Periods after microgynon?

Hi everyone, I've been lurking here for a few months, but this is my first post.

I came off Microgynon after 7 years a few months ago. I had my 'fake' bleed as normal after finishing the last packet. When my first normal period came about 4 weeks later, I was thrilled as I thought my body must be back to normal and hence started TTC that month.

Cycle 1 now finished and I was expecting my period to come on Tuesday, based on the last cycle. However, I started getting a bit of dark brown (sorry TMI) on Sunday just passed and I thought it would get heavier. It hasn't and is just starting and stopping. I guess strictly speaking it is my period but it's just so light! Did I ovulate last month? I have no idea what's going on with my body!

I haven't been using any ovulation testing kits but I guess that's the next step.

Anyone else able to share their experiences of how long it took their cycles to get back to normal? Thanks!

hi bellakins. i decided to come off my pill (not microgynon though) last month and i did a bit of reading on the net and various forums of what to expect etc. And it's just all one big question mark and varies from person to person. One person would say theyir cycles got back to normal strait away, some 3 months, some even 6. Never simple is it?!

Thanks melliebobs. I was hoping I'd be one of the lucky ones and everything would get back to normal really quickly but it looks like it might not be that way! Before I went on the pill my periods were quite heavy and very regular, it's almost funny to be wishing for a heavy period again! Hope everything goes well for you.

hi :D i stopped microgynon at end of the pack in january, had fake bleed at end of pack, normal one (5 days) 4 weeks later, then 4 weeks later just a short three day one, now am due on but day before yesterday had exactly what you described, old brown light loss and then it went away.
i guess it takes a while to make its mind up!
i think its def possible to get pregnant in the mean time tho, so id just crack on as before and see how it goes x

Hi, I came off microgynon at the end of July. A friend came off it and was pregnant before her first normal period so I foolishly thought it would be easy like that for us.
Anyway, I got my first normal period 4 weeks later, but the following one was super light, really just light pink spotting for a couple of days so I obviously thought I was pregnant. My subsequent periods have been heavier but still lighter and shorter (max. 3 days) than pre-pill. My cycles have been quite erratic, between 28 and 35 days, and I get a different 'symptom' every month. Other than a few cramps and migraines, I didn't get PMS pre or whilst on the pill, but now I get nausea, sore boobs with crazy big veins that freaked me out, heartburn plus a number of other things in a variety of combinations every darned month for about 10 days, so every month I thought this was our month. Ha!
I've started charting my temps this month but even they seem weird (stomping feet/big paddy smiley).
I've read that it can take a year for things to get back to normal, some people are fine straight away. Like melliebobs said, it seems to vary from person to person, and even seems to vary if you've been on/off the pill several times.
Fingers crossed for you and I hope everything is back to normal for you soon x

Thank you for your responses. It does help to know about other people's experiences. I swore to myself that I wouldn't start obsessing about cycles and dates but you do get sucked in quite quickly! It doesn't help I'm so impatient....oh well .... good luck everyone!
