I'm worried sick at the moment.

I've been using the mirena since December 2000 and had it changed most recently in December 2008. For the past 2weeks I've been having constant nausea, sore breasts, bloating, metallic taste, gone off tea (which is a big thing for me) and tiredness. I did a test this morning which came up positive.

It's very faint but definitely there, as is the mirena.

I went to the docs straight away and spoke to the gp. She immediately started talking as if I was a bit silly when I described all my symptoms saying 'i suppose you think you're pregnant' I then told her I'd got a bfp this morning. She told me she'd never heard of it happening before and if I was pregnant it would be ectopic anyway then sent me for a blood test.

I wasn't trying to get pg but I dont want it to go anywhere now. She just seemed very negative and dismissive, should I be worried?

No contraception is 100% effective.

It's v rare to get a false BFP. What did the gp suggest next?

Can you go for an early scan?

Anyone?

X post, she didn't suggest anything next. To be fair she was the only one I could get in with at the surgery and I had a bad experience with her at Christmas. She told me my daughter was fine and just had flu the next day she went into intensive care

Hmm not great then.

I would definately recommend phoning your local early pregnancy unit for advice. Perhaps there's a family planning clinic in your area you can access?

I think you should re-test (or be retested at a clinic/gp/epu) and if it's definately positive get yourself checked out asap.

You could try nhs direct - 0845 4647 and speak to a nurse there.

I've just had a quick google and it seems there are quite a few 'pregnant with the coil' stories.

xx

Just got the result from the blood test saying my hcg level is normal. The receptionist couldn't explain the results and I'm waiting for the doctor to call me now.

Any news? Hope you're ok x

Tiredtrout · 29/03/2011 17:58

Today's news is that my blood test came back with an hcg of 0. One of the doctors from the surgery phoned and told me that then I described everything that had been going on, she decided to refer me for thyroid tests.

Then she called me back 5 minutes later saying that she'd looked at my notes again and noticed that I'm using a mirena so have no periods and that yesterdays doc hadn't checked me physically.

Apparently if you are past 3-4months you have no hcg in your system so she has asked me to come in for a scan and checks in the morning!

I've just got back from the surgery. The scan showed no baby so I've been referred for tests. I'm very sad and scared about what else it could be

I really hope it's nothing TT

I've never heard that hcg can be at 0 during a pregnancy before. I think tou should be reassured that the scan was clear. If it was an ectopic your hcg would be in the hundreds (if not thousands).

Was it an internal scan?

Have they checked your coil is still in place? Are you in any pain?

I really hope you get some definate answers soon. xx

Tiredtrout · 31/03/2011 06:14

It was an external scan, the gp who did it has sent me off for lots of blood tests but I still have all the usual symptoms for pregnancywhich really sucks. I could handle constant nausea if there was a baby at the end of it
