can you feel it when you ovulate?

I have a strange heavy feeling across where I guess my oavaries are, is this ovulating ? I have had a coil for many years so I haven't felt much period pain or anything and have forgotten what it all feels like.

I have felt cramping pains the last couple of months around the day or day before I have OV-ed. Kind of feels like cramping pains specifically in left or right lower abdomen.

I think its not uncommon but not everyone gets it

Yeah, I get it too. Sometimes worse than period pain. That's how I got PG first time twice and why I've got 2 boys!

I can, yes, and I can identify which side I am ovulating on.

Used to get this before perimenopause - a kind of stitch/cramping in the ovary area. I used to imagine an egg squeezing through my fallopian tube, which used to make it hurt even more!

no thats good if thats what it is because at least I know its all working. The ovulation kits have been saying I wasnt ovulating and I have run out now..pesky things cost the earth!! thanks

Although strangely I only ever seem to feel it on the right hand side.

ah - bishboschone, I do not want to rain on your parade and it well may be that the OPKs are wrong (I have been pg after cycles without a positive OPK), but after I had my girls my body would gear up for ovulation (and I would have the same pain plus dragging feeling I always get) but no period would follow- because I was not ovulating. Anyway, what I am saying is that if you suspect you may not be ovulating, why not get the doctor to check it out? It's a simple blood tests for starters and could put your mind- definitively- at rest?

Alternatively you could try charting and see if it looks like you are ovulating from your temperature? Might be a good way of verifying what you already think.

Ok thanks halibborange, it is my first month without a coil for7 years so I am not sure what is going on. What do I ask for re tests?

It's worrying how little I know about what's going on inside me.

If it is your first month without a coil I'm not sure I'd ask for anything! Did you have the one with the hormones? If so, I guess it is like coming off the pill - you have to give your body time to settle. And then it may take some time to ovulate, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong.

If I were you, I'd give the OPKs a miss (v expensive habit to develop from the off) and instead have lovely, inventive, fun sex every 2-3 days through your cycle. If that doesn't do the trick within, say, 6 months, then start looking at other things. Just remember, nature isn't perfect and even with the best timing it can take a few goes before things come together. So give it time and don't stress.
