You would think that by now (am ttc #3) I would know if a pregnancy test is positive but I'm confused so consulting the mumsnet oracle Grin

Have 29-31 day cycles and today is day 29. Had lower abdo discomfort but not normal doubled-over pains to tested first pee this morning with a pound shop 2-for-£1 cheapie test. Got v faint line but a line all the same. Then tested with superdrug own just now and nothing.

I can't remember when I tested with my boys but do you think I'm pregnant? It's been a long 15 cycles and just referred to gyn for investigations (bloods ok & DHs sample ok)

Long wait til tomorrow first pee so for 1st time on MN need some hand-holding

Hello how long did you wait between tests? I think you're meant to store up your pee for 3 or 4 hours to allow enough HCG to build up to register even on a sensitive HPT.

I have to say though, a faint line is still a line! Grin

I've heard the superdrug ones aren't that good, I would pop out and get another test maybe fr or clearblue digital good luck :)

Purplebuns · 23/03/2011 10:13

Those poundland tests are v. sensitive. 25 miu when superdrug are probably 50miu. In other words I think your pregnant! Congratulations!

kirrinIsland · 23/03/2011 10:25

I got a positive at 4 in the afternoon with a first response and then a negative with a clear blue digital the following morning - cue tears of disappointment after getting excited. Tested again later on - positive (as were the 5 subsequent tests - paranoid? Moi? Grin. Not sure what happened with the negative but you're apparently more likely to get a false negative than a false positive. I'd say congratulations were in order :)

Thankyou for your positive mental attitudes! Just retested with the other £1 shop test. Still v faint line but in the same place as 1st test so I don't think it's an evaporation line.

Will get dh to pick up an expensive test in boots on his way home and restrain myself til tomorrow morning

Sounds so promising! Good luck Grin

KirrinIsland - DH just bought home CB digital and it says not pregnant :(

This is killing me- with DS1 I was on a course for work and had to make sure I wasn't pregnant cos of the chemotherapy - yep of course it was positive & I was 8 wks gone. With DS2 my periods hadn't restarted and I was 12 wks when I found out.

No more tests tonight & will leave off CB til friday

I think first response are better than clear blue, from what I have heard. Try again with your first morning urine, you have had two positives, one negative and your not even late, so I wouldn't be sad yet :)

rosieposey · 23/03/2011 21:19

I used to use the Internet Cheapies (and ive been trying for over a year) but got so many false positives or evaps that i have stopped using them completely. The superdrug ones are meant to be 10 MIU so really really sensitive - i would wait a couple of days like you said and try again on Friday, the CB digi's arent nearly so sensitive as Superdrug so im not surprised you didnt get a postive.

Will keep everything crossed for you on Friday :)

rosieposey · 23/03/2011 21:21

Sorry i meant to say that the £1 shop are the sames ones as internet cheapies (ive used those as well) Like the poster above said though its very good that you've got two positives though - just be aware that those strip tests can be misleading sometimes. Good luck!

kirrinIsland · 23/03/2011 21:35

My false negative put me off Clear Blue - maybe try again with a First Response, and perhaps an extra day or two will make a difference - might still be a bit early?? Got my fingers crossed for you :)

fledtoscotland · 24/03/2011 06:52

Think they must have been evap lines :( retested just now and negative with Internet cheapie & superdrug. Not wasting CB at that price But I used cheapie tests with both DS's and never got evap lines

Really devestated as we've been trying for so long & my nxt step is surgical investigations as I've got bowel adhesions. I dared let myself hope I was pregnant yesterday and now i just want to pull a duvet over my head and hide from the world.

Sad
rosieposey · 24/03/2011 07:49

Oh rubbish :( There were photos on my profile of some very convincing evaps from those tests (not anymore though) proper dark lines and everything, i wouldnt touch IC's but they do seem to work for plenty of women - just for fun i even tested when AF was here and got a line - i then started shitting myself that there was something really wrong with me, i really dont like them at all as i get repeated lines with them and arent pg.

So sorry you had that result, its happened to me and weve been trying for ages it seems, its just so very disappointing. You never know, AF isnt here so you might get a surprise tomorrow I hope so xx
