Honest opinions really needed as I'm getting a bit worried - sorry if TMI!

Before DC1 I had very irregular periods and once went almost 2 years without one. I was also diagnosed with PCO but had no real problems with this.

After breast feeding DC1 my periods returned with a relatively regular cycle of 6-8 weeks until I fell pregnant with DC2. After breast feeding DC2 I had 3 or 4 periods 6 weeks apart (give or take a few days). However, it is now almost 14 weeks since the start of my last period. At first I put this down to my PCO causing an irregular cycle, but after experiencing very light bleeding for only 12 hours (exactly like I did on & off throughout my pregnancies) I did a pregnancy test - negative.

I have now just experienced the same bleeding for a second time. I have no other pregnancy symptoms. Do you think it could have been a false negative as I could be quite far on, or perhaps signs of something else?

I know I need to get checked out but will have to wait a few days for an appointment, so wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks in anticipation.

You should do another test and whatever the result try to see your gp as soon as possible.I have PCOS and had 2 false negatives with my first pg so that could be a possibility, best to see a doctor though just to be on the safe side.

Thanks ariane5. Have booked an appointment but the soonest isn't until Tues eve as suspected - glad it's not imminently life threatening! DH thinks I should go to walk in clinic but I really don't think that's appropriate. Will test again in a few days just to check. Out of curiosity, how far along were you before you got a positive result? Hope you don't mind me asking - if you do just ignore!

Thanks again.

my cycle is usually 35 days but has been as much as 60 days, with dd1 i tested at 35 and 41 days and got negatives despite feeling pg. I had scans which showed nothing at all but the blood hcg test they did at hosp was positive.

I got a positive home preg test at 50 days and it took another week and a half for anything to show on a scan (they were worried it was ectopic).

Maybe you should try one of the early pg tests as they might be more sensitive and give an accurate result?

good luck
