Hi All

My first post here. My husband and I are trying for a baby but we've only just started! I am 45 (that's the way it goes for some, I didn't meet him till late in life). My period is nearly a week late but I've been getting all the symptoms (sore boobs, bloating, bit of spotting a week ago, dizzy spells). I am wondering how long to wait before I do a pregnancy test. I just can't believe that at this age conception could happen so quickly. I know each person is different but I am not sure what to do and hubby is in a panic, too!

Thanks.

Do it now! Sounds like it'll be positive, you must be a very patient person, I'd have tested a week ago! :)

As soon as your period is late.

And then tell us the result! Smile Good luck!

Oceynorm · 26/02/2011 22:50

Hi All

Thanks for the advice! I did the test and it was positive! I was so shocked that I did a second one and that was positive, too. I've just been trying to get my head round it as I thought it would take many months, if at all! And yes, meliesmummmy, I am actually a very patient person, hence the delay - even though I had feelings that it wasn't just a late period. Shock

Thanks everyone! Euphoria slightly shortlived as a friend suggested it could be a chemical pregnancy and to wait a while. I've never heard of it and looked it up on this site. Trying not to feel too down as I suppose it would be a true miracle if I was pregnant as we have only just started TTC. Can anyone tell me what BFP, AF, CP and BFN mean? Thank you.

A chemical pregnancy I understood is where you find out your pregnant before your period but go on to have a period because the body doesn't hold the baby,

BFP- big fat positive(result of test)
BFN- big fat negative
AF- auntie flo (strange name for period!)
CP- chemical pregnancy????

Think positive and enjoy the news there is no reason to believe it won't carry on :)

Bexamundo · 28/02/2011 06:54

I believe with a chemical pregnancy it's when you test early then have peter as normal. Since yours is over a week late I'd be surprised if It's a chemical pregnancy!

Why would you wait? For one thing, if you are pg you will want to check you are eating/drinking appropriately and on the right vitamins. Congratulations, hope it all goes well.
