Hi everyone,

I am new to this, but we just got my husbands results back and everything was normal, aside from only having 25% of sperm motile, with 23% of these speedy. I am just looking for some success stories of people falling pregnant naturally with rather lazy sperm!!

Thanks xx

A good friend in your situation ended up on the IVF route. The last natural cycle before injections started was when she conceived naturally as they had chilled out about the whole thing. Perfectly possible but relax!

Aw thank you....I have been stressing allot to be honest. Guess it only takes one. x

Hi waterbaby, I've conceived with rates when tested of 27-38% (over three tests over a 2 mth period - they seem to vary a lot). I'm still quite surprised it actually worked! Good luck, it definitely can happen!

Hmm, TeaSleepFood, I have yet to meet anyone who is chilled out just before IVF injections start - and I've 4 cycles under my belt and have loads of friends who've gone down that route. This whole idea that it will happen if you just relax is bullocks in my opinion. Sorry, I really don't mean to sound harsh but that is not how it works and it makes couples with fertility problems feel guilty that they are not "relaxed" enough to conceive naturally.

Waterbaby, it is true that spermograms can vary a lot, we've had results that were at odds with each other over a period of 2 years. Have your man take some multivitamins, I think it can help. And of course cut down smoking if applicable. Good luck!

Agree that the advise to just relax and it will happen is just complete rubbish, most couples who have been trying for a year with no luck will have some underlying problem, even if it is just a small one or an easily solved issue, that's not to say that they wont ever concieve naturally, just relaxing really won't help though, and in fact I think sometimes it makes couples delay getting help, as they think that if they just relax that it will happen and then beat themselves up even more when it doesn't. In fact the latest research showed that stress had no impact on IVf success rates at all, so would imagine trying naturally would be the same. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-12567103

It would really wind me up when friends used to say to us things like, oh just relax, take a holiday, try not to think about it, let nature take it's course etc etc Angry

Have you seen a doctor to fully explain your husbands results? What was their advise re next steps?

I think it would be a good idea to get the tests redone in 3 months and between now and then for your husband to take a really good pre conception vitamin, such as the Zita West one, try to avoid too much alcohol, smoking, hot baths, try to wear boxer shorts etc and see how much that helps. Tests do vary from one month to the next, my husband has had lots, and the variance can be quite huge.

I haven't had this personally but we have two very close friends that had this problem. She had severe endo and he had lazy sperm so the odds were against them..........but they had 2 very healthy boys with an 18month gap between them and are now considering # 3 !GrinGood luck ! Oh and i forgot to say it took them an average of a year to concieve both.....so not long really !

Anymore success stories please! Having a negative day....

His count was 38 million, with a total of 121 million, so there must be some chance of falling pregnant naturally? x

We had this and conceived DD naturally after we got our appointment letter for fertility treatment Smile
However, had to go down the IVF / ICSI route for this next one.

If the problem is poor sperm, you might be advised to do ICSI by fertility specialists.
Also, some people advise cutting down on alcohol, healthier lifestyle for the man. DH did do this (as he was drinking 2 beers and a bottle of wine every night), but didn't make any difference.
