TTC- caffeine?

Hi all. I have had 2 recent mc's and looking to start TTC again next month. DH and I have decided to make it "dry Feb" so no boozing. I really look forward to my cuppa (or 3) every day, but am wondering if I should drop this when TTC? I would hate to mc again just because I unknowingly drank caffeine when pregnant.

Hi, I gave up caffeine (almost-still had chocolate I'm afraid) when pg again after 2 mc. I went on to mc again, but I suppose I'm glad to know it wasn't the caffeine! I suppose my points are: try something if you think it will be healthier, but chances are you'll never know what caused your previous mcs; and also that giving up coffee (I swapped with dandelion coffee and decaff tea) isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Hey banana, i became concerned that my tea drinking habits were the cause (5 a day) of my m/c. I have cut down to 2 because you read all this 'evidence'. I went beyond this a bit too much and now only drink filtered water as well as I read sth about chlorine in tap water. Still not pregnant so perhaps i should start it all again!

So sorry to hear about your MCs Sad Good luck though for your future TTC.

I'm not really sure about the safe levels of caffeine when TTC/PG but I decided to give it up just in case and have found redbush tea to be really nice (when you get used to it!).

The reason I am posting though is just to warn you- don't do what I did and stop suddenly, I had horrible headaches for about 5 days afterwards. if you decide to cut out the tea do it gradually over about a week! HTH :)

I had a missed m/c which was discovered at my 12 week scan. I was told the baby died at about 9 weeks and when I looked back it coincided with a weekend I was out socialising lots and drank loads of diet coke (and I really do mean loads, several pints - I love the stuff) and experienced weird stomach cramps and nausea that weekend. I still feel to this day that the m/c was caused by the caffeine. As you can imagine when I discovered I was pregnant again a couple of months later I kicked the coke habit, and now have a lovely daughter. I still feel guilty about the m/c, so I know I would never take the risk again.

Pretty much everything is a risk though. And having given it all up, I love attending our EPU when I miscarry where heavily pregnant women are outside enjoying a fag - sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for who gets to have a successful pregnancy!

Banana - I cut out caffeine when PG but had a missed m/c at 12 weeks so did wonder if it made a blind bit of difference. Now I have moderate amounts of caffeine the first 2 weeks of cycle and some alcohol then no alcohol and one cup of coffee a day the 2nd 2 weeks after OV. That way if I'm not PG at the end of month at least I have a 'treat' of caffeine/alcohol for a couple of weeks before whole TTC starts again!! If get PG will try and cut out caffeine altogether, at least then I can't beat myself up if have another m/c. Good luck. :)
