Variable cycle length when TTC

I have been TTC our third for about 8 months now. I know we are very lucky to have children, and from much lurkage am well aware that there are lots of people on TTC threads who are struggling to conceive their first, but I think having problems TTC is hard for anyone.

I have been checking my cycle and have realised that it is very variable - from 21 days (yes really) to a mega 49 days.

Does anyone else have this as its new to me - have been under the illusion that I have the 28 day cycle of my yoof. I am trying to work out how much of a problem this might be and, if its a big problem, what I can do about it. I know GPs don't want to see you until you have been TTC for a year and am not sure if we would qualify for any assistance anyway.

I think there can be loads of reasons why your cycles might be irregular, but if it's a new thing (it sounds like they were very regular when you were younger?) then you should go and chat to your GP about it and tell them you're TTC.

Are you monitoring your fertility signs in any other way, e.g. taking morning temperatures, using an OPK etc? Your GP will probably want as much info as possible. My cycle was regular when I was younger, which makes me sound ancient, but I guess at 35 I am considered old to be TTC .

I guess the reason it makes me worried is that we have been very lucky previously and conceived very quickly (sorry, I know its not tactful to say that). Am just concerned that the reason its taking so much longer this time is due to the change in my cycle.

Have never needed to monitor my fertility before, due to regular cycles/ov pain, and looking at the cycle length has been a start I guess in trying to understand what is going on. Must not google it - that only leads to extra worries on what the problem may be.

And did I really write yoof? Teach me to read before I post!

Are you going to your GP? If your cycles have been regular as clockwork, and you've conceived easily in the past, I would go to the GP asap to start investigations (and avoid Googling!)
