Has anyone ovulated a week before their period arrived?!

Hi,

I am so confused! On the Friday/Saturday I had lots of EWCM, then on the Monday I had a very strong positive with my Clearblue OPK. The following Tuesday I started spotting, which has continued throughout the week.

I am so confused as I'm worried that this may not be a good sign if there is only a week between ovulating and my period.

This will now be 4 months TTC and I have started using the Clearblue fertility monitor this month so fingers crossed, it will give me a more accurate picture.

Also, last months period didn't really come as it was 2 weeks of heavy and light spotting, and it looks like the same thing is happening again this month. Looking at my dates, the spotting started roughly when my period was due.

DH is telling me to stop worrying, its early days and the monitor should make things clearer to us, but I just wanted to know if anyone else was/has experienced something like this.

xx

If you are spotting between periods the cause should be determined by a GP. It is often not serious but spotting should always be checked out medically.

I would not use the OPK as these can cause more undue worry and stress to you and you as a couple. You do not really need to use such things.

I'm curious too emmiegirl as have something going on right now which feels and looks like ovulation, but should be due my period in about three days! Unless my cycle has gone totally crazy. Have been TTC for 2 cycles now and it's hard not to get my hopes up that it's something else ...

Maybe some of us do just ovulate really late in the cycle? Is that possible? Wish I knew more!

Yes ovulation times vary - that's why we have kits. I used to ovulate late, and never read or heard anything to suggest that might be a problem with TTC- but it's handy to know in pregnancy in order to have more accurate dates and resist pressure for an inappropriate induction when you're not really overdue.

I ovulate late in my cycle quite often. I had no idea about luteal phases and the effect of progesterone levels on pregnancy until I suffered 2 early miscarriages (also known as chemical pregnancy) in the last 2 months.

Now that I've had another BFP I'm getting myself down to the Drs tomorrow to get checked out because I can't handle losing another one if there is something that can be done.

So I suggest you also get yourself checked out. It maybe nothing or it maybe a luteal phase defect which can be treated, or something else altogether! I also suggest a vitamin B6 supplement as this helps boost the bodies abilitity to manufacture progesterone. From what I've read don't bother with herbal supplements.

Good luck and I hope you get some firm answers soon (go to the Dr!) Grin
