So, I'm loosely TTC. Would like to be more active about it but that's a whole other thread.

I keep thinking that I should perhaps stop or vastly cut down my alcohol consumption. I don't go out wild at weekends, but I do regularly drink wine, and over my weekly recommended limit.

But then I think- come on, how many kids are conceived when parents are tipsy and living 'normal' lives? so I should just continue to be myself and live my life etc.

What have you done? Given up booze? Cut down? or is it still bottoms up?

I personally feel TTC is stressful enough without doing it continually sober! :)

Ineedsomesleep · 09/11/2010 22:11

Been pregnant 5 times. Pretty sure I wasn't sober for any of them.

conkertree · 09/11/2010 22:15

I guess if you find it's taking longer than you hoped, cutting down on alcohol could be one thing to try, but until that point, I'd just relax and do what you normally do - 9 months without (or at least with very little) is quite a long Time without adding on the tic time too.

Sorry meant ttc time.

I was teetotal for 6 months whilst TTC. It was ony after a fell off the wagon in grand stlye that I actually concieved.

Was drunk for the first 5 weeks of DS pregnancy, I was drunk when I took a PG test, honestly! I should add, that it was a complete accident and I was on the pill and one night it just occurred to me that I hadn't had a period so I took a PG test - boy did that sober me up quick!! Grin

Oh, he seems like a normal 2 year old and already knows how to say "daddy beer" and "mummy wine" Grin

Anyway, I digress.... now actually TTC-ing, last month did not stop and didn't conceive, this month have practically stopped since SWI-ing although I have also been ill and not much opportunity to go out. I think I would cut down whilst OV-ing/2ww-ing but TTC-ing is hard enough without being too strict on yourself.

Hope this helps!

Didn't mean to upset anyone with the "got pregnant 5 times" line, it wasn't that easy for us only 2 worked out but I'm extremely grateful that 2 did.

I was at a summer party and drank on and off all day before I found out i was pg the first time. No adverse effects but I have to say there was a nagging worry all through my pregnancy about it. So my advice would be if you are ttc and its already on your mind don't go crazy with the drinking as it may play on your conscience later down the line. With ds2 I had been drinking only v small amounts as I was still bf and the pg was free of any stress about alcohol because of that.

Good luck btw!

I went on a bit of a binge the week before I found out I was pregnant (at the time I thought I couldn't possibly be pregnant, because we didn't do it any where near the time I thought I was ovulating - boy did I get it wrong!)

Anyway, it did worry me a bit during the pregnancy, but I also just thought about the number of people who get pregnant while drunk.

DS is almost 2 now and totally fine Grin

Thinking of TTC #2 and have already thought that I'd probably just steer clear of the binges, but still allow myself a glass of wine on a Friday and Saturday night!

I was absolutely paraletic the weekend before I found out I was expecting our DD, and we had been TTC for 6 months. I never stopped drinking whilst TTC, I did during pregnancy because the smell of alcohol made me violently ill!

We are now TTC for a second time, still drinking as normal, but I think after Jan I will cut down as then would have been TTC for a year!!
