Your partner needs to absatin for 3 days!

He then has to get the sample into the lab withing 2 hrs, the quicker the better

He also has to keep in warm in his trouser pocket (body temp)

good luck!

I would check with the people whom you collected the pot from and explain there were not instructions re where to take it to. This should have been explained to you at the time together with how to transport the sample!.

You may find he should also not have to abstain for three days prior to doing his sample either.

Just rang the gp surgery, she told me that it should be bought to the surgery by 10.30am! I said i thought there were guidelines to the life of the semen, and she just told me the above!
Now told me has to be at the lab within 2 hrs. Asked what lab to take it to, and she said it just says hospital lab!! Hmmnn useless woman!!!!

Sigh. Useless woman indeed!!. Sounds therefore like it will be couriered over.

This is the problem when GPs insist on doing semen samples and other tests before referral to the gynae - its actually best left to the hospital's subfertility dept to arrange all this as they more often than not know what they're doing (if its a good unit).

If your husband can go to the hospital in question and do the sample there so much the better. It can then be taken straight to the lab for testing.

TBH you may well find that such tests on both of you will be done again by the hospital once you are referred to them. One semen analysis alone is not conclusive of there being no problems.

There is usually one hospital lab on site which does this. If you know which hospital you will be referred to subsequently I'd phone their subfertility unit beforehand and ask them about this analysis.

Why they cant just refer you to the fertility clinics and do these tests is beyond me...why'd do they make you go through the tests again!!

My dh did it last week. He had to take it to the andrology dept. They had specific instruction as in get it there under an hour and not to have sex for 2-3 days. it said keep it room or body temp during transportation.

goldilocks
you will find that your husband has to abstain for 3 days.

The lab may differ form hospital to hospital so it is a good idea to ring to ask, although it usually is pathology.

bloody confusing or what!
you should have had instructions
Thick GPS!
