Hi,

We were talking about this a lot on the charting thread and thought it would be good to start a separate thread.

There's about 3 of us at the moment but please do join us too if you are TTC with this added probem.

My results were 9.07 and then a few weeks later 5.5. I'm due another blood test in 5 weeks and hopefully my GP should be starting me on Thyroxin soon.

Quite worried cos the NHS guidelines say your numbers should be a lot lower when pregnant. still i haven't got that BFP yet so I guess I'll worry then.

ladygonegaga and Bessie26 - hurry up and join me here Grin.

You'll have to give some womanly charms lessons! I couldn't be arsed frankly. I still think the men get the very un-raw end of this particular stick! Thanks for advice SSD. I THINK I'm taking it ok (tho v early in morning sometimes eg 4) Further googling has suggested to me that some docs use basal temp as a way to tell if you're on the right dose of thyroxine yet. Might show chart to doc after a month. How is everyone else doing? I'm very grateful to have this thread to offload my mc/ttc/thyroid moans when there's no-one else who understands!

bessie26 · 14/11/2010 13:14

iggy I'm not talking about anything complicated, just stuff like wandering around in undies or not wearing my PJs in bed (perhaps DH is just easy to please?!) By the time I got to O DH had usually twigged what was going on, but didn't care too much Wink
RE the cold temps, mine were always on the low side too, but as long as they go up at the end of the month ( when you O) I don't think it really matters
I think you have to do temp orally or vaginally for it to be accurate(?) my oral temps used to wobble around alot so I started taking it vaginally & found the temps to be much more stable (think I sometimes sleep with my mouth open)

LadyGoneGaga · 15/11/2010 10:53

BFP this morning Grin. Sh*tting myself and excited in equal measure. Wish me luck ladies.

xxxx

iggiii · 15/11/2010 13:13

Oh best of luck! Big congratulations, that's lovely news!

hippychick66 · 15/11/2010 13:39

lady big squeeze from Hippy ((()))

A BFP after an MC is always scary and it's hard to really let yourself get excited. But for now you, my dear, are up the duff Grin.

Try to be positive but guard your heart just a little bit.

really pleased for you. Keep an eye on your thyroid levels, matey. XX mwah mwah.

Thansk Hipp and Iggii. Hopefully will be ok Thyroid wise. After the mc I asked them to raise my dose which they did - now on 125mcg as Doctor agreed I would need it when I got pregnant again Grin. Going to go back in and get an appointment for blood test this week hopefully.

Going to also get a session in with my acupuncture lady as that meant to be helpful to support early pregnancy.

No alcohol, no caffeine, no fun. And a whole lot of sitting down resting. DP is gonna love me!

Beesok · 15/11/2010 19:09

Oh lady that's fantastic!!! Congrats! Keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you!!!

Louin · 15/11/2010 20:33

Well done Lady so pleased for you x

janjan30 · 15/11/2010 21:21

I was diagnosed with an over active thyroid when I was 16. I had a big fat goiter and everything. This was quickly sorted with thyroxine and carbimisole (sorry think it may be spelt wrong) and it went normal again.
After just a year I hadn't been for my check ups and it had come back with avengence. So this time they gave me an alternative, either keep with the tablets which aren't going to help. Have radioactive treatment which they didn't want to do because of my age 19. Or to have my Thyroid removed. I chose the latter.
It was removed and they took out my para thyroid too. (Which I only found out 5 years later). I did feel better, but I am now on more tablets than I was before the operation.
My fertility specialist hasn't mentioned any problems with the under active thyroid and not being able to conceive.
All of my tests have come back fine and I have just finished 6 months of clomid. (the end of the last month was heart breaking :()
I have been ttc for 5 years.
I know a few women that have got thyroid problems when pregnant and I know that you need to keep an eye on it during but haven't heard any problems with it.

good luck to all of you.

janjan30 · 15/11/2010 21:23

made up congratulations. Be happy and be healthy. X

Huge congrats ladyggg!!! Grin

Louin · 17/11/2010 07:51

Morning ladies - please help me out :) my temps have been up since ov and this morn it dipped but not below my coverline. Now I think AF is gonna rear her ugly being and its made me feel crap but then i read it could be an implantation dip so am a bit confused. Also, my boobs are really tender so am putting that down to AF arriving too

tinky19 · 17/11/2010 13:38

Has anyone else thyroiditis? I've got it. Sad
I'm on 50mg of thyroxine and having my levels checked again tomorrow.

bessie26 · 17/11/2010 20:05

louin - As this is your first cycle charting I'm afraid you're going to have to wait & see what the dip means! is AF due? How many days has it been since O? Do you know how long your luteal phase usually is? Do you plot your chart on FF? you should be able to see here that temp dips aren't always the bad news you think they might be!

hello janjan - 5 years, is a very long time Sad I think any problems to do with TTC are to do with people with undiagnosed thyroid problems rather than those of us who are dosed up. What are your levels?

and hi tinky - I have never even heard of thyroiditis before - is it why you are on 50mcg or is it a complication of your under-active thyroid?

super - ahhh.. it must have been lovely to see that little heart flashing on the screen! I'm now 18wks and went to see the midwife yesterday just so I could hear the heartbeat again Grin

lady do your cheeks hurt from grinning yet? GrinGrin

LadyGoneGaga · 17/11/2010 20:27

Bit paranoid, Bess. Can't stop weeing on things. Twice today. An IC and a CBdigi!

iggiii · 17/11/2010 20:54

Really glad to hear that Supersunny, what a relief. Grin
OPK positive today so will be interested to compare it to my temperature tomorrow.

First time I got pg I didn't have to do all this tomfoolery!

bessie26 · 17/11/2010 21:33

iggi a +OPK & you are online? - GET ON WITH IT!

lady I don't think the paranoia ever goes, but i does get better! - the constant MS certainly helped me feel better!

tinky19 · 18/11/2010 10:41

bessie I think it causes an underactive thyroid. Body attacking thyroid gland. Is 50mg a little/ normal or a lot?

LadyGoneGaga · 18/11/2010 13:46

50mg quite a low dose, tinky. It was what they started me off on and I now take 125. Was at 150 at my peak last time pregnant! I have the antobodies too but never heard it called Thyroiditis. Apparently is most common form of thyroid issues though.

I got my bloods redone on Monday. Going to see what they say but want to speak to Doctor. Is TSH under 2 still recommended level for early preg? What about free T3/T4? I read somewhere on net that your dosage should be increased by 30-50% immediately? anyone have any more info?

A massive 4 weeks today. Time passing very slowly. Grin

bessie26 · 18/11/2010 22:54

ladyggg my consultant told me that ideally TSH should be around 2-3, but as long as it's under 5 it's fine. No idea about T4 - will be interesting to hear what your people say!

tinky i have no idea what a "normal" dose is, but they started me on 25mcg & then increased my dose to 50mcg. The "antibodies" thing is yet another thing I know nothing about (GP said mine were fine so I've never read up on it)

hippy how are you getting on with your pills? Feeling a bit perkier?

When they started me on 25mcg I felt an improvement in my tiredness levels within days, but when they upped it to 50mcg it's taken a couple of weeks to have an effect. I feel like I can be bothered to do things again, which is great coz the house is in a right state due to me spending most of this year napping!

iggiii · 19/11/2010 13:19

Hi guys. My charting exploits have led to me completely freaking myself out. OPK positive on Wednesday, so ovulation either Wed or Thurs, I assumed. However, no significant change in temperature even this morning. Worrying this means I don't ovulate, despite the LH surge the OPKs detect.Sad This would be very mad news wouldn't it, rolling onto the menopause perhaps.
Googling in case there is another explanation!

Regarding thyroxine, I think increasing dose by 25mg is very standard, I think they are cautious to ever up it by more than that. In case you swing too far the other way I suppose.

LadyGoneGaga · 19/11/2010 13:28

Iggii, you may ovulate today and still be "normal". Or you may exhibit a low rise pattern, which would still be normal but is just less easy to determine date of ovulation as it creeps up gradually rather thabn having a big, significant looking shift. You need a few more days data to confirm.

iggiii · 19/11/2010 13:31

Thank you LGG. (Not looking forward to telling DH we need to continue with SWI!)
Hope you're feeling well today.
