BFP after 13 months TTC

Hello all,

Was a frequent lurker on these threads for a looooong time. Just wanted to share my story as it used to give me so much hope reading about ladies who got pregnant after trying for a while.

Age 32
Conceived DD (now 3.2) very quickly.
Decided to start TTC again in December 2009 thinking I'd be pregnant in a month or two!!!
Well after 2 or 3 months TTC was in full anxiety mode convinced something must be wrong. Used CBFM which picked up peaks every month. Started temping and had temp shifts.
Anyway waited a few more months and convinced DH to have some preliminary tests done - all normal which made me panic even more. If it's all normal then what can be done? Looking back I should have been far more relaxed about everything at this stage (which is easy to say now).

Anyway as the 12 month mark approached I was resigned to the fact that my DD may not have a sibling. It was a terrible time. I was so sad for what I thought might never be whilst trying to enjoy every single moment with DD.

Anyway month 13 DH and I were ill with flu. DTD only 3 times on Days 7, 9 and 11. Knew we'd be straight onto month 14. Anyway Day 23 and I noticed the teeniest, tiniest bit of blood in CM. I mean size of a pin-head.....if I hadn't been checking CM would have missed it. This gave me a bit of hope. Symptoms all otherwise normal pre-period with lots of cramping for next few weeks.
Positive pregnancy test 23rd December on day 29.
Had 12 weeks scan yesterday and all is well.
I still can't believe how blessed we are. The pain of the last year has already faded, but I don't think I'll ever forget just how hard it was and how strong and brave those ladies are that keep going month after month after month. :)
Couldn't decide whether to post this but just wanted to share to balance out the 'we got pregnant 1st month of trying' stories. Wink

Hello Giraffe. Thanks for sharing that - a fabulous story, thank you :)

You say days 7, 9 and 11? Can I ask your UCL and if you know how long your luteal phase is and stuff?

giraffemummy · 11/02/2011 08:52

Hello Aries

UCL 26 days. Shortest 24 days, longest 30 days. Luteal phase pretty consistent at 13/14 days.

Had ovulation pains on Day 11 so pretty sure ovulated Day 11 or 12 that month.

DTD on Day 7......tmi alert..........me on top. Said to DH 'doesn't matter, this is just the warm up...too early today'.
Anyway then both of us fell ill and forced ourselves to DTD on Day 9 and 11 which I guess is real life when you've been trying for ages and just desperate for a BFP!!

DH convinced it was the Day 7 sex that did it. DD was def conceived this way! and also a few days before ovulation!! Well we'll wait and see. If it's another DD I've said he might be right. :)

Congratulations!

Thank you for posting your story, this is my 8th month of ttc my first and I had started to worry that something must be wrong. It is good to hear that sometimes it just takes a bit longer. All we ever seem to hear about is people who conceived by accident, or within a couple of months so it's easy to think that is what happens for everyone.

I hope you have a very lovely and uneventful pregnancy

Thanks so much for posting this, it really does help :) next month will be my 10th month if I'm not lucky this cycle and reading stuff like this really does help to keep the optimism up. Good luck with your pregnancy! :) x

Changing2011 · 11/02/2011 12:43

Thank you for posting I have been trying since Nov 2009 x x x hoping for a change soon xx

Thank you for you good wishes.

Also wanted to add that we tried everything from the expensive pre-natal vits, to pre-seed to going alcohol and caffeine-free in the hope that 'this will be our month'. Also both have normal BMIs, non-smokers etc. whilst in the end I think as long as you are reasonably healthy all the extra stuff is probably unneccessary.

Also got way too obsessed with age gap between children. Think I finally got over this the month before conceiving when a friend commented that each wee family is different in their own way.
The funny thing is that all these things don't seem to matter now Grin.
