder.

So it could just be a clot then. I'll just ignore it for now and see what happens.

Thank you hairyhighlights for sharing your experience.

Not sure where the 'high' bit came from Hairylights! Grin

I passed something like that years ago when I didn't know I was pregnant either. Am pretty sure it was a miscarriage. I had awful cramps before hand and, sorry for the tmi, a thick fleshy lump thing came out stuck on my tampon. I didnt see a doctor and just had a normal Ish period after that. Totally freaked me out though! Even though had I known I had been pregnant that would have been awful. Try not to worry to much as if it is a midcarriage it is done now, but like the others day do see your doctor.

hairylights · 16/04/2011 17:03

Really does sound like a clot to me.

flyingspaghettimonster · 16/04/2011 19:28

I had a lot of clot-like things (like mini bits of liver) after getting the Mirena coil fitted. Much heavier periods, lasting a week or more at a time, and big lumps as well as heavy bleeding and worse cramps.

orangehead · 16/04/2011 20:26

I have huge clots with af and they can be boomin scarey but normal. When I had my mc it was a big clot, mosty clot coloured but a bit of flesh (white) colour on it and also had like a vein on in it. When I showed it too them at the hospital the docotor pointed out the flesh colour and said that was tissue from the baby Sad. If it didnt have that then thnk it unlikely, however do you normally bleed for 7 days. If this is longer than what is normal for you or continues over next few days might be worth seeing the doc. Hope you ok

WhatOnEarthIsIt · 17/04/2011 09:01

Thank you for replying.
No it wasn't liver like - it was just like thick skin. Sorry, I know it's gross. And it did look like it had a vein through one side and a couple of tiny liver like clots on the inside.

My periods are normally much shorter and lighter but I assumed it was something to do with the implant. I've still got bad cramping and back ache so I think I'll see the doctor tomorrow (if I can get an appointment) just to be sure.

Sorry to jump in! Whatonearthisit - have you managed to get an appointment? What was the result?

At the beginning of this month my AF was just over a week late when something arrived. One day of what I would consider normal AF then heavy bleed overnight (if not TMI it included blood clot type things). Following day normal period then stopped which is a little bit shorter then normal.

I got BFN before and after this and am very confused by the whole thing. Assumed that it was an early MC but still feeling sick some of the time and have 'spots' on nipples which are a new thing!!

Any similar stories and/or advice gratefully received!

WhatOnEarthIsIt · 18/04/2011 15:10

No, couldn't get an appointment, and not sure I'm going to bother. I've been reading about it and it does seem to be something that can happen when you change contraception and it's likely it was just old womb lining coming out in one piece. I feel fine and the bleeding has stopped so even if it was anything else there probably isn't anything they could do.

Modernvicky, if you got a BFN before and after AF maybe it was just a heavy period. The other symptoms could be anything really - maybe just your body preparing for next time. Try not to dwell on it Smile (I know that's easy for me to say!)

You are absolutely right. I am sure that it was just my period. So, have worked out with last OV date should be set to give another go this weekend. Plus it is the bank holiday so we have four mornings in bed to look forward to!! Hope that you are feeling ok.

WhatOnEarthIsIt · 19/04/2011 11:22

Good luck for next month - and enjoy your bank holiday weekend Wink
