Anyone been for blood tests to see if they are ovulating?

Hi.

I came off the pill in September. Since then my peridos have been all over the place. I seem to be having regular 28 day cycles, however I'm bleeding for up to 15 days during a period.

I went to the doctors and had blood tests to see if I'm ovulating yesterday. they phoned today to say I have to go in and discuss the results.

I'm going to try and get an appointment tomorrow.

Really scared. Anyone else done this too?

Bless you. ok first thing, deep breath. Lots and lots of us on here have been for tests. There are some older threads about what's "normal" or expected in terms of bloods.
We've been TTC for just over a year and have started having my bloods checked. Try not to panic because it could be all manner of things or your GP may just be thorough in discussing things (mine made me have a telephone appt to discuss results). It may even be just that they got your bloods done at the wrong time in your cycle when you consider your cycle is variable. Tbh it's quite early days in terms of TTC (I was variable when I first came off the pill and settled into a regular cycle within about 6 months).

It's totally fine. My doc has sent me for 2 blood tests at different time of the cycle. I've got my second appointment tomorrow morning. They just take a little blood - that's all.

Thanks for calming me down. I think I just automatically expect the worst.

I've got my appointment in an hour, fingers crossed it's just a hormone imbalance from me coming off the pill.

update

So I went to see a different doctor today. She said the results show that I didn't ovulate this month. Then after further questioning and a diagram of my monthly cycle she deducts that the previous doctor sent me for my blood tests on the wrong day. Day 26 instead of 21.

It is therefore possible that they missed my ovulation.

Fingers crossed I come on my period today, then I will be into a 28 day cycle.

Are you charting? Doctors don't seem to know our bodies as well as we do - example this month I would be due to test on day 20 (I usually have a 27 day cycle) but because I've started charting I know I ovulated late because I've been ill. I think either way it's worth thinking about charting because it helps you feel more in control of your fertility. I thought it would add pressure but it's helping DH and myself. I've just read "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler. Not cheap but totally enlightening! Hope this month's results are more accurate for you x

When I went for my day 21 test I didn't go on day 21. My cycle is a little longer than normal (32 days) so I told the doc I'd come in on day 25 and he was fine with that.

I saw the results on the screen today when I went in for my day 3 bloods and the screen said "ovulating" so that all looks OK.

The day 21 test needs to be done seven days before your period to be accurate. So not day 21 if you don't have a 28 day cycle.

How do I start charting?

I generally tend to have a 28 day cycle, sometimes it's 29.

Hi hippie. RE charting: you take your temperature at the same time every morning then record it either on a paper graph or online. Most people use www.fertilityfriend.com. You also record other things like when you have sex and what your CM is like. There's a thread here with lots of people who chart.
The reason for the temps is that your temp goes up after you ovulate and then drops about the time that AF appears. If your temps stay up it's a sign you're pregnant.

I bought a book "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler which helped me make sense of it. There's also charters' threads where they bond over it! Basically you monitor you temperature and cervical fluids (or "lady juices" as my DH calls them!) to help you work out when you're ovulating. I've found it helpful and feel more in control of our TTC!

My period came today, which means that I've had a 28 day cycle.

I bought an ovulation kit and a thermometer today ready for this cycle.
