I came off the Pill in May 2010, after almost 14 years (Binovum, if that makes a difference) and planned to start TTC #1 as soon as possible.

I had a withdrawal bleed as normal after taking my last pill and about 28 days later had my first natural bleed. Since then, however, nothing. Not a spot!

I saw my GP in September last year and she told me to come back if my periods had not returned after 6 months off the Pill. They did not return so I went back to the GP in early January. She referred me for blood tests and an ultrasound which were carried out but have shown up nothing: blood tests ruled out hormonal issues and ultrasound ruled out PCOS.

I've now been referred to a gynaecologist at my local hospital, but have to wait another 6 weeks for my appointment.

I guess what I'm getting at is has anyoe else been in a similar situation and if so what was the outcome? I'm driving myself (and DH) insane thinking that there is something wrong with me.

I'm almost 30, have never smoked, drink very little and am of a healthy weight.

Someone tell me that this is common, please!

Hello Cavey. I didn't want you to go unanswered. I haven't got any advice I'm afraid but I hope you get some answers soon. x

Hi Aries [waves] Just wanted to be nosey really and be reassured find out if anyone else has been in a similar situation.

DH keeps saying that I should not think the worst (I can be a total hypochondriac at times) and I know he is right really.

How are things with you and MrA?

Oh you know. Still not bloody pregnant! Grin

Maybe this time - ever the optimist. Went on a dirty weekend lovely break last week so maybe that's done the trick!

Hi Cavemum, this pretty much happened to me - no period for about 9 months after coming off the pill (Dianette) after 12 years. I went to the doctors after 6 months and he told me to come back a year later. I did as my periods were still really erratic (I think I had 5 in 18 months).

I was referred to my local Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) and was diagnosed with PCOS and (due to male factors also) have been having ICSI/IVF.

Anyway, the point that I'm trying to make is that maybe a referral to your ACU rather than gynaecologist may be more suitable? I had PCOS dismissed by a GP years ago and I think it's because GPs don't have enough time/expertise in this area.

My experience of the ACU at my hospital has been great - they have completely taken over (I've not had to go back to my GP) and they've been really thorough.

Another example of our GP not having enough experise was that he said that DH's sperm test was fine - the count was fine but the morphology and motility were terrible, which are just as important. Luckily the ACU looked a bit more closely at the results!!

Hope this helps xxx

Idreaminchocolate thanks for your reply, it is good to know I'm not the only one!

I will definitely bear your point in mind when I see the gynaecologist. It has taken so long to get this appointment sorted that I don't want to let it go! However I will make sure I make a nuisance of myself!

When I came off the pill I didnt have a period for about a year. I went to the doctor and they werent too concerned, just said I probably wasnt ovulating.

When I then tried to conceive years later my periods were still quite irregular (35 day cycle or more sometimes) but I became pregnant straight away but had a miscarriage. After the miscarriage it took about 9 months for my periods to get back to normal and then I had another miscarriage. After that one they gave me Clomid so that my periods would get back to normal which they did. Since then I've had 3 children then another 2 miscarriages but my periods are now like clockwork! I think I just took it that my periods were quite erratic and so were easily knocked out. I was also underweight (naturally) so wasnt sure if that had an effect.
