Dear MNers,
I have just begun the process of becoming a known egg donor for a relative and it has opened up a whole new world to me - one I was only vaguely aware of previously. I have read several of the blogs on this website and have found them immensely helpful - thank you - in particular blogs written by donors and people who have used donors.
I am also a final year law student and my involvement has sparked the lawyer in me to read and learn as much about assisted conception as possible, and I have decided to write an academic paper on the push and pull factors for seeking IVF treatment abroad. My recipient and I considered getting treatment in Barcelona but unfortunately Spanish law only allows anonymous donors so I would not have been able to donate. So we have chosen a clinic in the UK instead, although even in the UK some of the clinics were reluctant as I have not yet had any children myself.
There is very little literature on this aspect of seeking AR treatments so I thought it would be interesting and helpful (both for me and for others who may be considering treatment abroad) if there was a talk specifically dedicated to the topic, where people could anonymously share knowledge, motivations, experiences and opinions of IVF and other AR treatments abroad.
I am more than happy to share what I learn as I research, in particular the legal frameworks in different countries. Please also feel free to ask related questions and I will do my best to answer or point you towards information that might be useful.
I look forward to your insight.
