Hi All - quick update. Surgeon wants to chop out cyst and half my thyroid, supposedly it is safer to take it out than risk having to go back in at a later date. From all accounts we can live without a thyroid and reproduce quite happily?! I am having a huge number of blood tests Inc Vit D, thyroid functions (will have to check if this includes TSH and antibodies), bone density, progesterone, PTH (I think Pre-op thyroid?). I am also having to keep a diary of a pain I have under my arm and may need a scan - hopefully after all of these I will feel a bit more in control of all of this! Good news zam on the results. Thanks freelance for all the links. When I am feeling strong enough I will have a good trawl through and see if there are any other tests I need to add to the list!

I can't remember who asked but you can control your body eating your thyroid with drugs - a friend has Hashimotos and has been told she will be under dual care when she gets pg again to measure thyroid function but should not prevent her from having another dc.

battery I was a vitamin e girl too, worked wonders for my skin. Unfortunately I've binned it due to its reasonably well published links with cancer. I'll try and dig out a link if you want.

izz I know, it's a nightmare, but somebody's got to pub hunt. I am still not temping. Now I know i'm really ovulating, I don't know if I'll ever go back to it. It's just so consuming isn't it? Yey for the lack of symptoms. I'm sure they'll kick in soon. Or maybe you'll bypass ms and go straight for the full on incurable heartburn? My favourite pg symptom.

Have spent a lovely day in the sun at the park, and ds has fallen asleep on the sofa after we got back. At work tomorrow(boo).
My SIL has just gone into labour (we had a mc at the same time last year). She's been in slow labour for 3 days, but was 5 cm this morning when she went in to hospital. That's the last news I've heard. Looking forward to getting my sneaky newborn fix very soon. Which will be bittersweet, but lovely. I must try my hardest not to weep when I meet him/her

babe wow thats really interesting about vitamin E. It was the only vit I took that was doctor prescribed. I took 1000mg for 6 weeks after my operation to help promote tissue growth and reduce scarring. I stopped after the 6 weeks when we started TTC though.

High dosages for extended periods, I think. Low dose ok. I'll find some links later. I've only swapped it for EPO.

aandr that sounds like progress, are you ok about the op? Did the surgeon mention whether it would have an effect on ttc/mc?

AandR yes you can function without a thyroid as they will give you thyroxine. It was probably me who asked about thyroid antibodies. Would love to know what drugs your friend has been given. I think there are a few things that can help but have been reading up on it and it seems that raised antibodies can mean you are 50% more likely to have a mc, which is rather worrying (I have Hashi's too).

Am also reading lots about the wonders of Vit D - definitely one to make use of. All this sunshine is lovely too.

What amazing weather! Vit D should certainly not come up deficient!!

Freelance I will ask her what she is on. I am having a complete wibble about the surgery now. A friend, who is very into naturopathy was very distressed at the idea of me having it out - I will do all the blood tests, see her lady, speak with the specialist and then try and make up my mind. It is all very worrying freelance but at some point hopefully we will be on the right side of the statistics!! You mentioned St Mary's - is that the one in Middlesex? Is there a particular doctor you would recommend there?

My SIL has just announced she is pregnant (only 6 weeks and she is 40 years old) - sad thing is all I can think about are the stats and how risky it is for her to announce it so early ...

Hi all, hope everyone's had a lovely weekend in the sun, topping up on the vit D! We've been down to Sussex for a pub lunch and then taken DD to a farm. Can't believe how hot it's been, we're all glowing slightly this eve and I've managed to acquire a nice farmer's tan (ie from the elbow down!)

I'm starting to get a bit depressed about the ata now though, 50% more likely to miscarry?! . My levels aren't even slightly raised, they're off the scale! I have an appt with Dr Vanderpump on Fri aft (Dr Prelevic is away for two weeks and I didn't want to postpone, plus her name doesn't quite roll off the tongue in quite the same way!)

Looks like this week/month will be full of appts now. I'm going to get the clinic to do a monitoring cycle starting this week so I'll be able to see wtf thyroid is doing (if there is anything left of it) and also if gagging on taking those vile wheatgrass shots every morning has done anything to improve FSH levels. Strangely excited about it all (esp mid cycle scan etc), it will be interesting to see what the ovaries actually get up to Planning a holiday for May so won't go ahead with any treatment then but then I think we'll make decisions on whether we want any 'assistance' to try and speed up the ttc process. I'm totally ambivalent about this at the moment though as I don't want to spend loads of ££ getting pg if the real issue is hanging on to it. Decisions, decisions?.

AandR St Mary's is in Paddington afaik. I know what you mean about being a statistic. I already feel like the 1 in 4 that has a mc and every time I read something new I think "oh, so I'm the 1 out of 50 that has such and such etc'

Hi Wiggle and AandR. Yes there is something kind of pleasing about the sound of old doc Vanderpump Wiggle. I think Dr Prevelic was really surprised when I marched in there saying I had read about her in an article and really wanted to see her. Can't wait until you have had your appt. Do let us know what happened. Again my obsessive research this week leads me to believe for high thyroid antibodies they should put is on prednisolone and maybe other things. Yes we DO seem to have a 50% more chance of mc unfortunately but hopefully with treatment that can be addressed. I am terrified now of what to do - I was hoping to ttc again as soon as I get af but now I am worried it will just happen again. But I am 37 soon and I don't want to waste time.

I haven't yet seen anyone for further tests yet AandR but have asked for referrals for St Mary's in London and Dr Shehata at Epsom (see the Miscarriage Clinic link above).

This is a good article referencing a study too, the first part is ivf based but towards the end if has references to recurrent mcs and dosages that significantly improved outcome. Basically, it looks like we need to find someone who will prescribe us this:

freelance Those articles are fab, thank you so much for sharing those , I'm feeling more positive already and feel like I can at least approach the docs armed with some questions etc now.

I'm with ARGC in London and they're v hot on the whole immunes thing. They mentioned humira/intralipids for borderline cytokines and I think they mentioned prednisone for slightly elevated NKs but they didn't really say much about ata other than that they would treat for thyroid when I started stims. (they assumed I would be having some form of stims which annoyed me at first but then they are a fertility clinic, so of course that is what they offer, what was I expecting?!) I'll grill them this week when I go in for day 3 tests and also get Dr V's opinion on Fri! It'll be interesting to see how they compare.

Struggling to write in coherent sentences now so will hit the sack and check in again tomorrow! Thanks again for all the info. My sil is a paedeatrician but she did a stint in obs and gynae and has been teasing me today saying I know more about the female reproductive system than she does!

I've also booked a private appointment with Mr Shehata but am now thinking I might just ask for a referral from my GP. Currently pondering that one. The private costs are expensive to say the least.

wiggle not tested and still not planning on it. Between 2-5 days until she's due and all signs are pointing towards her arriving. Still been feeling pukey, shattered, soreish boobs, sore lower back, peeing lots but this has all happened before which is why I remain pessimistic! I think my body reacts to the change in hormones before AF.

Wiggle and Broken glad you are getting treated. I think what I would like to know - and this might help others too - is:

If we started to ttc and got pg without being treated for high thyroid antibodies and then got treatment a few weeks into the pg, would this potentially damage the baby?

See I don't know whether to try as soon as I get my first af after mc (wish it would bloody hurry up!) at the risk of this might a) result in another mc whilst I wait for referral or b) I manage to hold onto the baby whilst I wait for referral BUT those nasty little antibodies are already digging in there and damaging the development in some awful way.

great news YRMOTB - phew what a relief .

Thanks all for your kind wishes. Wasn't massively surprised to see CD1, it's becoming a bit of an expectation tbh. Having got pg very easily four fucking times it seems number 5 is proving a bit elusive. Which usually wouldn't be the end of the world but at 43 my time is clearly running out. Even I get pg, I've got to make it stick and then go through all the worry about anomalies etc.

I've had (virtually) all the tests and nowt is wrong. I know some of you are on the testing/trying new things out road, and I hope you find some resolutions and possible solutions.

Can't think about putting an end date on this yet. But will have to at some point. It's too debilitating and disruptive to continue hankering after what I might never get.

Anyway - hope BBB continues to make shit coffee and do daft things... .

Wiggle, Broken and AandR, just thought I would let you know I called my docs earlier and the referrals for both Dr Shehata and St Mary's went off on the 5th April. Hopefully that means that the ball is rolling to get some testing done. Will call them both in a couple of days to check they have received my referrals and also see what the waiting list is like.

Congrats on school things YRMOFB and hello Jollster - sorry for what you are going through. Sounds v frustrating. I am new to this thread so not well informed on everyone's situation.

CD1 here today, fully expected so am ok with it. Will update myself on list and try not to hash it up this time

I think I'm going to ask the clinic if it's possible to try an iui during monitoring cycle. Cycles are currently 28 days and ov on day 14 so it would just be an extra, erm, 'shot' if we can get the timing right. I'm not sure if this might be a ridiculous idea but I'll put it by them tomorrow and see what they say.

Well my newly pregnant friend (the pee stick waving one) told me today her due date. I am a bad friend as I dont really care :( am sure I will get used to it in a few weeks.

hi ladies, back in London, catching up but knackered and with a cold (although it appears most of my train also has the cold). AF arrived a week ago while I was on holiday, was completely rubbish, held off and spotted for a day then nothing which made me think maybe I'd be lucky, then arrived finally to dash the hopes and bring on the tears.
Not sure how we'll deal with this cycle, I suspect it'll be 'sat out' as we'll probably be so busy finalising the move we miss our chance and not sure I care to be honest.
