TTC after recent miscarriage...your views/experiences wanted

Hi,
I have very recently suffered a miscarriage. I just wanted to know your views on TTC before next period. After speaking to my dr, I was basically told that waiting for next period is for dating purposes. Is there any medical reason for waiting? Are there any success stories from those that didn't wait?

Thanks x

I'm sorry for your loss. I have been advised that your mental state rather than physical state is the most important thing to consider here; if you're happy to try again, then go for it!

I'd second that. Unless you've been given a medical reason not to, and your dr seems okay with it, it's more about how you are feeling and how you're coping with the mc. I know for me TTC immediately would have been too soon as I was in bits, but everyone is different & there's a number of ladies on the MC and trying again thread who were successful on the first try!

Good luck :)

After my first m/c I did not wait, I got pregnant immediately and it was tough having the "LMP" date as the first day of the miscarriage through the whole pregnancy. It was emotionally tough as it is with any pregnancy following m/c. But the pregnancy was fine, no issues.

I have had 9 subsequent m/c's and I have to say, it really is a personal thing as to when to ttc again. Some of my m/c's hit me harder than others emotionally. But most of the time as soon as the bleeding stopped and I was ok, I have ttc straight away.

It is a personal decision, and only one that you can make as to if you are ready or not.

HI Francesca87

I am really sorry for your loss,

While trying to make the same decision as you, I found this very helpful

If you wait until your first AF you can be sure you have recovered physically from the mc and there are no further complications.

This describes what those complications could be.

You should definitely do a home pregnancy test and only TTC if you get a negative. Pregnancy hormones can linger - or even rise if there is a post mc problem like retained tissue - so you need to be able to distinguish between a new pregnancy and a post mc problem if you get a BFP.

If you are going to TTC before your first AF I really recommend you chart and use OPK's to work out when you ovulate. After an mc your are likely to worry about any further pregnancy and will probably want an early scan for reassurance. If your dates arent correct the first thing that will happen is that you will be told your pregnancy doesnt look viable as it is the "wrong size for dates" - not what you will want to hear!

Hope you recover well and get your BFP soon,

take care.
