Thinking of IUI?

Hello All,

We are on month 15 of ttc#2 and have had private tests that show unexplained secondary sub-fertility. My consultant mentioned that IUI with Clomid would be our next course of action. We haven't made a decision yet whether we will pursue this. We're hoping for a natural BFP.

However, does anyone have any success stories to share? Natural BFPs following unexplained sub/infertility? Or IUI success? I just need a little bit of hope today.

Hello Lychees
We're 3 years into ttc#2, DS about to turn 4 and came along easily enough, one mc 18 months ago at 12 weeks, nothing else despite our best efforts.
Unexplained sub fertility too, we've tried Clomid which I massively over responded to so 2 abandoned cycles. Just had HSG which came back normal so next step consultant recommended was IUI w puregon (injections). However, I'm nearly 39 and clinic results show a live birth rate of 3% which seems so low and not worth the cost so we're going back to see him next week to discuss whether we go straight to IVF - more expensive but better odds.
Sorry just re-read your post and you wanted positive stories which this isn't but we haven't lost hope yet.
I tried acupuncture and reflexology at various times which really helped with mindset, although sadly not with pregnancy.

Diana, nice to hear from you. I am also wondering whether IVF would be a better option. I don't know if my consultant offered us IUI first to help us keep the costs down but it'll be a false economy if it doesn't work. When are you going to be seeing your consultant next? We are not planning on going back until after Xmas now so would be interested to hear what your consultant says about IUI vs IVF.

Hoping for our BFPs soon.

Hi Lychees

We are also struggling with TTC number 2. We tried one course of IUI with Puregon, it wasn't planned but had IVF cycle cancelled due to poor response on the low level of drugs I was put on, so converted to IUI, unfortunately it didn't work. I have to say I wasn't that hopeful either as the clinics success rates for IUI were around 15%. We're now in the dreaded 2WW for our first round of IVF, so will have to see.

If you don't feel ready to try IVF then I think IUI is a good starting point if you have the cash to try it first, it can still be very expensive, I think ours was nearly £1500 with all the drugs !!!! Our IVF cycle has come in at around £4500, but we still don't know whether that;s worked either.

It;'s really difficult resorting to such measures when you've managed to conceive on your own isn't it, it;'s like finally admitting you can't do it on your own, and it;s difficult to give up hope when you've had success before.

Good luck whatever you decide.

helenlouisey, yes, it's diffcult to make the decision as I know we have been able to have DS; nothing's changed and our tests have all come back fine so there is a chance we can get our BFP naturally.

Thanks for sharing your experience though. It's good to know that there are others facing the same dilemmas. Hope your first attempt at IVF has worked. Lots and lots of luck.
