Getting us started on a new thread; this one is gonna be a lucky one!

OP posts:
IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 05/04/2011 22:29

bb that does sound promising...

battery Shock Envy Sad. Life's not fair x

freelancegirl · 05/04/2011 22:54

Ahh, thanks Izzy, Broken, Freezing and Battery and anyone I have missed for the hellos! Hello to all that are not name checked in this one too. It's nice to be welcomed on new boards as otherwise I feel quite shy Blush

MummyAbroad I have also followed your Amazon link and bought those OPKs. Thanks! Gosh that One Click Buy thing is dangerous. This week Amazon have already prised three books (Reagan?s MC one, a thyroid one and the Is Your Body Baby Friendly one) and now these.

Zam ? how did the thyroid results turn out? I have been treated for under active since I was around 21 (36 now) and although my TSH and T4 are controlled and normal raised antibodies apparently mean I have double the chance of mc than people without them. Make sure they check your antibodies and also make sure you get the actual figures of your thyroid test and post them here so we can look at them! I forget whether I have said it before on this thread but some docs idea of normal levels are very different to others.

Getawiggleon ? I too am awaiting delivery Alan Beer?s book to hopefully address thyroid antibodies. Mine were 429 so lower than yours but they have been raised for a long long time. Have started taking 200mcg of Selenium, which I have heard might help lower them. Your thyroid is definitely under active, I hope they have given you thyroxine. Ideally with raised antibodies I have heard the TSH should be lower than one.

I found this article really helpful:

www.thyroid-info.com/articles/fertilitythy.htm

I also managed to get my docs to refer me to Dr Shehata today. I have already asked for a referral for St Marys but as my first 2 mcs were 15 years ago I don?t think I will make the '3 consecutive' criteria. So I though I would cover my back and ask for Shehata too. I imagine the waiting list is very long though..? He seems to be very good in terms of antibodies.

Loving all the acupuncture feedback, I think I might well look into it! I had a BFN on Friday so am just waiting first AF after mc now and might consider going for it again. Terrified of these damn antibodies though.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 06/04/2011 09:09

Hello peeps.

aandr good luck for the thyroid cyst thang today. And yey for the schools thing. Lets hope it's three times lucky for us all.

freelance good to see you again. I agree that Amazon is v dangerous. I tend to be, oh that's cheap, I'll have that, and then my bag has £50 worth of junk in itBlush Hope you get your referral soon.

izz how's it going|? still avoiding the bulk of symptoms? Just trying to find a suitable wedding reception, DP thinks it's like houses, in that you just know when you find the right one, which I kind of agree with, but seeing as we're aiming for a pub in the Calder valley (big open area- think wuthering heights) then we may have to be proactive in visiting some pubs what a shame. And then there's the church/civil debate...

bb that sounds good. But just for good measure, here's a couple of fish.

battery how lucky of your friend. It's a shame she won't see that. Hope you're ok, your acu lady sounds funny. Glad you feel it's going well, and you've got a well timed ov again this month? Huzzah.

loola hope you're ok out there, cycle buddy.

jolls Hope all's well over there. I am looking in the general direction of my suspenders. Might have to try them on and see if they still fit.

mouse you have reminded me about the vitd3. did you have to get that online? Must start with the EPO, is that 1000mg? I've given up on my AC, am doing a little experiment at home, cos I ov'd on day 22ish with it, and last month I ov'd on day 16 without it. So seeing what this month has in store for me!

chloe did u get a referral through yet for the other hospital?

wiggle and zam hope the thyroid stuff goes ok.

Waves to everyone else, I've gotta go make some tea for myself do some work now.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 06/04/2011 09:10

Ooh, ma how's the sickness?

mousebacon · 06/04/2011 11:03

It's in Holland and Barett YRMOTB and it's on by one get another for 1p at the moment - bargain!!

It is the high strength, 1000mg OEP I take. I managed to find 75mg asprin in tesco last night for about 80p. Marvellous.

I was so determined to take my temperature this morning but of course, I forgot didn't I! Grr!

ZamMummyInGabs · 06/04/2011 12:37

Been called to see GP in an hour's time re my thyroid results - will keep you posted!

MummyAbroad · 06/04/2011 14:18

zam best of luck! will make a note to login later and see how you got on.

babe sickness has eased a lot in the last couple of days - could be a good thing, could be a bad thing.... I am going to book a scan today for Friday-ish when I will be 10 weeks (bean measured 9 and half last time) Trying not to worry too much and just enjoy the breather from vomit land - cant complain as its what I have been begging for recently!

mouse sounds like a nice collection of supplements you are building up there Smile have you thought about adding Raspberry Leaf tea (just until you start TTC then stop) to help tone your uterus and push out those clots? I just had a peek at the list to see where you are in your cycle and saw your "WTF forever!" status which made me Grin and Sad I was in WTF for 8 months and remember all too well just how that feels. I so hope you dont stay there anywhere like that long.xx

BB Fingers crossed for you. Sorry if you said already and I missed it, but did you ask your GP for the progesterone in the end or is that something that will wait for BFP?

Battery I dislike your peestick carrying friend as much as mine who is carrying around and displaying to all the world an ultrasound pic of a 5 week (empty) pregnancy sac . Hmm It feels wierd to dislike someone for being so stupidly excited, but I do. Blush

Good luck to everyone coming up to testing time (how are you jolls and chloe?)

and how is loola is it your lap operation this week? If so, very best of luck to you, dont be scared, I am proof that it is well worth giving your uterus and MOT before TTC!!

Big wave for everyone else, hope you are OK wiggle battery freezing ladyb AandR Izzy Velvet xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ZamMummyInGabs · 06/04/2011 15:10

Thyroid update - all normal Hmm
And it really is normal - TSH only 1.19, antibodies negative, T3 & T4 fine too.
Have to retest again in 6mo-1year coz of family history. Planning on being PG well before then tho Biscuit

brokenbarrenbrook · 06/04/2011 15:45

zam it's good news that it's normal BUT I know exactly how you're feeling as it's almost like you need something to blame for the mc. Hope you're ok x

V quick post from me as I am a total jellyhead today, an example of this is me just making coffee for everyone in the office and filling the cups up to the top with milk instead of hot water. The bloke helping me just looked at me and said er, what the fuck are you doing?! Grin

mummya good to hear sickness subsiding, sure it's totally normal but completely you going for a scan. I've not seen GP yet, partly as I'm scared, but mainly because I have to ring on the morning I want to go to get an appointment and I always forget. I'm off tomorrow so will aim for then. Ideally I want DH with me but I don't think that will be possible with our shifts.

Love to all xxx

OP posts:
Youremindmeofthebabe · 06/04/2011 16:34

bb have you tested yet?

zam well, that's good. Even though I'm sure you would like an action plan, in a way. Good though especially with the family history.

brokenbarrenbrook · 06/04/2011 16:44

Not testing, still not convinced and can't face the disappointment of a BFN, would just prefer for AF to show to find out. I'm still between 8-10 days away til I'm due on anyway so prob too early.

OP posts:
Youremindmeofthebabe · 06/04/2011 17:12

I find the BFN's worse really. I think partly because I don't always trust them either until Af starts. I'm hoping for you anywaySmile

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 06/04/2011 19:02

yrmotb that sounds lovely, and how awful having to wander round beautiful countryside testing nice pubs Wink Grin

I actually did think i was getting some symptoms earlier this week when I was feeling quite nauseous...but all seems to have died down again now, I actually feel pretty good, if a bit tired. Not sure if that's a good thing or not Confused Next hurdle is scan on the 19th so I'm just holding out for that now. How about you? Are you temping again this month or are you still in non-obsessive mode?

battery I missed your second post yesterday but just wanted to say your acupuncturist made me Grin

zam good news on the thyroid test results!

mouse sounds like you're going for it on the supplements...I was taking b6 and royal jelly too but then I do tend to get carried away so you're probably better off listening to mummya (don't let her get you on to bee pollen though...WTF was all that about?! Grin )

bb you're right, bfns are shite and to be avoided at all costs. I have got my suspenders out of the drawer but won't put them on just yet...I am keeping my fx for you though x

MummyAbroad · 06/04/2011 19:09

Grin at bee pollen. Who was it who said it tastes like rocking horse poo? Grin

Velvetcu · 06/04/2011 20:19

bbb i'm also getting my sussies ready for you but understand that you dont want another bfn.

zam glad the tests were normal but understand you wanting to have something to fix.

YRMOTB I'm no help with wedding venues - we chose the cheapest place we could find! I'm sure you will find the perfect spot. Is DP being helpful? DH did nothing for ours except turn up on the day!

battery good luck in germany this time around.

Helloooo to everyone else :)

mousebacon · 06/04/2011 21:48

Thanks mummya and izzy hadn't even thought of rasberry leaf and I may give the bee pollen a miss if it tastes like rocking horse poo!! I do feel like I've been on WTF forever but hopefully the end is in sight in the next few months - I've clocked up 2 and a half months so far...

I'm pleased your results were ok zam but I know it's a double edged sword; I so wanted mine to be 'abnormal' because at least it would have been an answer.

Good luck bbb Grin

Hope you're feeling ok velvet Smile

Waves to loola blackkat yrmotb jolls battery and all x

MummyAbroad · 06/04/2011 22:40

Zam it might not feel like it, but you have made good progress by getting those results. Every time you can rule something out you are at least a little bit further on in what you know. Hope you are OK xxx

getawiggleon · 06/04/2011 22:40

BB after your coffee making antics today I am definitely dusting off the old sussies. When I was pg with dd the first 'sign' was that I made an absolute hash of making a bowl of porridge from one of those (v easy to make) sachet things. I used to make it every morning but that day I hoofed it all up and worse still, I couldn't work out what I'd done wrong or even remember how to make it correctly using another sachet. Even with the last two mcs, my brain melts the minute the line appears on the pee stick. FX for you this month Wink

Battery Your acu's comment made me Grin

Lady Hope you're feeling a bit better today and starting to enjoy your hols. Big squeeeeeeze xx

Freelance Thanks for the thyroid info. I went to see my GP about results last week and he said straight away that he wanted to refer me to consultant endocrinologist (but recommended I use bupa cover) as TSH had risen quite dramatically in a short space of time and he was a little Confused as to why.

He was initially reluctant to prescribe meds until I'd seen consultant but I pushed for it (currently in 2ww) and when he asked if i had any symptoms I said I was "veeeery tired". A slight exaggeration but it worked and he prescribed 50mg levothroxine. Started taking it on Sun and already feel a bit better energy wise (but maybe that's just psychological).
I've found two consultants in London - Mark Vanderpump (tempted to see him because of his fabulous name and because he looks like a thoroughly nice chap from his website!) and Gordana Prelevic (she's a reproductive endocrinologist and works from a hospital near me so she may be the best option though). I'll let you know how I get on.

The antibodies concern me a bit though - do you know if there's anything they can do to prevent the body from eating its own thyroid?! And is it possible that they can lower TSH but that thyroid antibodies could still cause miscarriage?

DH has just come back from the shop with a BUCKET of haribo!! Fifty mini bags of sugary crap gummy delight. I've already managed to get through eight of them and can feel a bit of a sugar rush coming on so I'll do a crazed wave to everyone else and try and catch up more tomorrow.

getawiggleon · 06/04/2011 22:44

On subject of bee pollen, has anyone tried snotgrass wheatgrass (supposed to lower fsh)? It's bliddy awful but seems to be one of the best things you can put inside your body. I currently rattle with all the vitamins I'm throwing down my neck each morning.

freelancegirl · 06/04/2011 23:40

Hi wiggle just a quickie as am up at 5am for a job - painful as I never usually have to set an alarm...

So glad you are being referred to a consultant endocrinologist re your TSH rise. 50mcg is a start but you will probably need that increasing (I am not a doctor so that's just imo and ime!). They say you can't feel thyroxine's effect that quickly but I think sometimes you can. And at least you feel things are getting done. To give you an eg, I am on 125mcg a day and my TSH is around 0.13, which is fine for me for now and good for conceiving with antibodies.

Yes the antibodies are a worry. Many people with high antibodies do go on to have successful pgs and I am not sure what caused my mc at 7 weeks (noticed with a bang at 12 weeks) but my post-mc research has got me quite worried.

I actually read about Gordana Prelevic at the Royal Free in a magazine article and specifically asked for an appt with her a year or so ago! She was brilliant. She believes in the 'new' normal levels and tested for a lot of things including vit d deficiency and selenium, both which I now know can help lower antibodies and (hopefully) address issues relating to mc.

I did take vit D but am not taking it now. In my pre-pg Sanatogen vits, which am still taking it says it has 200% of the rda (10 mcg?) but not sure if I should be taking any more. Am now taking 200mcg of selenium.

Two things recommended to me today by a thyroid charity I work v closely with:

This page for some good info:

www.patient.co.uk/doctor/Thyroid-Disease-In-Pregnancy.htm

And secondly this book that actually looks at thyroid antibodies and how test results can be normal but there can still be problems because of antibodies present. Apparently it talks about how to deal with it and bring the antibodies down:

Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When My Lab Tests Are Normal: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Hashimoto's Disease and Hypothyroidi [Paperback]
Datis Kharrazian
(Author)

www.amazon.co.uk/Still-Thyroid-Symptoms-Tests-Normal/dp/1600376703/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1302092413&sr=8-1

Phew, not such a quickie, sorry.

Sorry everyone else for hogging the thread! Hope that helps wiggle and anyone else interested in thyroid antibodies xx

freelancegirl · 06/04/2011 23:43

I meant sorry, everyone else, for hogging the thread btw, or sorry TO everyone else. It's late...

getawiggleon · 07/04/2011 00:16

Thanks for all the info freelance. What do you freelance in? I'll have a read through those links tomorrow. I've already started on selenium but not vitamin D

Think I'll def go with Dr Prelevic if she comes recommended. Smile

Do you chart your bbt? My temp shot up this morning to 37C (never been that high before) I'm 9dpo but was wondering if thyroid meds can raise temp? (I know a symptom of hypothyroidism is low bbt)

Apologies for the thyroid hijack, everyone x

Youremindmeofthebabe · 07/04/2011 09:38

Just a quicky, does anyone know what dosage vit d3 I should be looking at?

batteryhen · 07/04/2011 13:00

babe sorry, no idea about the doseage of vit d3, I am a vitamin e girl myself :)

Just a quick post from me - am flying off to germany this afternoon. I have had a lovely back massage this morning to relax me and put me in the right frame of mind to shag like a loon SWI this weekend. I am going to try and avoid the wine too, which will be difficult.

I shall lurk from afar this weekend! xx

brokenbarrenbrook · 07/04/2011 13:02

Not too sure myself but found this that may help www.bellaonline.com/articles/art19868.asp

From what I can gather it can help to regulate your immune system, amongst other things and essentially it comes from the sun which we don't get enough of in order to keep levels topped up
