Anyone tried acupuncture?

I've decided to give it a try (having heard of lots of positives if ttc). I'm off for my first appointment this evening.

Anyone else tried it and willing to share their experiences? (I'm also a bit of a wimp and want to know if it will hurt?!)

I found it didn't hurt, though a couple of the needles smarted a little.

I did it and coincidentally got pregnant that month. I don't know whether it worked or not, perhaps I just believed in it and that tipped the balance. Perhaps I just subconsciously needed to 'do' something to make it work. Anyway, she's 4. Didn't use it for DS though, he just showed up anyway.

oh yes and yes it did hurt. Not much mind you.

I've been concidering trying accupuncture, but wouldnt know where to start, how much it costs etc.

It cost me £40 a session (which took 45 minutes, first one was longer).

Mine was linked to the GP practice (they have private therapists working there too.) But there is an acupuncture council which lists them by area too.

Well, I survived!

It was a bit weird and I'm not sure if I 'enjoyed' it or not. A couple of the needles felt uncomfortable and I have a few tiny 'dots' where some of them were.

I paid £40 for the session and they were trying to get me to sign-up for a course, which I'm not sure about just yet.

Wmmc - how long /. frequently did you have it for?

Once before I got pregnant then for three weeks at the start of the pregnancy to help with the morning sickness.

You do know that there is absolutely no scientific or clinical evidence that it will help... don't you?

nocake - I know it's not absolute, although I have seen a WHO report which suggested there might be something in it. The guy I saw last night was talking about using it to help de-stress, so I'm not expecting a magic bullet.

Just thought it was worth trying. Thinking about it today I don't think I'll be committing to the 'once a week for 3 months' they suggested without evidence that it will have some benefit.

nocake - I don't believe in it either. Still whatever you do believe in seems to work. You can worship a giant mushroom if you think it'll help and it'll probably still improve your odds

For me it was last chance saloon and we were pretty much giving up anyway.

JJH I am TTC. I started acu in July. One session a week (lasts approx 45 mins). I find it very relaxing. Warm quiet room. Chinese herbalist/doctor. approx £35 per session. Varies on how many you book in advance. I was sceptical too at first. I am preapred to carry on with acu for as long as I find it relaxes me. The acu is generally believed to improve your blood circulation especially if like me you've had surgery in the past under general anaesthetic, as it slows down the blood flow and some people's circulation doesn't recover fully. The chinese call it stagnant blood or sticky blood. My fertility clinic doctor has hinted that some women have sticky blood (that isn't thin)and might be one factor stopping me conceiving/stopping the implantation in IVF. I'm thinking about trying this too...anything that relaxes you has to be good!
