Tell me your TTC regime - grapefruit juice? cough syrup?

Hello,

Can you share your collective mumsnet TTC tips with me? I have been TTC #3 for quite a while now. I conceived dd2 in super quick time (2 months) using lots of tips picked up from mumsnet. I had a full-on regime that I vaguely remember included the likes of grapefruit juice, cough syrup, vitamin B6 and lots of other things. I'd like to give it a go again but can't remember anything else! Please help Grin

I'm on 2nd cycle of ttc #1. I've been sourcing the internet for tips. So far:

White Grapefruit juice pre ovulation - suppose to help with ewcm.
Pineapple including the core post ovulation - suppose to help with implantation.

Have started raspberry leaf tincture this month and will take it all month.

Green tea is meant to be good, though caffeine bad so not sure how that works out?

Anyone else got any advice Smile

jezebelle · 21/02/2011 23:18

I used vit B6, was fab for regulating periods and ovulation and made me feel great, i'm now pg but will probably start taking it again after having baby to get back into good cycle. I charted, took temp and used ovulation tests too :)

QueLindaManita · 21/02/2011 23:22

I'm thinking of taking B6, my cycle is 33 days which is 'normal' but too long... wonder if B6 would shorten it a bit.

KatyH · 21/02/2011 23:49

Do you take B6 for the whole cycle? Or is it just the second half i.e. post-ovulation? I think I remember taking evening primrose oil for the first half and B6 for the second half to lengthen the luteal phase...or am I talking rubbish?!

Hi Katy

How long is "quite a while". How old are you now?. I ask that as generally speaking as well fertility does decline with age.

Both of you should be investigated further to see where the problem/s lie and a visit to the GP would be in order. You don;t need to concentrate on things like drinking grapefruit juice etc as it likely won't help.

Karbea · 22/02/2011 08:00

I'm sure someone mentioned almond or brazil nuts the other day, how does that come into it?

Collie2 · 22/02/2011 09:39

Katy here's a good link on suppliments

I'm taking Evening primrose oil and grapefruit juice for cm, zinc for both DH and I for increased feterility and healthier sperm (DH that is not me Wink ) I also have flaxseed for post ov to improve implantation. Don't forget folic acid too.

For DH selenium is good for increasing quanity if sperm and L-Carnitine for increase mobility and fish oils also for increased sperm count and mobility.

Maybe a little overboard, i think i got giddy in the health shop! Good luck

Lettie70 · 22/02/2011 10:29

I started drinking grapefruit juice leading up to ovulation and did notice it increased EWCM. But then I read (always dangerous) that sperm prefer alkaline conditions. So doesn't grapefruit juice make CM more acidic?

orangehead · 22/02/2011 10:36

I have only started this month so new to all this. So whats the deal with grapefruit juice?

apples82 · 22/02/2011 10:56

I never tried grapefruit juice because I can't stand the taste.

Firstly, used amazon ovulation test (30 for a fiver) and that told me when I had my LH surge, so we SWI alot around then. Didn't happen first month, even though I thought that would do it.

Second month, didn't pay attention really to the tests, even though did them still daily.

Instead, we had SWI every other day from day 10 through to day 28. Believe me, we were both exhausted by the end of it, but we did indeed get a BFP on day 30 Grin.

At some point I say give up the fads and just do it alot!!! Smile

apples82 · 22/02/2011 10:56

Plus we used conceive plus rather than normal lube, and it helps the little swimmers on their journey instead of creating a barrier.

Collie2 · 22/02/2011 11:05

apples that is some impressive SWI!! Grin congrats on yor bfp....or was this some time ago?

I'm doing the sperm meets egg plan which is essentially the same - shag alot, but also uses opks. I'll be starting to swi tonight on CD15 as i'm a 40 day cycle and don't tink i could manage 30 days of SWI! Grin

I hope its as lucky for me as it was for you apples

Ariesgirl · 22/02/2011 11:15

Is anyone other than apples having any sex? Just a thought...Grin

apples82 · 22/02/2011 12:26

Collie2 it wasn't easy, lets face it, the SWI is fun to begin with, but that amount certainly becomes less fun! Wink

I only recently got my BFP, i'm 6+1 EDD 17/10/11.

I hope you get a BFP soon too Collie2, keep going!!! Grin

apples82 · 22/02/2011 12:28

Ariesgirl, since the BFP we have certainly cut out that dedication, we're both knackered from it all!!!

kateepie2 · 22/02/2011 15:28

The month that worked for me (am now 6 weeks and have the same EDD as apples Smile ) I drank grapefruit juice pre-ov, used opks for the first time and temped and found that I ov'd two days before I thought I normally would (day 12, not day 14).

I followed ov with 2 litres of pineapple juice, consumed over 4 days.

It worked for me! Wink

Green tea isn't recommended in pregnancy by the way, as it inhibits the absorption of folic acid...

Good luck for your BFP Katy

Ariesgirl · 22/02/2011 15:33

*Two litres^ of the stuff? Quel horreur Shock

Ariesgirl · 22/02/2011 15:34

Two litres of the stuff? Quel horreur Shock

Ariesgirl · 22/02/2011 15:34

Oh dear. Special character fail :(

apples82 · 22/02/2011 15:39

kateepie2 Grin same EDD

kateepie2 · 22/02/2011 15:52

Laughing at the pineapple juice horror Grin at least it tastes nicer than grapefruit!

apples FF puts me at 6+1 too, so guess we conceived same date?

spidookly · 22/02/2011 16:25

For me both times it was having sex every day from around day 7 to maybe day 21.

In other words, from the end of my period until I was too tired to keep going.

KatyH · 22/02/2011 21:44

Ooh lots of ideas! Love it. Attila - I am 37 and when I say 'quite a while' I mean 6 months. I know, it's not that long but I'm very impatient Blush. Don't have any worries about my fertility really as I've conceived 3 times with little difficulty (and all in less than 6 months). I just want it to happen now!!

I think I'm going to have to make a list! Would love to do it a lot (v jealous apples!) but DH away with work frequently so need to enhance the few chances I get.

jezebelle · 22/02/2011 21:49

I took B6 every day.

jezebelle · 22/02/2011 21:50

And, i took it the first 12 weeks of pg too :)
