quick history......
had ny second mc in April. after that periods have been 6 weeds then every 4. I'm now a week late. I did a cheapy test last monday which was -ve. No real symptoms other than feeling a bit tired.
my FSh levels were high after the mc and the following 2 periods & I was led to believe that my periods could become more erratic (which they have never been before) I've been having acupuncute but haven't been for a fortnight.
I desperatly want to be pg again. I'm scared to retest incase its -ve again which would mean I proably am pre menopausal (I'm 40) & I'm scaed incase its +ve beacuse I couldn't face a 3rd Mc.
what to do??

Oaktree - So sorry you're going through all this angst. The only way to know is to test again though..... probably not what you want to hear!

There are loads of older Mums here.... and you're only 40, not over the hill yet!!

Oaktree - That is a very extreme reason as to why you are AF could be late! Have you been told you may go through early menapause? Or did your Mum go through it early? If not, then I think that 40 is a bit young for all that. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation..... my AF has been a week late before and I'm only 27.

There is also a chance that you are pregnant and the tests are not picking up the HCG hormone. There are lots and lots of reasons why this could be happening. Look at those first before you assume that you are menapausal.

Also, oaktree you had a m/c only 5 months ago and your body takes time to recover from that. Please don't give up.

Bump. Are you there oaktree?

toothache you are such a star to have replied to me.
Affter the 2nd mc my FSh was intially very high (17) then it was 13 when I had a second period after that. they wouldn't retest again. that was 3 periods ago.
my mum didn't have the menopause until she was 50 ( as far as I know).
I probably am being a drama queen but that is the only explanation I can think of. surely if by some miracle I was Pg then it wouldn't be good sign anyway to still get a BFN 10 days late?
am debating what to do next. should I go to teh DR, or pay through teh nose for another acupunctute appt (which I hate) which might bring my period on - it seemed to do so once before.
sorry for waffling at you - I just feel abit all over teh place today.

Oaktree - But if your cycles have been a bit erratic since your miscarriages how do you know your AF is actually late??

Your state of mind can strongly affect your periods. If I am very worried about getting my period at a particular time, then it is generally late. Similarly, we've been TTC for several months now, and my periods have become more erratic because every time I get queasy just before it's due I start wondering whether I'm pg, and often that makes me late as well.

Considering how far apart your periods have been, and that they have only just returned to normal, then 10 days is not really very late, and it could well be influenced by your state of mind. It's difficult to do, I know, but try not to think about it, give yourself another week or so before you even consider re-testing.

Don't worry about the menopause. It does tend to run in families, so it's unlikely that you're anywhere near it yet! (I confess that the same thoughts have gone through my mind this year, but I keep reassuring myself that my mum went through it at over 50, so I'm not near it yet either.)

oh good grief how anal must i sound??!!!
I think the reason for me worrying is that my periods have always been 28 days on the dot, regardless of any other trauma/stress. I knew straight away with all 3PGs (the successful one and the 2 mc) as I tested +ve only 1 day late.
after this second mc my first period was 6 weesk then back to 4 weeks again in may/june/july & august.
I appreciate what you're saying really i do, its just so out of character for me. do you think it's worth going to the DR or shouldI leave it?

Oaktree - At this stage I think the GP would probably just repeat a pregnancy test. What tests are you using? Could they be faint +ve's?

I would go buy a clearblue digital and find out, the not knowing is usually worse than knowing one way or the other.

I hope you get the result you want x

You don't sound anal - you sound anxious.

I really don't know what to suggest, you do seem to have covered all the bases. I still think stress may be part of it. I've only ever actually missed a period - other than being pregnant - twice in my life, once was during my A-levels, but the other time there was no apparent reason for it. Luckily I wasn't having sex at that time, or I would have been terribly worried. Then I had a perfectly normal period at exactly the time I would have expected to have it had I not missed one.

I hope someone can come up with something for you. But in the meantime do try to find something that will help you take your mind off it. You've such a lot on your shoulders, what with recovering from the miscarriage, that this is quite a burden.

quick update - went to dr - retested adn got a BFN ( as expected). she didn't suggest any reasons for ir. tried to emphasis how out of character this is for me but she seemed completely oblivious to that & just told me to come back in a week if Af doesn't appear. so now am sat here waiting and really cursing my stupid body for not even being able to make AF come ontime never mind anything else. thanks for all the messages. xx
