hi I am new to the site but wondered if someone could advise the best place for me to start regarding asking questions regarding stimulated iui?

Hi Pollalolla

Sorry for being stupid but not sure exactly what you mean? Do you mean with regards as to what you should ask your consultant or GP or do you have questions you'd like other mumsnetters to answer?

With either I'd just post a list of here and am sure someone will be able to help. I've done one cycle of medicated IUI (due to IVF cycle being cancelled) so if I can help at all just shout :)

hi there thanks so much for replying to me, you probably can help if you have a minute. started iui injectables last week, 75mg of menopur daily, I am 40 years old, i had my scan yesterday on day 10 and had 5 follicles, biggest 19mm, smallest 14mm, they checked my oestrogen levels too to see how many eggs likely to be in there and said it was too high, at 3,400 and they would have to abandon the treatment. they didn't offer me the trigger, instead they said i had to keep injecting buserelin for 2-3 weeks until my period arrived. i just wondered if anyone else had experience of this and what exactly will the buserelin be doing over the next few weeks? seems odd injecting something that is a suppressant when all i want to do is get my cycle back to normal so that i can start again from scratch on a lower doseage next month!

how did you find your first medicated cycle go for you?

thanks for your help

Hi Pollalolla, our first cycle wasn;t successful unfortunately, but I really wasn't expecting it to, we have tubal issues so IUI was very unlikely to work, but after spending all that money on the drugs we gave IUI a go. I had opposite problem to you, I wasn't given enough of the drugs so was advised to abandon cycle of IVF and start again on higher dose ( I had been put on very lose dose due to high AMH)

Am really sorry but not sure about why they have kept you on buserelin and not given you the trigger injection. It does seem odd. Maybe it was because you were at high risk of OHSS? That would be my guess. Is there a nurse or Dr you could call at your clinic and say that at the time you were obvious upset from the cycle being cancelled and found it hard to take everything in, and now you have some questions, maybe someone at your clinic would be able to help?

Sorry I haven't been able to help much and good luck with your next cycle.

Hi there
Thanks for taking time to respond to me, sorry your cycle didn't work, I didn't realise that half the battle or certainly the initial battle with iui would be finding the right dosage! If they get it wrong again next month then thats two months I've wasted and it feels like going backwards, oh well. I took our advice and called the nurse again and she said that the reasons to keep taking the buserelin are three fold, prevents cysts from forming where the follicles have been, regulates your period and I think more importantly prevents me from going off naturally and not heeding their warnings about getting pregnant and running the risk of multiple births. I got a 2nd opinion from a consultant I'd met before at The Bridge too and he said the same thing, so feel i am in safe hands and will just look forward to the next cycle i guess.
What are your plans now, are you in the early stages of IVF with higher dose? I was going to give IUI a shot for 3 months maximum then try and persuade my partner to go down the IVF route (he is, to put it mildly, reluctant). Good luck your end.
