what is everyone doing to maximise chances of BFP? since this is my first cycle of really trying a bit lost- using the ovulation calculators my most fertile period is from 4th-8th nov- but from what i've read ovulation can be unpredictable so we've been trying every 2 days from end of last period and in most fertile period maybe we'll try every day if it is possible-both really busy jobs with long hours so not sure how viable that is lol. but also heard that everyday not always best option as sperm count may be 2 low. other option i guess is the ovulation calculators but how useful have people found them? You don't realise how complicated this TTC stuff is until you really want to have kids!! want to feel that every month we try we're giving it our best shot lol.

BabsH · 03/11/2010 07:03

Morning, just lots of sex really and dont worry too much about making a baby, just have loads of nooky!!!

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 03/11/2010 07:33

ddas I've found whenever I've got pregnant, it's always been when I'm not planning/ trying for it. You sond like you've got everything covered but I'd agree with BabsH, just have lots of fun with your OH.

passthechocs · 03/11/2010 19:48

Would agree with BabsH as well - lots of SWI required.

When we were TTC DC#1 I went to see the Dr to get advice on anything we should/shouldn't do. She all but laughed me out of the room - said 16 yr olds get pregnant all the time, just go home, have lots of SWI and take folic. Was a bit Shock and Blush tbo!

The only decent advise she gave me was, to put it politely (and she was very frank) to 'front load' - ie have SWI in the days leading up to ovulation as well as during AND after to make sure there are loads of swimmers in there. Working out ovulation is the tricky bit... I reckon I need to SWI regularly from 1 wk after AF has finished, not stopping until 1 wk before AF is due, to make sure I catch it. Worked quickly with DS1 and DS2 - seems to be a little longer this time around.

kat2504 do you have any gin tonic as well?

sillybillymummy · 03/11/2010 21:54

Still sulking, but can i hop on?

lindy100 · 04/11/2010 07:43

Hi, can I join too, please?

ttc#3, cycle 1 ucl 28-30 not sure what CD is Blush

Am currently waiting for AF.

I already have an August baby, 15 months, conceived on pretty much the first try, so have high hopes this time. Also I'm a teacher so August/Sept would fit perfectly with my plans!

I had no idea about timings with DD, so we were lucky; this time I intend to work out when would be the best days to conceive and go for it as much as possible, like passhte chocs said, as I really want to get it first time!

I think DH is going to feel a bit used though - since DD was born we haven't BD as much as before. Oh well Wink

At school currently so no time to read all posts right now, but love being part of this kind of community.

Hi all, Can I join?? I've just fallen off the July bus :(

I've updated the stats list as best I can and added the other newcomers. Lindy CD is cycle day, so the first day of proper bleeding (not spotting) is CD1.

Hi all,

I sadly took a tumble off the July Bus having lost the BFP at 5 weeks. A few bumps and bruises but on the mend! Can I hop on with you guys? I've added myself at the bottom. Let's hope August is our month!

passthechocs · 04/11/2010 13:37

Hello to everyone joining - sorry to hear about falls from the july bus.

getdown - particularly sorry to hear that you lost your BFP. Hope this month proves to be a 'sticky' one.

lindy - I do typos all the time so don't worry!

Am waiting for AF to arrive so can get on with TTC this month - due today so feeling rather cranky.

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 04/11/2010 13:39

thanks for that lindy100, was a bit embarrassed to ask myself Blush. I'm CD16 with fingers crossed.

lindy100 · 04/11/2010 13:41

You can rely on me to ask the embarrassing stuff!

Ironically, am about to start teaching Year 10s Sex education for the first time - I'm pretty unembarrassable but dread being asked something about sex I don't know.

Apparently it's popular here to ask teachers what rimming is. Lukcily I know that one...

thanks guys, it's nice to be welcomed Smile

The MC was an awful shock, I naively thought it wouldn't happen to me.

Hopefully this month will be happier.....

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 04/11/2010 13:58

Sorry to here about your mc getdownyouwillfall i always thought 'not me' and when it did it turns out that so many people around me knew, experienced and understood what was going on and gave so much support. I hope that you've got a great backing team lifting you up right now.

lindy100 that sounds like my unltimate nightmare...well, except the one with the spiders..

GetDownYouWillFall · 04/11/2010 13:59

thanks queenofthecapitalwasteland sorry it happened to you too, it really sucks Sad

It is surprisingly common though. It's just the not knowing why that I find so hard.

passthechocs · 04/11/2010 14:07

getdown I don't think its naive - I haven't gone into either of my last pregnancies or TTC this time expecting to MC. Obviously I am aware that the odds, especially in the first few weeks, aren't always great (and getting worse now am older), but its something I put out of my mind. Have never dared even read one of the MC related threads - slightly irrational I know!

GetDownYouWillFall · 04/11/2010 14:09

I suppose I stupidly thought that because I am 30 that I was immune, but actually it can happen at any age. I think I will definitely be more cautious about who I tell next time - I'd told a few friends when I first found out, and "un-telling" them was really hard

lindy100 · 04/11/2010 17:59

getdown, I have two friends, both with 13 month olds, who have MC recently, each with their second. Both were shocked as no problems last time.

I have not worried about telling anyone (except work) that we are about to start ttc, as it was so easy the last time - I realise this might be a mistake, as it is so easy to assume everything will be ok when it isn't.

Sorry to hear about your MCs.

BabsH · 04/11/2010 18:34

Evening all, can I join too, I've been posting already but best make it formal....

GetDownYouWillFall sorry to hear about your MC- fingers crossed this month is the lucky one for lots of us and that the beans stay put :)!!

MC is unfortunately suprisingly common and guess that's why they recommend you don't tell anyone till after your 12 wk scan-easier said than done though-not sure if i'd be able to keep it secret for that long lol!!!
