Cycle question

This may be a dim question so please bear with me. I conceived DS, now 15 months incredibly easily - I was on the pill for 12 years and was pregnant within a month of coming off it. Hence no TTC experience.

We are now thinking about TTC no. 2 and I have been trying to get to grips with my cycle. I was never particularly regular, even before I went on the pill. Since starting to chart my cycle I have had a 32 day cycle and a 38 day cycle. I used OPKs and had a positive on day 16 - period came on day 38. I was therefore expecting a positive OPK around the same time. It is now day 20 and still negative OPKs.

Which is more likely? That I have missed the surge, or that I am going to ovulate around day 24 - 14 days before anticipated period.

Any help appreciated!

I used OPK's when I was trying for no.2 and I never saw a surge and got pg anyway. You could have just missed it.

Thanks for your reply myprob - I miscalculated and I was actually on day 19, on Monday. I got a positive OPK on Thursday, so day 22. I guess my cycle isn't completely regular.

Hi kungfupanda,

Bear in mind that ovulation can be delayed by stresses on the body like travel, illness, and exercise. Were you doing/suffering from any of these things on day 16? Its common for your day of ovulation to fluctuate a bit without there necessarily being a problem.

If you havent discovered it already, I would really recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, there is a great "troubleshooting" section in the back that is great for answering these kinds of questions.
