This may sound like a really thick question...

...but what does it feel like to be pregnant, how quickly can you 'get a symptom' as it were. etc...

The reason it's thick is because i already have a DS who is 17 months old - i just can't remember!

Another query is this: Can you get period pains that come and go but no period arrives and still be pregnant. Or do the pains mean definitely not pg?

Obviously i could do a simple pregnancy test but i am not in the mood for disappointment right now.
By my not set in stone calculations i am 4 days late, but would want to wait a few more days before testing as had cramps yesterday a.m - to the point i had to rush home incase period had arrived IYKWIM!
Thoughts anyone????????????????

The period type pains have been the first sign for both of my pregnancies. That and extreme tiredness!

auntymandy · 12/10/2005 13:22

I had period pains with some of mine1 in early stages.

suzywong · 12/10/2005 13:24

take a good sniff, of anything. If your sense of smell is highly effective that is a sign.

spookylips · 12/10/2005 13:24

i had no pains but was extremly knackered as on the new year day - i came home from a party after midnite coz i couldnt drink and was too tired.. but i didnt know i was 2 weeks gone!

spookyserenity · 12/10/2005 13:25

IIRC I had period type cramps at the beginning of my pgs, but the first symptoms I always got were incredible expanding breasts (v. sore as well) and sickness.

Late is good if you're normally quite regular.

monkeychops · 12/10/2005 13:29

am feeling pretty tired, actually, which did raise the suspision. I may of course just be trying to convince myself/ is it in my head etc because it took me a year the 1st time and have only been ttc for 2 months this time - i guess i don't believe it will be any faster/easier this time round... but your period pains with 2 pregnancies is encouraging, flamebat

first time no symptoms for 8 weeks, this time had period pains as my due date approached, spots moodiness, creamy discharge and hellish 24 hour all day sickness from 6 weeks.

so you could be

test NOW!

PS. my boobs never grew during my first pregnancy and never hurt, this time they have still not grown and feel normal "WHATS GOING ON GOD????"

QueenVictoria · 12/10/2005 13:57

I had gripey pains with both pgs. Symptoms vary from pg to pg and person to person. You will only know for sure if you either start your AF or do a test.

monkeychops · 12/10/2005 14:23

oooo lovecloud - have had some excessive suspect discharge... [positive faced emoticon]

As for boobs the only time i have every lookedlike a blow up doll was when bf ds.. now they are totally deflated, so am hoping that if and when pg i will regain some plumpness, even if only momentarily!
I shall re address they do i don;t i test question tomorrow morn.
Am going on a hen night this fri...

Well I had what I thought was the first sign of the period, but now know was implantation bleeding. I then chatted to my brother (a dr) over huge quantities of wine and told him we were trying, but that I wasn't pg as I came on already - strangely it only lasted a day. He said that I was probably pg and it was implantation bleeding. I had to have a ciggarette to get over the shock (as a non/lasped smoker) He thought it hilarious and said I'd better drink/smoke all I could as once I had done the test I'd be stuffed. This was a day or two after I was due on

Next sympton was really achey boobs, but I knew I was pg.

donnie · 12/10/2005 15:09

achey tingly boobs from day 1 - I knew almost immediately. Also weird feelings in tummy!

monkeychops · 19/10/2005 13:12

Ok. I did a pg test on monday as i was then 10 days late. Guess what : Negative!! Still no AF and so did one again this a.m : STILL NEGATIVE!!! I have sore boobs when i wake up in the morning so i don't understand atall. This is why i waited so long before testing because i kept getting bfn's with 1st pregnancy IFYKWIM.

Now tell me i am not completely brain dead but am I or am I not correct in thinking that you count your 28 (or whatever) day cycle from the day your period starts NOT the day it finishes???
If I am right then i am now on day 40 of my cycle??!! What's that about?
Anyone have any inside info on my strangly behaving ovaries?

hi, I would ring the doctors and see if you can get a blood test done. As some people on here haven't had positives untill several weeks preg.

HTH

monkeychops · 19/10/2005 13:24

oh hi Jersey - thanks for your suggestion, my only concern is that although since stopping bf at xmas last year or just before my AF returned in january. it seemed to go sraight into a 28 day cycle after a couple, until august, i missed one but think it was poss cos of flying ( has mucked up my cycle in the past) then my last one was 40 days ago on 9th september. before ds was concieved i was totally irregular, maybe my cycle has gone funny again.. even though as ttc am am being mega healthy etc and taking lots of vits while eating a varied healthy diet ?

Monkeychops.

If you have had a long history of irregular cycles then chances are such irregularity will return. This can cause problems because such long cycles are also more likely to be anovulatory ones i.e ovulation has not occured.

Such problems can sometimes be due to hormonal imbalances therefore I would suggest you get a blood test done to have your LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) levels properly looked at and compared against each other.

monkeychops · 31/10/2005 11:48

Hi all. On Jersey's suggestion i had ablood test done last wednesday - which came back negative. I still don't have AF and on day 51 of my cycle. I am having period type pains on and off and shooting pains in my boobs - although they are not sensitive to touch.
Has anyone here ever had a false negative blood test? or is this impossible? I have spent too much moey on pg tests so want to wait a bit before wasting another one IYKWIM!

Hope you get this sorted monkeychops-good luck! ((xx))

MeerkatsUnite · 02/11/2005 07:23

Monkeychops,

You cannot have a fake negative blood test. There are results on there; problem is that some GPs can isinterpret said results and say that all is well when it is not. If the blood hormone levels are not compared against one another then the test is meaningless.

If you have a photocopy of your results (ask for one if you do not) have a close look at your LH and FSH levels. Both of these should have been measured. If LH is higher than FSH then this is probably why your periods are so irregular in nature. Its often due to a condition called polycystic ovaries.
