Internet cheapie OPKs didn't get a result for me in the last 2 months. Just wondering if I should splash out on a different type just for this month. If so, can you recommend one. Specifically if the cheapies didn't work for you, did you find another brand that did?

Thanks!!

What time did you test Terrys? I am on my 11th day of testing with internet cheapies and still no positive either.

I've heard it's possible to miss the surge, so maybe you've just got unlucky.

I don't think the expensive ones are any "better" as they all test for the presence of LH. It shouldn't matter if you get a fancy digital or a cheapy really.

But what do I know, I am yet to get a positive OPK myself!

I tested twice a day last month GetDown at 1pm and 7pm so surely that couldn't have missed. I heard they just don't work for some people but wondering if other brands do??

Not sure Terrys hopefully someone else will be along in a minute with more experience.

I don't know how long or short the surge can be, but maybe your surge could have happened between 1 and 7? Although, I agree that two a day should be enough... Maybe try experimenting with the time of day you do it? Also I presume you've been holding your wee for a good few hours and reducing fluid intake beforehand?

Did you get any other signs of ov i.e. mucus / temp shift?

TerrysNo2 · 15/11/2010 12:45

I get lots of EWCM days, last month was first of proper temping and I got a clear shift so knew when I OV-ed but obviously I want to know before!! Grin

Could it just have been a dodgy batch, Terrys? I used these. The non-branded ones at the top of the page. First month I did two a days but as I got two days of positives I then only did one a day this month. Found the pos OPK correlated with cervical position and openness as well.

TerrysNo2 · 15/11/2010 13:02

LadyG maybe a dodgy batch but is that likely??

How do you check your cervix, I have been checking mine for CM but it always seems to be in the same position!!

LadyG got any left you want to sell on now!?!? Wink

I might after have some to sell after the all clear! You have to check it same time of day (as apparently it moves during day!). I normally do mine first thing in the morning, sat on loo after my wee! It is normally low early in cycle i.e. you can find it really easily. Towards ov it will start to rise so you'll sort of have to stretch up further to find it. Then it will go from firm (like tip of nose) to soft/a bit mushy feeling (like your lips).

You may also feel it open near ov. As I have had a vaginal birth mine always feels a little bit open. Sort of like a little slit. But near ov it kind of gapes to let the sperm through so you almost feel you could push into it (sorry if TMI but this is Conception!).Grin

I didn't use my cervix first month as couldn't seem to get it but on second month I found it was really helpful to cross check against the other signs.

TerrysNo2 · 15/11/2010 13:46

ok, that is very helpful. Mine always has the little slit (TMI warning already known on here!! Grin) but I don't notice it moving upwards. I will keep checking it when I check my CM.

How long is it open for and what does it do after?

Mine normally open for a couple of days. Then closes quite abruptly after ov when your sm dries up. And generally sinks back down. Mine been weird this month as pg. Stayed initially really high, then wandered down for a bit, then wandered back up Grin. But think it's a better sign for earlier in cycle.
