Dr sara matthews or any other Recommendations for gynaecologist in London

Hi, I want to visit a gynae in London following a termination at 20 weeks due to a lethal condition, followed by a mc at 8 weeks. Have now been unsuccessful at getting pregnant (have had 3 pregs and got preg first month of trying). My nutritionist recommended dr Sara Matthews at the Portland hospital. Does anyone have any experience of her or anyone else I should look into instead? Thanks!

Am so sad to hear about your losses. I saw Sara three years ago due to problems conceiving, she is lovely caring doctor, however she never got to the bottom of why we weren't conceiving, she then went on maternity leave and I swapped to mr Trew at 92 harley street, who was recently rated by the times newspaper as one of the top 5 fertility doctors in the country. Mr Trew is very very thorough and methodical when investigating fertility problems and would highly recommend him.

Yes, Mr Trew performed a lap and hyst, during which he diagnosed and treated endometriosis. I got pregnant 3 weeks after that operation.

No, I self referred to Sara Matthews and then my GP referred me to Mr Trew when Sara went on maternity leave. I believe Mr Trew will accept self referrals though, let me see if I can find the bit on the 92 harley street website which explains the process for referral.

Just checked and it says on the 92 Harley Street website and it says

"Ideally you will need to be referred to us by a doctor but we can also accept a personal referral."

I assume this means a self referral, maybe give them a call. Did you know that your GP is not allowed to refuse you a private referral letter ? If you go to your GP and say you want a private referral they have to give you one.

Hello Ladies

Do you mind if I ask a quick question? How long do you have to wait for an appointment usually when you go private?

I'm going quietly crazy here as it is incredibly difficult to get anything done on the NHS given the fact that husband is not able to be flexible with his job during the week, not where I am, away for 3 - 4 months over the summer and er.......that about covers it. We could however, I'm pretty sure manage to convene in London on a given date provided it wasn't too far in advance (the other cracking bit of all of this is that he's currently prone to being dispatched to elsewhere at short/ no notice). Sorry, hence the question, I'm not just being impatient! I'm also feeling OLD at 36!!

Hi JRsandCoffee, usually you can get an appointment with Mr Trew at 92 Harley Street within a week. He only has a clinic there on a tuesday, whenever I've needed an appointment I've called up and managed to get one the following Tuesday. I'm not sure what his waiting times are to see him privately at Hammersmith IVF I'm afraid (which is the other place he holds a clinic)

I know exactly how you feel, its really hard to be patient, every week and month feels like a life time. I have to say that once I started getting treatment it did help, as at least you feel like you're doing something.

Thanks so much for all the info HL. I think a week must be about the norm. I booked an appt with Sara Matthews (before it occured to me to check her out a bit first!) and I got one in a week's time. The waiting is awful, but I told myself to wait until christmas before doing something about all of this and I certainly do feel a bit better now that I've set a few wheels in motion to hopefully help the situation. I have a relative who knows yehudi Gordon and she's finding out who he'd recommend so I'll let you know when she gets back to me x

p.s. JRsandCoffee I'm 39, so you're positively a spring chicken next to me and my creaking ovaries!

Hello, just quick update, following a rave recommendation from sis in law I've got an appt with yehudi Gordon at viveka next week. I'll tell him what's gone on and then he'll point me in the direction of the appropriate specialist within viveka. Good luck to others in a similar position x

Came across your thread while looking for reviews on Sara Matthews.
TTC 18 months after natural conception over 3 years ago. Now 39 and can therefore empathise with LucyLookout and your creaking ovaries!
After some tests incl bloods, scans and HSG, we appear to have "unexplained infertility". Tried IUI last month (with FSH injections and HCG trigger) - no success and going for 2nd try this month but realistically planning for IVF after Xmas. Struggling with trying to decide where to go and therefore v interested to read about KateTracey's experience with Sara Matthews. Can I ask where did you end up going and how you decided?
I have a friend who has had success with IVF on 2 different occasions at ARGC after failed attempts elsewhere. She really rates ARGC but does say their monitoring is very intense with bloods sometimes daily...and some controversial treatments incl immunoglobulins which all adds to the cost. It sounds like Sara Matthews is the other extreme. Now in real quandry...
Any other advice very gratefully received!
