Hi ladies, I'd be really grateful for some info. I have a DS who is amazing and very much loved and I would love to give him a little bro or sis. It took us a loooong time to conceive him - and during the process I found out that I have PCOS. I had been referred to a fertility clinic but before I got to the appointment I found out I was pregnant. So, now I'm TTC again - since November - but with the certain knowledge I have PCOS and may have difficulty conceiving again. Ideally I want to minimize the age gap between my kids (assuming I ever get pregnant again!). I've seen Clomid mentioned on here but I don't know what it is other than that some with PCOS take it and it can help. Can someone explain it to me and whether it's something I can ask my GP for or whether I need to go to a FC (which may take a while). I have ridiculous cycles by the way. I had 2 periods in the year before I got pregnant with DC1. In the 6 months since I stopped BFing DS I have had 1 period - and that was two months ago (and yes I have taken loads of pregnancy tests since!).

Thx! RTL

Hi,

In my experience (PCOS too) I had to get it from FC & it's aim is to make your ovaries produce an egg by working over time. Apparently it made me ovulate but the bean didn't stick!

Good Luck

Yes, as fairy said - clomid stimulates your ovaries to ovulate. And that is generally the problem with PCOS. Almost always it is prescribed by a FC, as it needs close monitoring. There is a risk of hyper-stimuation and twins.

So you would need a GP referral to a FC again. They will probably want to do various tests again before the referral goes off, and it can take a few months.

I am on my second cycle of clomid at the moment. Tests showed it worked to make me ovulate first month, so waiting to see if something permanent happens with it!

Get down to the doc and push for something to happen!!

Good luck x

do you have to be a couple to get Clomid?

what if you are using a sperm donor and have PCOS?
