I am hoping there are a few Clomid experts out there who might be able to help me with my current predicament.

I have been waiting a year for fertility treatment since a miscarriage last October left me infertile. I've finally got to the month where I can start Clomid (and have the tablets), but am having THE most bizarre cycle ever. Due to low progesterone, I generally have a bit of spotting before AF kicks in for real. However, I usually always experience some bright red blood loss even when the flow is light - and AF always gets going properly after a couple of days at the very most. I'm not regular as clockwork, but I can generally expect AF every 28 - 31 days. This cycle nothing happened until day 33. I thought AF had arrived but there was never anything more than very slight dark brown, stringy spotting (sorry TMI, I know, but it's the only way I can describe it Blush). I'm now on cd36 and have experienced this spotting for 4 days. Occasionally, it's pink and watery, but never red. There's no flow. I've never needed more than a pantyliner and the only time it's ever come close to looking like AF is just after I've been to the bathroom. However, it soon stops again afterwards. Again sorry for TMI!

I'm supposed to take Clomid from day 2 to 6, but I'm at a total loss as to where to start counting from. My Consultant told me to treat day 2 of spotting as cd2 since AF always eventually gets going, but this is so unlike a period that I decided against it. I'm now worried that I've missed the opportunity this month. I did wonder if, by some miracle, this was implantation bleeding. I've already done 2 negative HPTs, but a very similar thing happened when I was pg with my DS and I didn't get a positive until nearly 2 weeks after the spotting. I'm going out of my mind with this. I do think the spotting is maybe too significant for implantation, but wondered if taking Clomid at this point could cause problems if I am actually pregnant? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi broken, I completely understand your worries. I had 6 months of clomid+had trouble indicating day 1 due to spotting. However, my gynae consultant told me to wait until I had 1 day of full red flow until counting it as af. If I was you I def wouldnt take the clomid until u bleed properly, just in case. I know its hard and frustrating when you want something so badly and things like this keep happening. I think clomid can cause defects if u take it when pregnant (i googled when I was in your situation). Maybe there is hope if u have a history of late bfps? I would def wait until prop bleeding. Sorry I know this doesnt help much!

Actually it really does help. You've just confirmed what I thought and given me some well needed reassurance. Thank you. The wait is agonising though isn't it? I'd almost feel relieved to have a normal period!

Hey Brokenbits (I really hope you're not referring to your bits in your name! Not very positive!)

I will be starting clomid in a couple of weeks but have always wondered the same thing. I have always spotted for about 2-3 days and then AF gets going. This cycle I've been dibbing and dabbing around for 6 days now. Wonder what's going on!

Anyway, I would agree with AuntFlosAssassin (amazing name!) to wait until you know when your period has started proper. Although it seems like it'll never arrive, you know that (unless you're pg) it will, just like it always does! Maybe got some stage fright this month - since you actually want it to start!

Good luck

Hi Miffles. No I don't suppose my name is very positive but, in all honesty, the last couple of years haven't been all that positive and I am clearly quite broken! I promise I have a sunnier disposition than my name would suggest! Grin

The very best of luck to you with the Clomid. I've fought to get it for a year and now I can't use it because my body won't bloody well comply. I must have been very bad in a former life! I'm glad it's not just me who has problems with spotting. Obviously I don't wish this on anyone. It's just nice to know I'm not alone. My biggest problem right now is trying to recognise AF for what it is as this is by far and away the weirdest, lightest period I've ever had if that is what it is! I just hope I'm not missing my chance by waiting. It's a right old saga isn't it?

You're certainly not alone - that is the beauty of MN! I kind of use a guage as to whether I need a tampon...the last 6 days a pantyliner wouldn't even have got messed up. But it was a bit heavier today, so thought I wouldn't risk it, so went with the tampon at work. Now home, it's eased up again so going without. If later on it were to get flow at all, I reckon I'd count today as CD1.

Since you're not meant to start clomid til CD2, I think you can decide on a day by day basis whether the day you've had counts as day 1. If so, then great, tomorrow is day 2. But if not, keep waiting. To be honest, even if you do miss this month, it is probably better to do that and keep calm and sane and start next cycle. You might even be pregnant now - crazier things have happened! I might not be saying the same thing this time in 2 weeks, when I'm waiting to start mine!!
