Weird AF after HSG?

Hi all - I am seeking your wisdom! Has anyone had an HSG and then had a weird AF afterwards?

I had an HSG early on in my cycle, and all was fine, the radiographer said all was clear (hurrah!). It was 4 weeks ago and I have had no PMS symptoms - the usual one being painful boobs, which come on around teh time I ovulate. Then at the weekend I began to bleed a bit, but just brownish blood rather than the usual red, and only a bit, rather than the usual first day flood. No pains, no aches, still no sore boobs. I tested Sat and just got a BFN.

It's sort of dribbling on (TMI!) without becoming properly red. Has anyone else experienced this? I will test again - am putting it off until Thurs, when I have an appointment at the hosp to discuss next steps in fertility treatment.

It's all v mysterious. Any thoughts?

Yes, yes, yes! I could have written your post.

I am on day 26 of my cycle today.

I had my HSG on day 9, and like you got the all clear. The booklet the hospital gave me said that I might bleed for a few days immediately after the HSG. There was absolutely nothing.

I ovulated on day 13 of my cycle.

On day 20 of my cycle I started to bleed very lightly. Exactly like you described. Light brown blood, but no red blood. I understand that brown blood is old blood.

As I had no bleeding between day 9 and day 20, I was hoping that it was an implantation bleed. However, I am now 13 dpo and got a BFN today also. I am still bleeding very lightly on and off, and it's still brown. My period is due by Wednesday so I assume that it will arrive, but who knows? It's just so odd because I would never normally start to bleed that early in a cycle, or for so long before AF proper starting (assuming that she will arrive). The most that ever happens to me is light spotting 2 - 3 days before AF arrives.

I agree 'tis all very strange.

I think it's likely to be old blood from around the cervix caused by slight trauma from the HSG catheter. Which is only appearing now as your cervix opens slightly for your period. You could always mention it at your appointment though.

Thanks titan, that hadn't occurred to me, I will ask on Thurs. Knackered I'll let you know what the consultant says! What I don't understand is where's the rest of my womb lining?!

Thanks titan That's re-assuring to know. Luckbea that would be great if you could. I've been worrying about the bleeding for ages. In my case it does appear that AF is now arriving Sad

Morning Knackered, I've just got back from the hosp. Apparently what we're experiencing can sometimes happen after an HSG. The consultant said that when they rummage about down there, it can affect cycles so that is the most likely explanation. But she also said that if next month it's the same they'll check it out - although she expects me to be back to normal by then.

So, not an earth-shattering revelation. Let's hope we're both back on form next time. I just kept thinking of all the posts I'd read about people getting preg after an HSG and hoping...ah well, onwards and upwards.

We were told we're going to start IVF in the spring, so I guess that's good news. Mainly because of our ages, I'm 39 and DH is 45.

I'll put this on a separate message as well, so that that you don't miss it. Good luck and keep positive Smile.
