What exactly will the day 21 blood test show?

I'm due to have this on Tuesday and am a little confused about what this is actually going to determine??

Thank you so much!

It shows the level of progesterone which indicates whether you ovulated that month. I scored 21 which is apparently 'marginal' :(

It nay be that you had one anovulatory cycle, which is perfectly normal, loz. have you had a repeat test?

Udderly · 09/04/2011 22:24

Loz was it day 21 or ovulation plus 7 that you had your levels checked? 21 days assumes a 28 day cycle ovulating on day 14 which isn't the reality for most women. Will you have the bloods taken again this month? Low progesterone is easy to fix.

I am not sure but my gyn told me it can be done from days 21 - 26 and if day 21 was on a weekend then it needed to be done later than day 21 and not earlier

Joycep · 10/04/2011 22:30

I have got this tomorrow and Spirita was also confused. My GP told me 7 days before period which for me is 3dpo and she worked it out for me as day 19. I asked this on here last week and was told 7dpo rather than before your period. I am now going against my GP and doing it 7dpo. Bloody confusing!

Mine will actually be done 6 days before my period is due (28 day cycle) This is because my surgery don't do bloods over the weekend or on Mondays!!! Confused

Udderly - hairylights - this was my last (6th) cycle of Clomid. Had two follicles showing at scan but I don't think I've ovulated. Couldn't pick anything up with OP kit either. This was my only scan and blood test on Clomid. My experience with fertility clinic has been quite depressing - more mis-communication/maladministration than malice. I was given prescription for Clomid to be taken after HSG but with no instruction to be scanned. By the time I had a further clinic appointment I was due to take round 6 and they acted amazed that I'd even been given a prescription 6 months ago. For round 6 I went in for a scan where no one explained a thing to me about what it all meant. I had some questions to ask but was quite literally being steered to the door. A blood test was only offered when I stood there like a lemon saying 'ok so what happens next?' as I was on my last cycle of Clomid and had no furhter appointments booked. I also asked if funding for IVF had been requested from my PCT as per previous appointment with my partner. They were very vague about this saying that funding is likely to be withdrawn and that by the time I move up the waiting list I'll be excluded anyway as, although I meet the criteria now, by then I'll be too old. I'm not sure how I got to work, through the day and home again to be honest and frankly could cry again now - the blood test is the thin end of the wedge.

Heather - the weekend closure is annoying but understandable but Monday too? Around my way I can get a blood test at the major hospital where I've been to the fertility clinic (miles away from me), my GP (which has several surgeries interlinked across town) or my cottage hospital where you can turn up and take a ticket (no booking required). Could you maybe get it done somewhere other than your surgery if you need a Monday?
