Bienvenue, welcome, bonjour, la la la

OP posts:
Jemma7 · 23/10/2003 11:23

Yeah, there have been a few people on here who have made apointments to see specialists and then fallen PG in the interim.

Didn't realise you had such a bad time with DD CD - sounds terrible

Have you thought about using OPK's or Persona to establish exactly when you do OV to give you a clearer guide for the right times?

CountessDracula · 23/10/2003 11:25

OPKs? Don't know them.
Ovulation prediction kits would that be? I think I used them once before.

Yes it's odd isn't it about the IVF appt. I guess it's the old relax and it'll happen thing?

WSM · 23/10/2003 11:27

I used the Clearblue ones after 5 unsuccessful cycles, and concieved the first month using them. It turned out that we had been BDing a week too early and so 'missed the boat' each time. It worked for me.

Jemma7 · 23/10/2003 11:30

Yes they are Ovulation Predictor Kits.

I have used them once but kept forgetting to use them but there are people here who swear by them - may be worth another try if your good at remebering to use them the same time each day!

Hope everything works out for you and your not here very long

Jane101 · 23/10/2003 12:11

Quackers, I've been taking 100mg of Clomid, even though I ovulate normally, to try to increase my chances by producing 2 eggs.
I think they often try clomid even if they don't know what's wrong because it's really cheap. That doesn't mean it won't do the trick for you of course.

I agree the list of side effects looks very worrying. The only things I've noticed are feeling a bit dehydrated, and occasional hot flushes.

CountessDracula · 23/10/2003 12:30

Thanks guys will try it. Though secretly I don't want to get pg in Oct/Nov/Dec as will mean being all up the duff in the hot summer months again, plus miss all the xmas partying again!

DH wants to get it out of the way quickly though. ROFL, when I told him that I had been given the green light he told dd (aged 14 months) and the dog to leave the room so he could get on with it!!!!

Jemma7 · 23/10/2003 12:57

ROFL - Sounds like something my DP would say!

My BIL said to his DP once she had come back from having her C-section "Come on then, lets get started again"

Typical Bloke - Sorry Dadslib - know if you see this you will prob moan

Bogwoppit · 23/10/2003 13:10

lol at you lot.
will keep my fingers in my ears this weekend than if UR all gonna be BDing!!
& if you're not around I shal know what you are up to

baby dust toyou all.

niknik · 23/10/2003 15:07

Jane I think they have put me on Clomid for the same reasons ie unexplained infertility. I'm on 100mg too. Was that your starting dose or have you been increased? How far into the treatment are you?

Its reassuring to hear that you are coping well with the side-effects

quackers · 23/10/2003 16:19

Thanks for that Jane, good luck with the Clomid, keep us posted. Niknik, I just worry about this implantation thing and the thinning of the lining. Doesn't seem to have happened to anyone here. I'm on 50mg and am going to start after Xmas!

Jemma7 · 23/10/2003 16:26

Sounds like a good idea O Quackmeister

You never knwo what might happen in the meantime

Podmog · 23/10/2003 17:07

Jane101 · 23/10/2003 20:33

niknik, we're having iui treatment as well (which was sucessful 3.5 years ago). The reason for the clomid is that I've got only 1 fallopian tube and I keep ovulating on the "wrong" side. It is possible for the tube to pick up an egg from the other side, but it's unlikely, so the clomid is to encourage me to produce more than 1 egg, in the hope one of them will be on the correct side.

I started on 50mg, which didn't seem to have any effect, but 100mg does seem to result in more egg follicles - some months anyway.

We're currently waiting to see whether our latest attempt at iui worked. It was last Saturday, so it's still too early to tell.

sibble · 23/10/2003 20:38

Am probably being realy thick here but could not work out the ovulation calender link which seemed to be saying you should bd from days 7-14 whereas I had always read days 12-16 is good if working on 28 day cycle. What does everybody else do? I am struggling to get my head around all this, stringy mucous, dates stuff when the last 2 times I only had to say the word pregnant and 2 weeks later I was. This time with my calender, mucous checks and impending clomid I feel like a medical experiment!!!! Am currently day 18 and have turned psychotic on the countdown to day 28. Am now paranoid have blown it by only managing to pin DH down on days 12 and 16. Also after 6 months of trying am drinking for 10 days then not the rest of the month but if there is a chance could be fertile from day 7........ (seem to recall DH being very willing around this time when I thought was a waste of time (how romantic!!!)

niknik · 24/10/2003 08:45

Jane why the IUI, I have been told that my right tube is blocked but the consultant is not to worried about it. He offered me four options when I saw him on Monday 1 do nothing 2 Clomid 3 Clomid with IUI or 4 IVF but recommeded the Clomid alone first I have been pregnant 9 months ago but m/c at 7 weeks.

quackers · 24/10/2003 09:19

Hope it's good news Jane with the IUI this time!! Fingers crossed for you chuck.xx
Thanks Jems, we're hopefully goingaway for the weekend if my DD is better, she's been poorly. I shall be getting plenty of sessions in !!
Re OPK's. Clearblue generlly the best, £19.99. You get 7 sticks in those and the instructions tell u which day to start on depending on your cycles. Or persona is expensive to start with but the sticks are half the price ach month and themachine tells you when you ov. I got pg first month on this. Good luck
Re ov calendar. On a 28 day cycle Sibble, I would most probs BD every other day if poss from day 9ish. If you can manage from 7 go for it!! Don't know if you've looked, I posted a link for an ov calnedar 'try thid for fun'. That one is good too. Have a look!

Jemma7 · 24/10/2003 09:47

Oh Quacks - sorry your DD is poorly - whats wrong with her??

Cannot wait for Day 38 - on day 25 at the mo so still a long way to go.............

FineVintage · 24/10/2003 09:59

Podmog, I used the Clearblue OPK's and concieved on the first month using them ! I think they cost around £19.99 for 5 tests when I bought them, that was around 2 years ago now (DD is 14mo) so they may have gone up/come down in price. Best of luck to all you BDers

P.S. WSM/Wickedstepmother has changed her name again

sibble · 24/10/2003 21:02

Every other day would be nice!!! but days 12 and 16 was good going for DH who 'had a headache' on day 12 - told him to take some paracetamol and get on with it!!!(really wish I could do winky's/smiley's etc)Is like a dog on heat from days 5-10 then about day 17 onwards but plays the dead dog in bed in between. At least he now admits to wanting a baby again but is scared. If no luck this month will buy some ov sticks as cycle now back to 28 days after m/c.
Quackers - Have a good weekend, hope you get to go away.
Day 19 and counting......why is the second half of the month so long? Will do test on day 26 (early one) as going to posh black tie function that evening, am staying in posh hotel in Auckland and is the first night DH and I have been out together without DS in 14 months!!!! Want to know if can have some wime at the 'do'.

quackers · 24/10/2003 21:03

Thanks Jems, looks like the anti biotics are working, she's had trouble breathing, but seems to be on the mend with her inhaler too, looks like our weeken dis on!!!
Good luck Jems!!! Hope its your turn soon!

CountessDracula · 25/10/2003 11:55

Thanks Podmog, it's nice to hear. Did you ever find out why you had a pph the first time? Was it a biggie?

Eulalia · 25/10/2003 12:57

I hope no-one minds me intruding onto this thread but I posted a question a few weeks back in the health section and got only a few responses ... thought someone here may be more knowledgeable - I've just cut and past the original question....

dd is 18 months old today and I STILL have no periods. I am still breastfeeding but at only about the same rate I did with ds and I got my periods back then when he was 13 months. dd co-sleeps and does latch on during the night but often when we get up it can run into late afternoon before she has another feed.

Does it take longer for periods to come back with a 2nd baby? Should I be worried? I have had no problems with fertility before. Got pregnant with ds 2 months after coming off the pill. dd was a one-off accident and we'd not been consciously trying. I don't want to get pregnant just now but don't like the thought that I could be infertile for some reason. I am worrying about early menopause but don't you get symptoms with that? I am 38 BTW. Is there any way I could determine my fertility without the obvious signs of a period? Any point in going to my GP - I can't see what she can do for me?

Thanks. BTW definately NOT pregnant.

Also one more question (while I am here) dh is fed up of using condoms. Wanted to go back on the pill when my periods came back and had settled down but sick of waiting. What happens if you go on the pill with no periods -do you still get withdrawal bleeding and how the hell am I to ever know when I will get a 'real' period??

Many thanks.

Eulalia · 26/10/2003 09:41

After all that worrying periods started this morning! 2.4 years since the last one - at least I have a party today to take my mind off the cramps

Jane101 · 26/10/2003 13:45

Thanks, quackers. I've got another week to go before I know. I can't believe it's worked - but who knows?

niknik, iui has worked for us before, which is why we're trying it again. As well as the missing tube, I've also got slight endometrios, but we have no idea why iui did the trick before. However, we tried for 4 years in total before getting pregnant with ds. I was on Clomid by itself for about 6 months that time - with no sucess. Iui (without clomid) worked on our 3rd attempt in April 2000. So this time we've gone straight for the iui and are on our 6th attempt.

It might be worth you just trying the clomid first - I don't know. I would definitely suggest iui before going for ivf if I were you. It's not too bad - not much worse than a smear test really and you don't have all the drugs that are involved in ivf. As I said, I have no idea why it worked for us - but it did, so it's worth a go.

Jemma7 · 27/10/2003 09:38
