Anyone ever had fertility treatment in Spain, specifically Madrid? I realise this probably isn't the best place to ask but there doesn't seem to be a Madresnet on the Internet...

Hello, I am a Scottish person who's been living in Madrid for a few years and isn't in a position to leave right now, been trying to get preggers for 2 years and can't and been seeing the doctors about it since August 2010.

I can speak Spanish fine but I tend to get quite nervous in medical situations (I know, not the doctors' fault, I should bloody sort it out) and am having trouble getting the doctors to listen and explain things to me. They just keep saying everything is normal and don't seem to be testing me for things people on MN reckon they should be (for example, I told them that my luteal phase is only 7 days and asked if they could test my progesterone levels but they just kept saying it was normal and that I didn't need to get tested).

Every time anything gets done we have to wait another three or four months for the next appointment and I feel like my reproductive years are flying by in the meantime.

My man is the same as me: not Spanish, can speak the language fine but not familiar with all the medical terminology so therefore quickly dismissed as being a useless foreigner, and every time we go to the specialist I get the distinct impression that we're being filed under "get these ignoramuses who want everything explained all the time out of my consulting room as soon as possible."

I just wondered if anyone had been through anything similar and had any advice.

Thanks x

Hi dzudzi, so sorry to hear about all the problems you're having. It must be very frustrating to not be listened to Sad Have you tried googling the hospitals near you to find out if any of them specialise in fertility? I'm in Belgium, and didn't get anywhere until I managed to find a university hospital that does specialise in fertility. We have now just started treatment as a result.

Also, have you tried posting this question in the Living Overseas topic? You might have more luck there...

Hope someone comes along who can help you soon, and lots of luck.

Hello, thank you! I'm new to this and didn't realise there was a living overseas bit. I'll try that, and looking into hospitals.

you could try fertilityfriends.co.uk there are threads there around ivf in spain and you should be able to find out all the info you need about treatment etc, or at least various clinics that might be able to do initial investigations etc. Wishing you lots of luck ....
