Smear test while ttc???

I've had a right smear test nightmare over the last few months but to cut a long story short I've had to have 3 smear tests (the third done by a doctor rather than the nurse) because of inadequate results. I'm convinced I got a letter saying all was clear after the third but can't find it and am being told to go again because of an inadequate result. I'm right in the middle of ttc and am about to ov. I really want to sort the smear thing out as I had the same problem 3 years ago with my previous test (again took 3 attempts but came back fine in the end) so I'm always a bit worried, but following a m/c in May I don't want to jepodise (sp?) any chance of concieving this month. Is it safe to have a smear while ttc or in early pg? Should I be worried about not being able to get clear results. I'm not in a high risk group and I'm only 29. Sorry for the long waffle, didn't cut the long story short really

I had a smear test just as I started TTC, and I was advised by the nurse to put TTC-ing on hold until I had the "all clear". This was because if anything abnormal was found in the smear, they wouldn't be able to treat it if I was pregnant. So you'd run the risk of the pre-cancerous cells continuing to develop for another 9 months before they could be treated.

Personally I put my TTC activities on hold and waited until my result came back. Thankfully I got an "all clear", and have resumed my TTC activities

I don't know whether having the smear itself can jeopardise (sp?) things, as I hadn't started TTC when I had my smear. Best thing would be to check with your doctor.

Hugs,
Artoo.

I would wait until you had the results. I had a smear just after I conceived ds2, but before I knew I had conceived IYSWIM. The nurse found an abnormal growth (in her words) and we were scared to death for weeks, worrying about baby / me / whole dilemma we hadn't really been given.

Smear was clear though, so all OK.

I asked the nurse about this last time I went. I put of going for a few weeks coz I was ov'ing and then waiting to test.

The nurse told me it makes no difference if you are ov'ing or in the very early stages of pregnancy. During ovulation having it done would not stop you from conceiving and if you were only just pregnant it wouldn't cause a m/c either.

Strike- hunny was worried about you. Wondered where you'd got to. I had mine done 2 weeks ago, awaiting results which will probably be abnormal. I've never had "unclear" one's just abnormal ones and had to have subsequent colpolscopys and laser surgery.
