Are they any good? Are they accurate?

Im pretty desperate and need to know as early as possible.

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:24

they are shit. they are nowhere near as accurate as they claim to be for the majority of women. you are better off waiting until your period is due. why do you need to know early?

cherrychoo · 14/03/2011 18:26

gotta have asprin, LH injections twice a week and 5mg folic acid a day as soon as i know to prevent another mc (had 5 of the buggers dont want another)

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:31

i feel your pain, Ive had 13 mc's in 5y. unfortunately tests like FR arent that accurate. would your gp run tests? when do you mc? it takes the embryo up to 7d to implant, so you are still better off waiting til your period is due (sorry) would your gp do a blood test at 14dpo?

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:32

you should take asprin from 21dpo (earlier can prevent implantation) and take FA everyday anyway.

cherrychoo · 14/03/2011 18:34

hi lissie, i always mc before 12 weeks.

have you ever got to the bottom of your mcs?

Not much point i dont think for GP to run tests, by the time results came back either af would have come or i would be dipping a stick.

OP posts:
cherrychoo · 14/03/2011 18:35

folic acid 5mg only on px, i take the standard dose atm.
have done for 4 years!!!!

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:40

nope, my cons is pretty shite. mine occur at 5-6w and have been told that there is nothing much they can do above heparin from 6w, asprin and high dose FA before 6-7w. basically you can minimize your risks, but thats about it. its worse because I KNOW whats happening (always get a temp spike before i mc) and they wont listen.

I know how frustrating it is, and a while back I was testing every cycle from 7dpo, but it caused more heartache (bfp, then bleeding a few days later) and cost me a bloody fortune. hcg varies so much from pg to pg. starting your treatment at 21dpo is really early enough, and LH injections as soon as you get a bfp.

have they ruled out NK cells? clotting?

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:41

i was told to take 5mg FA daily. have done 5.5y.

kirrinIsland · 14/03/2011 18:46

I had the 5mg FA on prescription in preparation for ttc again after a loss - my consultant said I should have it my system for a month or 2 before ttc. Mine was a neural tube defect rather than a mc though - not sure if that makes a difference??

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:49

i really think that if you have a history of issues/mc then high dose FA should be taken daily while ttc. you would take normal FA and not smoke, avoid getting trollied, not take drugs while ttc to give yourself the best chance after all, this is no different.

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 18:50

kirrin, Im so sorry for your loss.

yours too cherry, just realised I hadnt said that yet in my rant againt early hpt's Blush

orangehead · 14/03/2011 19:23

How early are you wanting to test cherry? A couple of my pregs I got bfp 3 days before af due this as quite a few years back before them claiming you could test early.
I have had 3 mcs and I had to take aspirin with both my son' pregnancys.
I agree maybe ask if your gp will test. When my gp did blood tests for pregnancy I always got the result back the following pm.

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 19:27

if your gp wont, try your clinic. they have tested me before now because i got a bfn and i was pretty sure that it was wrong. i was 15dpo at the time (i was pg btw)

I have the stats for accurate results somewhere (i bring them out everytime i start a "do not test" thread. I will locate them.

OracleInaCoracle · 14/03/2011 19:42

heres an article Ive found.

another thing worth bearin in mind is that when they say "from 6d early" they mean 6 days from your missed period based on a 28d cycle and assuming that you ovulate on CD14. so actually 9dpo. many women's hcg levels dont rise all that dramatically either. when i was up the pole with ds i got one faint bfp. and thats it. all the gp's wee tests were bfn.

cherrychoo · 15/03/2011 16:08

hm, yes i am doing everything right. Not had a drink for 4 years, decaf everything, healthy BMI, have never smoked and follow healthy diet.

apparently all bloods are normal, no issue of clotting although interestingly i had pre eclampsia with ds, and this can indicate clotting issues, hence the asprin recomendation.
Itsa worry with me being 40 now.
I think its going to be another BFN this month anyway as sore boobs are now back to normal.
Bring on month 16.....Sad

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 15/03/2011 16:13

I totally understand. we have been ttc#2 for 5.5y now and have had 13 mc's. its utterly soul destroying. which clinic are you with? will they do NK cell testing? what symptoms do you get around mc?

cherrychoo · 16/03/2011 10:10

Ive been to Liverpool, they have been very good, in that they have helped me make some sense of it all.

I have 2 different types of mc, i have had 3 blighted ovum and 2 mcs with babies and hb seen.
I just stop feeling pregnant, and bleed.

Dont know how you feel, but to me a + pregnancy test didnt acually mean anything to me. I always just thought "oh well, here we go again" but since going to Liverpool i feel i have a fighting chance if i start what has been recommended as early as possible.

I am actually excited for the first time in years about a + result...like normal women are who dont have a worry in the world!

I do of course have ds who is 7, but it took 3 years and 2 mcs to get him, and i didnt do anything different while trying for and expecting him as i was told that previous mcs are "just very bad luck"

I am not sure if they did the test for nk cells, but they assured me that they do lots of very detailed testing. All came normal.
They didnt make another appointment for me either, just said give it another 6 months. Feel a bit abandoned again to be honest.

Have you ever got to the bottom of your mcs? What causes them and what are your symptoms?

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 16/03/2011 13:39

i went to LWH and felt very let down by them. NK cell testing is rather intrusive so you would have known about it.

I hate bfp's now. my last one I threw the test across the room and sobbed for an hour. didnt tell dh for 5d. my cons wont listen to me, he is shite. I get a bfp, feel great for a week, then I feel ill. not morning sickness but fluey and dizzy. then my temp spikes, i get a fever and start bleeding. seems fairly obvious that its an immune disorder but.. ds is nearly 6, I had uterine group b strep followed by a uterine infection (which wenyt undetected) and they put my bladder in the wrong place following my cs, so its obvious that something has arisen from that.

try your FA daily instead though.

cherrychoo · 17/03/2011 10:06

Its rubbish isnt it.

Trouble is, its been so long now that i am kind of losing my drive. I feel that i need to have a second child, its not that i want what i cant have, i just have a need in me, cant explain it.

I am realistic however and realise all too plainly that i am 40, and that actually mother nature may be telling me some thing. DH is desperate for another, bless him.

Sorry, what is FA?

What can be done about an immune disporder? can steroids help or anything like that?

Also, do you tell people when you are pregnant? Then what do you tell them when you mc? What do you do about work, do you carry on as usual?

Im not convinced about Liverpool, i suppose i have great expectations and from initial appointments they told me SO much that made sense as i have been badly let down by my local hospital in so many ways.
I asked my GP to reffer me after 2 years of neglect.

So AF is on her way now, i am not sure what else we can do to encourage conception, think we are on countdown to giving up now tbh Sad

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 17/03/2011 10:15

its folic acid.

I understand what you mean about the drive. our family isnt complete yet, i am 33 and my cycle is going haywire, so pretty sure that my fertility is declining now. immune disorders can be either prevented by steroids or AB's. but cons wont try it. where are you?

cherrychoo · 17/03/2011 10:53

Near Blackpool, you?

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 17/03/2011 18:56

Im in shropshire, thought we might have the same consultant Wink

FutureNannyOgg · 17/03/2011 19:52

I got some 10mu ones from ebay and got a positive result 12 days after conception. Very faint line though, and had to wait a bit longer than instructions said. Retested the next day and got a clearer line faster.

If I needed to know early I would be inclined to bulk buy and test daily from about 10 days after.

OracleInaCoracle · 17/03/2011 19:58

but futurenanny, Ive seen far too many threads where someone posts "omg, just got a faint bfp.. woo hoo" and a few days later (when period was actually due) "well, started bleeding Sad" i understand the need to know, and Ive posted this so many times before. its fecking heartbreaking. yes, if you need injections etc you should test asap, but 14dpo is plenty early enough.

I hate companies like clearblue and firstresponse for pushing these tests on women. when you are desperate for a baby you will do anything to see that bfp, but testing early doesnt make you any more pregnant.

cherrychoo · 19/03/2011 16:36

So af arrived a couple of days early as it happens.

bastard.

Logged onto facebook and two more freinds have had babies (SO cute) so felt myself welling up. Logged off again without commenting. Will congratulate when i am less hormonal Sad

Oh well, another month another hope but we wont be having baby cherrychoo in 2011.
