TTC while breastfeeding - Part 2

This is the place to come to share the frustrations of ttc while still nursing.

Many of us are sleep-deprived, some of us don't even know if we're ovulating and none of us know whether taking agnus castus is a good idea or not. We all just want to do the best by the children we already have, but would really like to be pregnant again. Quickly.

Part 1 had plenty of graduates . Here's hoping Part 2 will be equally successful and supportive!

Fab news Dreamfeeder! Grin How far along do you think you are? Really, really chuffed for you.

Loopy - I am also a IFA - how spooky! Who'd have thought there were two breastfeeding, trying to get up the duff advisers around! Smile

I still have a week and a half to wait to find out how we did this month. It feels a bit like waiting for exam results. And as I do when I wait for actual exam results, I start off quietly confident I did enough to pass, but slowly lose confidence as I get closer to results day. Sad

Good luck to everyone for those BFPs...

BartletForAmerica · 18/08/2011 12:51

Great news, dreamfeeder. Congratulations!

jaggythistle · 18/08/2011 13:28

I know that feeling duke - I am totally there now! 8dpo so only 4 or 5 days to wait.

Although I am so tempted to early test due to being on the no brooking thread!

Loooopy · 18/08/2011 14:14

lol duke i've not had to sit one for a while, all ready for RDR, but still remember that feeling of logging on to see if it is a P or not :) and yes, very similar emotions!

fingers crossed there will be a few more BFP's on here soon, sounds like there are a few in the running!

Grumpygils · 18/08/2011 19:07

Congratulations Dreamfeeder Grin!

ok, so having now read up a bit on how to try to get pregnant as we didn't have to think about it with DS as he came along the first time we tried (thanks to those who pointed me in the right direction) i now understand that there is a temperature rise at the point of ovulation and a surge in LH. I also know that it is possible for people to fall pregnant before they have had a period. I haven't had a period since having DS but (sorry if TMI) i have been very dry since having him, but this last few weeks things seem to be almost back to normal and no longer dry. So i'm now wondering whether i might ovulate soon. Would it be a waste of time/money to try and start taking temperature and buying/using the cheap LH tests or should i try and be patient and just wait until i have a period?

I guess my main concern is that i love red meat, dippy eggs, halloumi and i don't mind drinking booze once DS has had his last feed of the night, but the minute we decided to try for DS, i cut out all of these "just in case" which proved a wise move given how quick he was conceived! So part of me is thinking, well if i fell pregnant straight away last time, what if i fall pregnant as quickly this time and before i've even had my period and i've been eating the wrong things/drinking, but then part of me thinks that i might as well have these things whilst i can as probably highly unlikely that it'd happen as quickly the second time!

thoughts please?

dreamfeeder · 19/08/2011 10:20

looopy I'd eat the lot- would be Timing Couldn't Be Worse and therefore will increase your chances of pregnancy astronomically!!! I haven't eaten the right things or taken folic acid- timing couldn't be worse= bfp!!!! Do you like my scientific method?! I was also very dry after DD Blush and then dropped a feed suddenly, got some CM then AF and back to normal. Either Futility Fiend or the Kellymom website said something like if your DC is under 12 months you're more likely to have a period first, and if they're over 12 months, more likely to ov first. However that certainly doesn't mean you couldn't be about to ovulate.

Whats the problem with red meat? and when was the last time you got salmonella from a dippy egg? If you're buying eggs from the supermarket and eating them within their date I think it's exceedingly unlikely you could get it. My sister is a vet and has informed me about vaccination for chickens against salmonella- as in all supermarkets buy eggs from vaccinated chickens. However, i get my eggs from a neighbour who keeps unvaccinated chickens- and was getting a lecture from my sis on it!!

the other ttc thread I'm on (Brooking no argument) have all discussed OPK's and it seems for a lot of people they didn't give many answers, no clear indication of ov and just increased the stress. I was still thinking about them, but i was more tempted by the clear blue fertility monitor AKA Shag Dictator. however, FX i won't need either now Grin

I didn't have much difficulty last time- one early mc then DD, and took 5 months this time, and one full cycle. I'm feeling sooooooooooo lucky

jaggythistle · 19/08/2011 10:27

BFP for me too Shock Shock Shock

dreamfeeder · 19/08/2011 10:44

Hooray jaggy, big HOORAY!!!!!!!

flaminglip · 19/08/2011 11:53

Are we mad??

My beautiful DS3 is but 7 months old and yet we are both TTC like mad, I'm breastfeeding, maybe 4 times during the day - I have no idea if I'm ovulating or what. Also, I'm 40yo. I feel my fertility drifting away from me.

What are the chances?

Loooopy · 19/08/2011 14:17

congratulations to jaggy and re eggs dreamfeeder we have our own chickens acquired from various sources so not a clue if vaccinated or not - and it was the thing i missed most when pregnant - especially as i'd be reminded each time i went out to the garden to collect the eggs!

duke748 · 19/08/2011 19:21

Jaggy - OMG! Congratulations! I'm so pleased for you! It goes to show even us BFers can get up the duff! Woo hoo! Two on our thread in as many days!

So you got your BFP 10 DPO? I am currently only 4 DPO so I really need to be patient, but might try on 10 DPO as it worked for you! Can you do a post like Dreamfeeder saying what you did/didn't do this month that you think might have helped (apart from the obvious!)

Loopy - I'd also eat all of those foods, but add some vits to the mix.

Flaminglip - are you mad? Nope! What are your chances? Oh, that's the million dollar question! If only we all knew that! Only one way to find out. Good luck with it all.

dreamfeeder · 19/08/2011 20:52

I think I'm 5 weeks. Enormously strong positive lines on tests that show up before even the control, and last period would make me 5 weeks.

This month DH and I:

  1. did the Shagathon from CD9 to CD 21.... (with 2 nights off)
  2. used Pre-seed which has amazing but probably made up excellent reviews on amazon

I will continue eating more things than last time- last time i tried to refuse soft yolked poached eggs on toast my mum had made and she made such a fuss and told me not to be ridiculous so i ate them... and worried less from then about eggs!! But no blue cheese/brie/ pate (going to miss that now i'm a meat-eater!!)

dreamfeeder · 19/08/2011 20:52

and good luck to you flaminglip!!! no idea either Grin

Goldrill · 19/08/2011 21:01

wow - well done ladies and many congratulations!

You're giving the rest of us hope! (but not me as have been mega busy at work and not SWI for two weeks Blush. Poor DP!)

duke748 · 19/08/2011 21:01

Wow! Shagathon sounds great Dreamfeeder - wish we could do that - but he's not here most of the time!

Does BF feel any different? And if so, did it before the BFP?

jaggythistle · 19/08/2011 21:16

duke i actually got a faint one on the afternoon of 9dpo. Shock i didn't get one till 11dpo last time.

eh, this month...
stuck to SWI every other day and not concentrating/stressing too much at ov time. i did get a positive on an opk and forced persuaded DH into SWI about 3 days in a row. i cut down drinking a bit. didn't use preseed much as i used it up the other 10 months!

the main difference for me i guess was trying to change DS's feeding pattern. i only did it for a few weeks so not sure if it actually helped. i stopped his early morning feed, then realised I'd have to not do the occasional night ones too.

I'd read that some people have higher prolactin levels when Bfing, which might hinder implantation. as levels are highest during the night and early morning, i figured maybe the big morning feed was making a difference.
it obviously doesn't make a difference for everyone as lots seem to get pg while night feeding!

of course it could just be a coincidence!

Mackrelmint · 19/08/2011 22:24

Congratulations df and jaggy!!! amazing news -especially exciting to have two bfps on the thread so close together. Hope all goes well for you both x

Grumpygils · 19/08/2011 22:25

Congratulations Jaggy Grin.

If I'm right and I did ovulate on Monday, than I think I have the world's shortest luteal phase, as have just had a few v mild cramps and now have a small amount of bright red bleeding for the first time since my youngest was born. I don't think it could be implantation, as seems far too dramatic for that.

I guess I'd better dig out my thermometer and start charting properly.

BartletForAmerica · 20/08/2011 12:03

Congratulations again, jaggy.

My DS has been waking early and going downstairs to play with DH until milk time. He's not been wanting milk before he came back upstairs for it, so we've dropped that feed the last couple of days and he's just getting a cup of milk. Only one feed a day now. Surely that will get things going!

jaggythistle · 20/08/2011 12:36

If I wasn't at work I'd probably have just fed him later on when he has his nap instead to be honest. I'm still not sure how I feel about the fact he doesn't have a proper feed any more. Just one or two latch on for 30 seconds goes really! he's 2 next month so I know he'll be fine and am glad it's been gentle for him, but I was somehow convinced it was keeping his wee tummy happy or something.

Fingers crossed I will have another wee guzzler to think about in the not too distant future though... Shock

Nope, still can't believe it.

duke748 · 20/08/2011 16:11

Hi grumpy!

I OVed on Monday too. Fingers crossed the bleeding is implantation bleeding. Keep us updated. If it is AF, then look into taking some B bits to lengthen your luteal phase.

I feel sick and tired today (5 dpo) and am hoping that's a good sign, rather than just a lack of sleep and not eating right!

Hope all of you newly up-duffed ladies are resting as much as possible with a LO and being spoilt just a litle bit by your DP/DHs.

Fingers crossed for the rest of us. Grin

Grumpygils · 21/08/2011 22:33

Hi Duke

Definitely AF, sadly. However I'm now starting to wonder whether I did in fact ov or not. It's not really practical for me to temp chart at the moment, as DC3 wakes in the night still so I don't get an untinterrupted stretch.

Hoping your tiredness/sickness is a good sign Smile.

duke748 · 21/08/2011 23:05

Hi Grumpy. I found the same, temping doesn't work as I sleep for about 3 hours at a time if I'm lucky! Also, I am straight to DS as soon as I'm awake, couldn't faff about in bed taking my temp while he cried!

I am using a Clearblue Fertiity Monitor. I'd recommend it. Its expensive, but you know you're definately OVing and when. My problem is getting my man here when 'computer says yes' as he works away during the week! But that's another story. Grin

duke748 · 21/08/2011 23:58

Hi ladies. Thought i'd share a great site for obsessing researching.

CDTP

It's got stats on which brand of pregnancy test works best and % of positives/false negatives at different days past ovulation.

I am currently browsing through pics of tests where people have voted positive or negative. I'm not sure this is the best way to pass the 2ww, but it's fun!
