First Appointment -What Can I Expect?

Hi,

Received my letter this morning telling me my first gynae consultant appointment is next week. Guess Im a little anxious about this and am wondering what to expect?

For a wee bit of background which might (?) help anyone reply. Am 27 been ttc for 8 months. Had been on the contraceptive injection for 6 years (off it 18 months now) followed by the pill for 6 months (off it a year).

The only reason we are being seen this early as DH had a wee issue we were concerned about and the counts were done. They came back borderline ok, so they decided they may as well test me. So I've had the day 21 bloods done twice. Which both showed no ovulation.

Anyone know what I'm in for next?

My first appt was a bit of a let down to be honest. I didn't even get to see the consultant, I saw one of his registrars instead. It was very quick, mostly going through a list of tests and asking if we'd had any of them. When we said which we hadn't had done she said she'd arrange for those to be done and that we'd see the consultant once a load of new tests and investigations had been done so that we could discuss the results with the consultant and take his advice from there.

In my head I'd made the first appt a really big deal, but for us it really was very much an admin exercise IYSWIM.

Hi i also have my first appointment with gyno next week.

Also not sure what to expect, we have now been TTC for just over a year and doc has run all the regular tests with both of us! OH has had sperm analysis - all ok, i have had 21 bloods, LH, FSH etc all ok but 21 bloods also showed no ovulation - not overly suprised as i have been having irregular periods since coming off the pill!!

So now had apointment letter come through for gyno and feeling a little anxious now and in some ways a little annoyed after reading "GandTwithLime" post :( I really have got all my fingers and toes crossed that it will be a worthwhile visit :( My doc did mention that they may prescribe me Clomid....but im not sure what will happen!

x

smallflower Sorry my post has disappointed you Sad Its only how it was for me, I bet every hospital is different. FWIW it was all worthwhile because some of the investigations that the registrar arranged for us found the problem we had and I now have 2DD that I never thought I'd have.

Something I wish I had done was take along a list of questions I wanted to ask and would have forgotten and a notepad to write down anything important - I was so nervous about going that otherwise I think I would have forgotten half of what was said.

At my first appointment I was examined internally and externally, swabs were taken and urine sample and lots of questions were asked about my cycles then a course of action was decided for further tests. DH came with me as an extra pair of ears to listen to what was said.

GandTwithLime sorry i wasnt annoyed at you! Just the prospect of going into the unknown at my appointment next!!! Thank you for your words of encouragement they have helped - ill defo take some questions with me, agree about the nervousness, im nervous now and still got a week to go!!! :(

I have already had internal examinations (scans) and ultrasound, also bloods and urine. Doctor has asked me all the questions about my cycles since coming off the pill therefore not sure what additionally the gyno could want to test!!! I suppose i am just frustrated now and want answers rather than test after test that cannot give me any answers! :(

My OH is coming with me so at least if the note taking fails two sets of ears will be better than one :)

Once we were referred they didn't seem fussed about the results of tests done through my GP, they wanted new results for the consultant to look at so I ended up having lots of stuff repeated which was a bit of a pain fitting them around work. That being said though, I can't complain because they did figure out the problem and 'fix' me, though it was all very frustrating and the waiting for answers was pure agony.

my gyn also repeated tests gp had done and he asked me to start charting my temp

Well thought i would update on my visit to the gyno last week.......

Went a lot better than i had originally thought which made us both feel a lot better!

When we arrived i was weighed (gulp!) and my height measured, then called into my appointment. The gyno was a woman and she began by going through some general health and lifestyle questions for both myself and OH, she then asked me what tests i had had done at the doctors - explained i had blood tests, and also an internal ultrasound scan. She had my results and just went through what the results meant again for my peace of mind really.

She then said that she would prescribe me clomid and that i was to start taking this on CD2-6 and would then have to have another internal ultrasound on CD8 to confirm if i have ovulated or not!
She was very clear and made us feel really comfortable and answered our questions in simple terms! So we were able to understand everything that was being told :)

So currently on CD 3 day 2 on clomind so fingers crossed!!!

Hopefully this will help sort out our ttc problems, but never know so just going to take one day at a time and see what happens :)
