Postive pregnancy test followed by a negative - any ideas?

Hi there

So I got a BFP last Friday, and rather stupidly decided to do another pregnancy test this morning, and to my horror it came out as negative.
I think I still feel pg, my boobs are definitely still growing etc, but now I'm really depressed as have no idea what's going on?
I've got a doctor's app in a couple of days, but now I'm wondering whether there's any point.

Any advice, explanations would help - I feel like crying!

What brand were they? Was one a cheapie and one high tech?

Binkybell · 15/10/2010 12:26

No, sadly both high tech and the same brand!

Sounds like it may be a chemical pregnancy? hope it's not tho...

Did you test after AF due? did you use FMU?

Would still go to see GP, and it isn't over till AF shows up, and hopefully she will stay away! good luck x

sending((((hugs))))

Warmseabreeze · 15/10/2010 12:43

At 7 weeks a digi one told me "not pregnant" I was devasted! Quickly sent DH to tesco for more and other brand tests, thankfully tesco own brand pregnancy line appeared even before the control, and the digi "pregnant 3+" . Hopefully u just have a defective test xx

Binkybell · 15/10/2010 12:44

First test was the day after AF due. Second test was done mid morning, had had quite a bit to drink - would that make a difference?

What's a chemical pregnancy?

Thanks Ljg72 - need them!

Chemical is when you start to produce pregnancy hormones, but embryo fails to implant and gets shed in af.

My gp said it's really common and says not to test early for that reason, and to test if you are a week or so late! WHATEVER!!! who does that!.

Try not to panic and take another test...as you say you have symptoms and thats a good sign...not sure if fluids would make a difference at this stage in your cycle?...as hcg should increase every 48/72 hours.

Fingers crossed hun X

marriednotdead · 15/10/2010 12:57

Crossing fingers tightly for you.
Don't want to say more.

fedupttcnosuccess · 15/10/2010 13:04

Binkybell: try not to worry. FX here for you too. xxx

fedupttcnosuccess · 15/10/2010 13:06

DO take another test though...just to rule out the faulty one- so I've just been too by sil: who has experience of these things apparently! x

Ariesgirl · 15/10/2010 13:09

Drinking a lot makes your wee a lot less concentrated I think so you should dehydrate a bit!

Binkybell · 15/10/2010 13:11

Thanks everyone. This is properly my first time, so I'm completely new to all of this. I had no idea how stressful and worrying a process it would be.

I'm in the same situation, keep me posted, keeping my fingers crossed for us both. :)

rubbersoul · 15/10/2010 16:21

I had the same with first a positve result and then negative a couple of days after (with clearblue digital) and sadly I had a chemical pregnancy Sad However, my symptoms had stopped, which is why I tested, and yours haven't, which is surely a good sign?

Was it a digital one you took? I am keeping everything crossed for you x

Binkybell · 15/10/2010 16:27

Thanks rubbersoul
They were both clearblue digital so exactly the same as your situation. I know this might sound stupid, but I'm assuming AF would arrive to let me know that it was all over right? Would the fact it hasn't arrived suggest that maybe I still am?

Am trying to stay positive, it's tough though.
Hugs and lots of postive thinking to you too looploupgarou. Smile

When it happened to me Binkybell I had the positive on the saturday, a negative on the tuesday and I started bleeding tuesday night Sad I had felt sick, sore boobs etc until tuesday when I woke up and felt 'normal', which is when I took the other digital test.

I would suggest doing a non digital test, if I were you. It could have been faulty- with a line test you can judge it for yourself.

I really hope it is ok- please keep us updated on how you're doing

LoopyLoupGarou · 16/10/2010 10:03

I got a positive digital test this morning! :) (after very faint line on 1st response, then negative on digital yesterday).

Good luck! :)

Binkybell · 16/10/2010 13:19

That is FANTASTIC news loopyloupgarou! Really happy for you. Still haven't done another test - too scared! But AF hasn't arrived and I'm still kinds feeling pg, so just going to live in denial for a bit. Smile

AF arrived this morning!
Am I right in thinking I can now just treat it as a normal one and start ttc this month?
Sad

ljg72 · 17/10/2010 10:04

So sorry hun Sad really feel for you...

And yes treat this as day one of your cycle, may be worth ordering some cheapie ovulation sticks from Ebay as you may not ovulate this month, or it may be not be on your usual day (I never ov after chemical or mc) just so you know were your up to , and you can give it your best shot (if that makes sense??).

Take care of yourself, and I would go and see your GP as well, sending hugs XX

Binkybell · 17/10/2010 10:32

Thanks Ljg72 - there have been tears shed! Just really pleased that I didn't go and tell loads of people, as I was so excited when I first got the BFP.
It's really hard not to feel very sorry for myself though!
Big hugs to you, and thank you so much for the advice, am going to keep my doctor's app. xxx

So sorry BB. Chill out with a big bar of choccy and see what happens next month.
I lost #2 @ 8 weeks but DS was conceived 4 months later.

LoopyLoupGarou · 17/10/2010 14:31

Oh, so sorry. :(

Take care, look after yourself. I'm sure it will happen soon. :)

Binkybell · 17/10/2010 16:32

Thanks guys - I can't tell you how lovely it is to have people out there to confide in. The hormones are raging and I just literally want to burst into tears at a moments notice.
It's comforting to know there are others out there who understand.
Big hugs to all, and chocolate sounds like a good idea. xxx
