I've been wondering about all this twiglett. I have just come off the pill and was wondering if I ought to think about something like this so will be interested in any answers you get.

The benefits for me is that I already had the persona as a contraceptive, so I just carried on using it when I wanted to get pregnant. Think it's about £10 for 6 sticks, but of course, the initial outlay is quite a lot (I forget how much now) and you have to use double the amount of sticks the first month.

I think if you already have a persona for contraception use, then you might as well carry on using it. Otherwise I wouldn't bother and would take a closer look at clearblue.

Persona is £65, sticks are £9.99 for 8 ( you get these included for the first month). I already had it so and used it for ttc, which was succesful in the first month as it has been for a few in the last couple of months. It's like Clearblue but it reads the result for you and tells you if you are about to ovulate by reading the level of LH. I find it better as most do as it's first am wee and not afternoon after holding a wee for 4 hours. Also, if you;re unsure about the line Persona tells you either way, as Clearblue it';s your own judgement. I love my persona but may not have bought if I have hadn't have had it already, think I would chart my BBT. Hope this helps!!

Oh there's also a thread 'Anyone ready to give their Persona Kit Away' further down, that should be useful too!

Azure · 28/08/2003 18:24

I chose the horribly expensive Persona over Clearblue because of the inconvenience of OPKs (holding the wee, testing at work, etc). It somehow seems more scientific being in a little white box and giving a read-out. If you're happy with Clearblue and are familiar enough with your cycle - which it sounds like you are - I see no reason to switch. Can't imagine using Persona as a contraceptive - all that hassle (and risk, if you're definitely not TTC).

GeorginaA · 28/08/2003 18:29

Ooops ... yes 8 not 6, you're right quackers, I can't count!

Twiglett, I used Persona because if you are ttc for a longer time it works out cheaper (and yes, we did succeed in the end - but after 13 cycles both for dd1 and for dd?2, who is due in November). But I'm still hoping to sell my Persona soon, as I certainly wouldn't want to rely on it as contraception - would be just my luck after ttc for so long to have a 3rd child as a "surprise" .

twiglett - really, Clearblue first thing? Maybe it was the Boots brand that specifically said not first thing. Oh well, I've spent my money now.

quackers · 29/08/2003 10:04

Ys I used Boots and it was 4 hours of holding a wee - urgh!

I thought ovulation was around day 14 though if you have a 28/29 day cycle

This months question from me. I am normally asked to test on day 6 then on day 11 - it is now day 13 and I have had another red light and still haven't had my second testing day this month. Is this normal?

quackers · 10/10/2003 08:44

Hi Louli, I always have had ov sign day 11 and 12 but it has now gone all the way up to 18/19. I think it's just the cycles go sometimes, friends tell me theirs change now and again. Just as long as you get your surge then I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. See your gp if you are worried though.

louli · 16/11/2003 21:09

Another month and me again. It is now day 22 and still no 'O' and what is really strange is that it has been red all month since my fisrt test day on day 6. I rand persona and got no where - does anyone have any ideas?
