mousebacon · 20/04/2011 20:53

Just wanted to send you a big squeeze bbb

FWIW I totally agree with you about god/crack addicts/13 yr olds etc...

nickstermum · 20/04/2011 21:42

Aw BBB (((hugs))) lovely x Your ranty post is withdrawn so i didnt see it. I have everything crossed that its nothing sinister and is just burrowing deeply xxxxx

tiggersreturn · 20/04/2011 21:44

bbb am so sorry to see your news (have been offline for a while). I really really hoped this would be it. I hope Shehata has the answers.

AandRMum · 21/04/2011 07:28

Oh BBB that just sucks and is completely unfair and if your rant was aimed at the inefficient, inhumane, churn machine that is the NHS and I have a horrible feeling the medical profession in most countries at the moment then I am right there with you. Hoping against hope that this one finds a way to cling on or that at least you get some answers from Dr S

I x-posted with Izzy yesterday. So glad you saw the heartbeat and have found a doctor who will look after you.

I went to the gynae who is supposed to be an mc specialist. She was much more interested in berating the fourth year, very embarrassed male med student than in me or my body. She completely dismissed the thyroid link with mcs and wouldn't even discuss any preventative measures until she has put me through all the standard mc tests (not interested in testing my progesterone level), which won't come back for over 7 weeks. Am heading off to a naturopath to see if they can do any better.

Velvetcu · 21/04/2011 08:42

bbb I hope everything is ok with you today

MummyAbroad · 21/04/2011 13:34

Sorry that you had such a crap gyne doc experienceSad. 7 weeks? Do you know exactly what they ARE testing for? Maybe if it takes that long there is some blood clotting stuff thrown in?

I HATE it when "specialists" dismiss conditions as if you just made them up. It has happened to me lots. Most recently I asked my local doc for monitoring of my cervix in the second trimester to check for IC and showed him a letter from my AS doc in London recommending it. He said that Incompetant Cervix was a "myth" !!! I was too Shock to respond properly (and eager for a scan) so I didnt say anything but now when ever I think about it I quietly seethe.

Hope the naturopath helps. xx

freelancegirl · 21/04/2011 16:49

Hello all. I've been lurking but not posting. Keeping fingers crossed for BBB. Great news Izzy on the scan.

AandR how bloody annoying! I must say as a thyroid patient I am used to people not taking me seriously and not having the full facts at hand. By your experience too MA it is so frustrating when people dismiss you or whatever information you have found. If it wasn't in their training then they don't believe it, let alone that research is advancing all the time and medicine is organic in the way it evolves. So frustrating when you keenly wait for an appointment only to be let down.

My GP was said to have sent my referral to Dr S on 5th April and I called up again today and his secretary still hadn't received it! So I got my surgery to fax it over and she has now got it. Because he is on compassionate leave and has to go over it himself, then refer it to the appointment secretaries and then it is a 2 month wait for an appointment, the docs not sending it when it should (or it going missing in the post) has really delayed things. Oh well, I guess I have to wait at least 3 months before ttc. Best enjoy it then!

I know BBB you are thinking of going to see Dr S privately and Digi I think already has. I wonder if you can pay to see him privately first and then wait until the NHS kicks in later. It might not work like that. Or I could just wait and enjoy the stress-free life before I get involved with ttc, steroids, worrying about potential mcs etc etc. Clock ticking - 37 in the summer. Won't make much of a difference I guess.

AandRMum · 21/04/2011 17:47

mummyA I was warned in my early 20's I'd need to be checked for an incompetent cervix - it just makes you worry when the specialists seem to know less than you!!! I know what you mean about not saying anything at the time. I sat there stupidly meek and then seethed afterwards at myself more than anything!!

batteryhen · 21/04/2011 20:19

Just quick pop in to see how everyone is doing and big special look out for BBB.

I am due AF on saturday but am going to test tomorrow as I am off out tomorrow night for wine (or hopefully not :))

I have had some symptoms including very sick and sore boobs, but that could also be AF !!

Have a good night all xxxx

mousebacon · 21/04/2011 20:43

Thinking of you BBB

for you battery I'll be lurking in the morning...

No news of AF here. I'm thinking of starting my own Bellamy-esque 'AF Watch' ...

Or big brother style...Day 37 and mousey still hasn't got her period...

digitalgirl · 21/04/2011 21:20

AandR sorry your gynae was so dismissive. I'd have all the mc testing done by her as it's cheaper and quicker (now you're in the system) if she requests them. I'd also insist on getting a full thrombophilia screening done as this is essentially what st mary's does. I'm not sure if you're near London but I had mine done at UCH and I know others have had this done at the Royal Free.

I'm not sure what a naturopath is, but I would also try and get referred to Dr S (or Prof Quenby if you're more midlands way) as he will definitely look at your thyroid issues. He asked me for my tsh level in my appt and even though it was normal he tested me for thyroid antibodies.

I sympathise with the disappointment at knowing more than the doctors. I haven't been to my gp since my second mc which was April last year. As lovely as he is, I knew he wouldn't be able to help me. I was able to self refer to the epu for each pregnancy and after the third I demanded to see a consultant. After the last miscarriage I brought in my Dr Beer book for my eprc follow up appt with her and she'd never heard of it. I had to ask her for a tsh blood test as she'd not even considered it till I mentioned it. Very lovely, very sympathetic consultant, but ultimately limited by her knowledge of immunological causes of rmc and the nhs' current stance on immunotherapy. Her saving grace is that she was supportive of me going to see Dr S and will still support me in my next pregnancy with as many early scans as I want. I think she's curious to see if steroid therapy will work. And she also understands my need for answers.

In other news I think I've ovulated despite my unripe follicles detected on Monday. Had loads of ewcm on Monday, tell tale ov bloating yesterday, positive opk yesterday and now a massive temp rise this morning. So have learnt that follicular tracking will be a waste of time and money (in my circumstances) and I'll be better off sticking to the traditional methods of rummaging for cervix position, analysing cm and plotting my temps.

Have added myself to the common room list in anticipation of the next cycle.

Also apologies if I'm rudely cross posting, I started this post on my phone at 6:30 on the tube and am only finishing it now.

AandRMum · 21/04/2011 22:48

Digi glad you've ov'd Your follicles must have had a surge. Thanks for the tips. I have to say this is the only place where I feel like I get decent information. I really think the NHS should be supporting and utilising forums like this. I am in London. I think I will have a chat with my GP about Dr S. I would have to say my GP is similar in being lovely but has no knowledge of this area.

Just noticed I x posted with Freelance earlier. How bloody annoying for poor paperwork to delay you so much. At least with this lovely weather you can enjoy it with a good glass of something As I keep saying to dh 'pissed or pregnant!'. I know what you mean about ticking clock I am the same age - my thyroid surgeon just looked at me oddly when I was stressing over how long I would need to wait to have the surgery. He considered a number of months makes no real difference (probably completely correctly) but to me it makes a huge difference.

digitalgirl · 21/04/2011 23:32

Oh yes I forgot to reply to freelance. If it's any consolation Dr S was away for the first half of April too, so wouldn't have got to look at your referral anyway. I'm not sure about the private/nhs thing. You might want to email his private clinic and ask how that works.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 22/04/2011 07:39

getawiggleon · 22/04/2011 09:23

Just catching up quickly and reading back over last couple of days and hoping for some good news from BBB and Battery. Also v frustrated as I have a prescription for Cyclogest pinned on my fridge which was given by the clinic (same one as Pink) when I got BFP last month 'waiting instruction' which obviously I haven't needed. BBB I'm thinking of you and really hoping for the best.

Battery Your chart looks v promising this month. I seem to remember you mentined creamy cm around 6dpo too - I had that last month with bfp. FX!

LadyBee Welcome back. How are you feeling? I expect you're busy this month with the big move.

AandR I totally empathise with not v special 'specialists'and GPs etc! Fortunately my GP admitted she knew little about thyroid and fertility but seemed v open to learning about new research/ tests etc (she's recently qualified). Thank goodness for the internet where it's possible to educate and inform ourselves in the hope that we can gain enough info to bombard them with try and get the answers that we need. I think Mummy's case is a great example of this.

Quick update from this end -I saw endocrinologist last week and was a bit disappointed. I'm a 'classic case of Hashimoto's' apparently. I came away more confused than when I went in and without a real plan of action with regards to thyroid and ttc Confused Wish in a way I'd held out for the other consultant to come back from holiday! I wonder if BUPA would let me switch?? I think my clinic will happily prescribe prednisolone for thyroid antibodies and NKs though from speaking to them.

I also asked clinic for a little 'assistance' this month and they prescribed 100mg of Clomid. Had CD11 scan yesterday and I have 2 follicles at 13mm, 2 at 12mm and a little one at 9mm! Uterine lining was 6mm (looks around for Mummy as I'm not sure that this is great but am hoping it'll get a bit thicker before ov??) The doc asked my age (38) and said that normally they'd only expect to see 2-3 follicles at this stage. I have to use opks over the weekend and call when I get a surge so they can rescan and do blood tests etc. We can then decide if we'll try an iui or not too. If too many follicles mature though then they'll probably advise using protection this month as there's a risk of multiples. Hopefully just 2-3 will mature to give swimmers a few more targets!!

Will sign off now as DH is asking what on earth I'm doing on here at this time in the morning! Will lurk for news from Battery and BBB on phone though!!

getawiggleon · 22/04/2011 09:25

Gah! Knew I'd x posts!! Fab news battery I knew it!! All those air miles have finally paid off! So happy for you Grin
