Week wait astro as in 2 week wait- the time from ovulation and SWI (shagging with intent) to possible AF-period if not pregnant or `BFP (big fat positive) if pregnant!

We make it all very complicated!

How long have you been with your partner? When did you first mention children? What did he say? Sorry for being nosy! :)

PS I am a vet! Lovely to have someone on here in the same business!

strawberrypie · 24/11/2010 22:05

x-posted ! oops!

squirrel007 · 24/11/2010 22:18

Hi all! It's been busy on here today! Welcome astro and satsuma :)

astro have you and your DH talked at all about having kids in the past? I can see how it might take him time to come round to the idea. Maybe you can make some time to talk about it without any pressure for a definite answer either way, just find out what you both are thinking on the subject.

bebe sorry to hear about your DH's nephew, must be worrying for you :(

whywait and 100years hope the symptom spotting isn't driving you too mad! It's so hard not to pay more attention than usual.

nannyl exciting news about officially ttc!

Hi to everyone else [waves]

TaylorSatsuma · 24/11/2010 22:51

bebe In relation to PGCE, huge respect for people doing it with young children! I know a few people who have and I'm sure you know this already but my goodness it's hard work. Having said that - some people find PGCE harder than your NQT (probation) year, others are the other way round. I'm in the latter category... NQT year was hardest thing I've ever done! On the plus side I have now been at my school for well over a year so am entitled to all the maternity benefits, and it will be nice when we finally have DCs to have the holidays off. Plus it is sooo much easier this year (I didn't believe anyone who told me last year it would get better, but it does) and I'm actually starting to enjoy it.

Hope that's okay... just thought I'd throw in my teacherly twopennorth of experience!!

bebejones · 25/11/2010 08:37

Taylor - I am under no illusion that it will be easy!! Because of having to have a year PGCE & a year NQT & then working as well it's why I want to wait til after I have children now. I don't want to start & get a job & then leave straight away IYSWIM? My biggest issue at the moment is what area to teach! (I come from a family of teachers) I think I want to teach Primary but my Uncle (who is a teacher) keeps telling me I should train as a Secondary teacher & then I can switch when qualified but can't do it the other way round! [Confused] Not convinced myself!!

Astro - agree that you really need to chat (I know, I know! Pot, kettle, black! Hmm) You need to spell it out to them I think & also need to find out what is going on in his mind, for all you know he could be worried about you & that's what his sticking point is!

Suppose I had better go & get DD up, it's so cold & icy here & I want to stay in my PJs, but have to go & move the car off the road before the traffic warden shows up! Angry

Wow, there's been a lot of stuff for me to catch up on this morning.

No snow here yet, but it is imminent apparently. My parents town (1.5 hours from here) was on the national news this morning covered in snow! Mum tells me she'll be at the wedding even if she has to hire a tractor!!! I hope everyone else makes it.

Welcome to Astro and Taylor, nice to see some new faces :)

Bebe, i hope your nephew is ok.
Not sure if it helps but my uncle was diagnosed with MS at the age of about 30. He is now past 60, retired and living life to the full. As far as i know he has the occasional relapse but manages to get around fine and doesn't appear to have too many issues with it.

WYorksLass · 25/11/2010 09:24

Also meant to say...

100years, your symptoms sound very promising. I have my fingers crossed for you and WW.

nanny, how exciting. Do you mind saying what CD you are on? I am on CD 3. We could have things happening around the same time.

Oooooh Hot Chocolate! YUM! :)

Was a very crowded train last night! Wink

No snow here, bloody cold though!

It's been snowing on and off here most of the morning. Very light and not sticking though!

I appear to have eaten a large, hot sausage roll before my buttie. I think this healthy eating lark will have to wait until we get back from Honeymoon Grin

Sadly no snow here either... I'm a bit of a romantic and like the way it makes every look clean and pretty! (and the school shutting last year wasn't a bad thing either Grin)

bebe Hope you didn't think I was being patronising - I think your plan is very sensible! That's why we've waited until now to start TTC, because I didn't want to go off straight after NQT year. Your uncle's right that you can switch to primary but not the other way around - from a mercernary point of view, too, depending on what subject you teach you get a bigger bursary while training in secondary. I got £9k as I teach a shortage subject, plus a £2.5k golden hello (sadly taxable so ended up rather a lot less than that!) at the beginning of my second year. There are also more places on secondary courses I think. Partly depends on where in the country you are, in terms of how easy it is to get a job. Having said all that, you've got to enjoy what you're doing, so just do whatever your heart tells you (at the risk of sounding cheesy!) - I'm sure you probably know a lot about it if your family are teachers so just go with what you will enjoy most. Can you do some observation in both primary and secondary? I spent a couple of days in my old school before deciding which really helped.

WYorksLass Hope snow holds off to let everyone get to the wedding! I'm sure they'll all make it, it takes a lot to keep people away from weddings. When is it? (sorry am a bit behind)

I really should brave the cold and go out... Want to do some relaxing baking today (I have been signed off work for a week so need to relax...)

WYorksLass · 25/11/2010 13:46

Thanks Taylor, i'm sure it will be ok! The wedding is this Saturday.

Funnily enough, when we chose the date i mentioned that it would be nice if it snowed and my OH and Dad both said. "Don't be silly, it won't snow in November!" I'm getting my own back now!

Ooops, sorry WW, didn't mean to set you off thinking about junk food!

The snow has stopped and it's lovely and sunny here now. Bitterly cold though!

squirrel007 · 25/11/2010 14:26

No snow here today, just ice and freezing weather. Had to put extra layers on this morning to get to work. I would love a hot choc with a flake and cream and marshmallows right now!!

Am feeling a bit sick today :( makes up for feeling fine yesterday I guess! At least it's the weekend soon so I can rest :) we're off to the ILs and will tell them about the pg so I will get spoiled.

bebejones · 25/11/2010 15:09

Taylor - don't be silly, didn't think you were patronising at all! It's really helpful getting opinions of people who have been through it recently! I find all the golden handshake/funding stuff very confusing! My 'area' (ie what my BA is in) is Textiles, although I think I'd maybe have Art specialism too. My Uncle suggested doing DT, but I'm not sure if I could...power tools scare me!! :o I just think personality wise I'd be far better at a Primary level. Such a lot to consider though!
Hope you are feeling better soon :)

WYorks - hope you have something warm to put on over your dress!!

Squirrel - hope you have a good time with ILs

nannyl · 25/11/2010 17:20

evening all
wyorks i really hope everyone and everything can make it safely to your wedding

Im currently on day -9! (ie 9 infertile days left this cycle and starting to TTC in next cycle)

Ooh its been cold in Yorkshire today... not sure if it ever made it above freezing (i doubt it did TBH) and we did have snow mid morning, so the children were very excited.

I drew the short straw and was the teacher supervising outdoor play today (we HAVE to offer it in all weathers except for very strong winds!) so i froze, even with ski jacket, hat scarf and gloves. It amazes me how the children just dont care though, and happily play regardless!

I have come home to what smells like a really delicous pork and apple casserole cooking in my oven (hooray now i have an oven WITH a timer) and am waiting for OH to get in from his driving lesson so we can eat it.

Back later!

MrsSatsuma · 25/11/2010 17:43

Have changed my name as it's easier to type! nannyl I'm jealous - I spend most of my time trying to kick the kids out of our school buildings! Teenagers must be related to vampires - they seem to have an aversion to light... and coats... yep, even in this weather...

Am feeling better as have been out of the house (only to corner shop but still better than nothing!) and made muffins for DH to say thank you for putting up with me (I won't bore you with details but see thread in mental health section... mm I wish they'd changed the name of that to something with a bit less of a stigma!!)

squirrel Hope the sickness gets better soon and that you enjoy being spoiled!

Can someone send the snow down here please? That way wyorks and nannyl will warm up and DH will get time off work when schools close! See, everyone's happy! :o

bebejones · 25/11/2010 18:39

Oh Satsuma - I read your other thread! :( I know what it can be like.
I would also like the snow to come southwards! Mainly because I'm a big kid!! :o

Nannyl - Casserole sounds amazing! I did sausages in apple & onion gravy for DH & DD...I had Soup! (Did have a piece of chocolate torte after though! But only a small piece! Hmm)

Everytime I think things are picking up & DH is being more positive & coming home with good news, he turns round 1/2 hour later with a bombshell of bad news! Hmm I'm sure he doesn't want to actually let himself be happy and stress free! :(

On a good(ish) note, nephew seems to be fighting whatever it is making him poorly. Still not out of the woods yet.

Been checking AF dates & I think (if we TTC) I'll miss the Sept bus & will probably be on the Oct bus! I am keeping everything crossed. SWI would be around DHs birthday :o So I stand a good chance of persauding him! Wink

Oh my life HOW much catching up I have to do!

Back later. Welcome Astro and MrsSatsuma!

nannyl · 25/11/2010 20:18

oooh im even more excited now

when doing my amazon Xmas shopping i decided to by myself a present and added my pregnancy journal to my list

OH gave me the post just now and it has arrived and is just gorgous Smile

But i dont want to tempt fate so wont be writing anything in it until im lucky enough to be pregnant!!!!

AstroZola · 25/11/2010 20:44

strawberrypie - hi - nice to have a vet on...i agree...it's nice to have somebody in our line of work to talk to also...we've been together over 6 years, we flippantly mentioned kids in the past but i never wanted them so it is a shock for him to now consider having one...i only mentioned it to him at the end of October...when i first mentioned it he said 'oh god'...but listened well to what i had to say and agreed to think about it...

squirrel007 & WhyWait- i have spoken briefly to him and said we'll have another chat about it after xmas...he's fine with chatting again then...i've also convinced him to talk to our friend Mike...he's my best friends husband and she mentioned it might be good for DP to chat to someone about being a dad too...so thanks for all the advice so far...this is a lovely forum! Smile

bebe - i never thought of that...thank you and your most recent post made me laugh - the one about SWI!! ha ha x

nannyl - that's sounds amazing...i want one now...

strawberrypie · 25/11/2010 20:54

That book looks lovely Nannyl!

Will your OH get any time off over xmas bebe? Does he do anything that helps him relax? Squash or going for a walk or watching films?

Hope you feel better soon satsuma, my OH has just done his PGCE and is doing supply work at the moment- he is finding it really stressful. I can't think of another job where you get constant abuse and you just have to put up with it!

AstroZola · 25/11/2010 21:08

oh MrsSatsuma - i read your thread too...so sorry to hear you're having such a hard time...i do hope you feel better soon...i know it can be difficult to cope with...not that i've suffered with it...but my Mum has...i remember seeing her suffer a panic attack in the bedroom when i was younger...it looked very frightening...i had to get her a paper bag to breath into...have you tried this technique by the way? (i'm sure you have)...glad you got some air today....

on that note...i hate the snow...i really don't want it to come to Wales...it's so horrible, dangerous, awkward and very cold :o(

AstroZola · 25/11/2010 21:10

that was supposed to be a sad face! Sad

strawberrypie · 25/11/2010 21:10

Hi Astro! I think bebe is right- sometimes things need to be spelled out for the OHs and a proper discussion is a good idea so he knows how you feel. Also I can get frustrated when my OH does not respond immediately but he sometimes just needs to have a think and will come back with some real insights at a later time. So maybe a chat after xmas will give him some time to get his thoughts organised :)

Really good idea about talking to his dad friend too, he seems to be taking everything seriously!
