IS it possible to have EWCM at two different points in a single cycle?

I'd pretty much decided that I'd ovulated last week, as the timing would have made sense and I had two days of EWCM. Completely dried up since then - until today. AF should be turning up next week. Is there a chance that I got it wrong - or that I've ovulated twice?? Can EWCM show up twice over the course of two weeks, with a dry spell in between?

I have read that this is possible if you experience a period of stress just as your body is trying to ovulate. It effectively gives up and tries again a bit later - hence the two lots of EWCM.

I also notice that I often gets a second short batch (a day's worth) of EWCM about three to four days before my period starts. No idea what causes it, but it occurs most months.

This happened to me this past month as well. So had EWCM and thought I was ovulating so did the deed around that time, had a dry spell and then about a week later had EWCM again. Was a bit confused so focused on doing the deed again around this time and am now wondering what the outcome is. The second lot of EWCM appeared about a week ago, a week before I thought AF might be due (had thought AF was due about now but I've never been regular so it's a bit hard to tell...). So am not completely sure if I am late now or if AF isn't due for another week and a bit.

Regardless, I hope the outcome is like yours buttonmoon78! Did you have sex around the second EWCM phase and is that when you think you conceived? Congrats!

Sorry - my post makes no sense.

My comments relate to your last question. As I understand it, it is not possible for you to have ovulated twice (or super unlikely - there are always exceptions!) but it is possible for your body to have tried to ovulate and not managed it so tried again. If you have the Toni Weschler book "Taking charge of your fertility" then she talks a bit about it. Look under "cervical fluid" and then "stress".

But, as I say, I also experience a further bit of EWCM close to my period, when ovulation is definitely over and done with. No idea what causes it.

I get the same as RedQueen (a bit of ewcm right before my period). It's only happened since I've had children though.

Yes, that's exactly what I've had. Odd. I think I get the same as you, RQ. Probably no harm in trying again tonight, if DH is up to it..!

Do the deed quite a lot anyway - DH thinks he's short-changed if it's not pretty regular!

I must have OVd the first time as otherwise the pg test could not possibly have picked it up.

So I don't know where the second lot came from!

Can i ask...is it possible to get EWCM when you have a Mirena coil?? (i've had it in for 14 months)... i have over the last few days had what looks like EWCM (only a small amount)...not sure if i've just not noticed this before or if i'm noticing now that i'm reading about all this stuff...but i'm just curious if anyone knows...thanks x

I never had it - my Mirena was in for 3 yrs 3 months.

Are you sure your coil is there? I only ask because when mine was taken out it came out far easier than it should have done apparently.

They say that if it's going to 'fall' out it'll happen within the first few weeks but gp said it needed 'no encouragement at all' to come free and could have come out with my next AF anyway.

Reassuring? I think not!

I actually have never checked it but recently had another laparoscopy for endometriosis in September and all was well. I tend not to fiddle down there too much as it's still painful...but was just curious...lots of people seem to be having other symptoms of periods etc...and some people still bleed with it...i've not had a period since last November...i do ocassionally get sore boobs and random pelvic pain but the pelvic pain could be down to endometriosis though...

I've just tried to check but can't feel any strings?! Confused...i think i'll try and book a drs appointment for next week just to make sure it's ok...i don't have any other complaints other than i think i've recently had EWCM...and my boobs have been slighlty sore this week...

I had it last month for the first time, mid cycle then again days before af due, i got a bfp but ended up being a chemical pregnancy.

buttonmoon78 - went to the drs thurs...she can't find the strings either...TMI coming up...apparently there's too much discharge for her to see in there and she can't feel them...i have a bacterial infection down there so she's given me meds and wants to see me back Mon so she can have another look if discharge has cleared...if she can't find them she'll refer me back to gyne and book an ultrasound to locate it...eek! Hmm...

She found them - finally!!! Yippee...and no infection...yippee!!! Apparently the strings are VERY tiny...phew though!!! She wants me to have it checked every year! I said that hopefully it'll be coming out next year! :o)

Hi, Old thread- but I read about this in TCOYF last night as I am in this boat... Apparently it is quite common caused by the oestrogen rise towards the end of the cycle.

Hope everyone got what they wanted!

I'm still waiting for a positive, having been diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year. Am currently on Metformin, keeping everything crossed...

I know this thread is really old and probably no one checks it any more, but just in case, wanted to say thanks to everyone participating. Got a bit worried (read: panicky) about currently experiencing two lots of EWCM (I never really looked before so I don't know if it's normal for me)... but the second one is just before my period and there's much less of it. This thread has helped me to relax. :)

reviving this old thread to see if anyone has had EWCM twice in one cycle but the second one wasn't right before period?

my cycles are pretty regular and tests have shown all is ok but this month I've had EWCM ano day 8 - only one day after I stopped spotting. I'm really confused about it and can't find much about probable causes for it online
