hi there :D
We're planning to ttc from june. Have been on pill/patch etc for 12yrs. Do you think it would be worth me coming off the pill at end of current packet and giving body a chance to regulate (whilst using condoms) before ttc, or shall i just wait til june, come off and try from there?
your opinions would be great....

hi, sounds like me. i came off the pill after 11yrs but i did wait to have at least one 'normal' period before stopping use of condoms. this was mainly to ensure i DID actually come on, and apparently it helps calculate exactly how far long in your pregnancy you are if u were to fall pregnant straight away

Babymaking you have to weigh it up. Some very good authorities will tell you that a lot of women have a fertility spike immediately after coming off the pill, which you can take advantage of by stayIng on the pill until you're ready to ttc.

On the other hand, there's a lot to be said for spending some time getting to know your natural cycle and familiarising yourself with your fertility signs before ttc. By charting you can build up some data which will help you to predict where in your cycle you are most likely to ovulate and check things like whether you are actually ovulating and your luteal phase is a reasonable length.

There's possibly even a middle ground here, as there's a window of opportunity between now and June for you to come off the pill, see how the land lies and then go back on.

Why not join us on the waiting to try thread while you're waiting and then we can see how you get on!

I did that. DD1 was three months ahead of schedule!

Personally I wish I had come off the pill earlier, I've had one 45 day cycle and then a 33, I think it would have given me a better understanding of my body as I have been on the pill so long. On the other hand many people do go back to their original cycle straight away!

It depends on whether it would bother you if you fell pregnant immediately.

I really regret not coming off the pill earlier, as it took 4 months and 3 sessions of acupuncture at £30 a session to get my period to arrive.

My first period was 47days after my last pill-induced period! hoping it will get into a "normal" 28 day cycle soon. i just wana be able to calculate when im more than likely to be ovulating. today is day 28 after my last period but there arent any signs of it coming yet. soooo annoying. your lucky if u go straight back into a regular cycle!

okay, am coming off just in case it takes months to regulate. and if i accdentally get pg before june then i'll just think myself lucky to be able to get pregnant easily. :)

Just don't accidentally get pregnant! And buy yourself a copy of Taking Charge of your Fertility and a thermometer.
